Ten of the melody lines extend briefly into third position. The accompanying part remains in first position. but has some difficult passagework and chords. Simplified accompaniments have also been included for the more difficult ones. Viola students can use this book along with violin students to play violin/viola duets, as the musical selections are in the same key. Each piece includes an historical introduction. This is a new approach to holiday music making.

It?s probably all you?ll ever need for thanksgivingand harvest festivals and the arrangements can be used for virtually anycombination of stringed instruments. This is an essential title for any stringlibrary or for any string ensembles that are called upon to provide music forschools, Thanksgiving events or churches.

Thearrangements can be used with string quartet, string quintet or string ensembleor performed as solo pieces. There?s also an optional but useful simplifiedkeyboard part intended for less experienced keyboard players. The piano parttoo means that you can use the arrangements as solos, duets or trios. Thesearrangements are intended either as stand-alone pieces that could be used asinterludes in a service, or they could be used to accompany solo, choral orcongregational singing. To make the music accessible to less experienced stringplayers, the range of the notes has been kept fairly low so that many of thearrangements can be played in first position. However, to produce a brighterand richer sound, a few of the more experienced violinists could play an octavehigher. "Thanksgiving" is a piece composed in Paul's minimalistic piano style. ?When composing the music for this particular piece, I thought of my family and other friends who are missing loved ones during one of the most beautiful holidays in America," explains Cardall. "Thanksgiving is a time to reflect on all our blessings. Gratitude produces humility, which I believe is strength under control. Grief certainly brings us to our knees. When my younger brother died while I was in the midst of heart failure and waiting for a heart transplant, a family member went to inform our grandmother. They found her on her knees thanking God for the gift and blessing of knowing her grandson. In that spirit, my composition Thanksgiving is a reflection of ironies in life and those we are grateful for knowing, though they are gone.?.

The 11 songs in this collection of mixed-level piano duets (for 1 piano, 4 hands) are arranged for a beginning student to play the PRIMO while the teacher, parent, or an intermediate student plays the SECONDO. All notes in the PRIMO are played singly with the hands in one position centered around middle C and then played one octave higher.

Each song is presented in two formats: on a grand staff (a combined score with both piano parts on each page) plus the alternate format with the PRIMO and SECONDO on separate pages.

Most of the songs are written in the key of C major and do not require using flats or sharps. However, there are a few songs in the key of G major (1 sharp) or F major (1 flat). These songs provide practice playing notes on the black keys (either an F-sharp for the key of G major or a B-flat for the key of F major).

These fun-to-learn arrangements are a welcome addition to the piano repertoire for beginning students and suitable for recitals or just some family fun around the piano during the holiday season.
