Music for a Darkened Theatre is a piece for solo F horn accompanied by 2 metronomes and body percussion which I wrote for the 2020 International Horn Society Composition Contest in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Exploring the widespread sense of the world falling apart which struck as the pandemic first hit the planet and detailing the emotional journey of attempting to triumph and persevere in spite of the challenges brought on by the virus, the piece is structured as three separate musical scenes which each depict various emotions relating to the COVID issue. This one is a unique piece for me, and I hope you enjoy it!

Published by Ben Ledochowski (A0.1023642). Cooking with Sugar was written for the award-winning Canadian classical piano duet Piano Pinnacle. Designed to be played by two classical pianists on one instrument, this piano four-hands work is intended to help introduce classical pianists to jazz playing, featuring several elements of traditional early 20th-century jazz piano music which have been strictly notated and taken out of their typically improvisatory context to help bridge the gap between classical and jazz playing. The work's title is inspired by the jazz idiom put some sugar on that (meaning liven the music up a bit), and depicts a sugar rush followed by an eventual sugar crash. Enjoy!

Back in 2019, my composition professor of the time challenged my composition class to write contrapuntal violin duets in which each line maintained as much clarity as possible. To add an extra layer of challenge to the task, I challenged myself to try to create a fun and interesting piece incorporating as few additional techniques as possible (such as double stops, special effects, etc.), focusing almost exclusively on creating interesting, unadorned single lines in the two parts. This piece, based on the concept of old record players skipping between different sections of a record, was the result. Enjoy!

Flying Kites is a piece that had its start back in the summer of 2019, the summer I left my home and moved across the country for my first year college. The original version was a sort of goodbye letter to my best friend, as well as a thank you to him for helping make me the person I am now. Since then, the piece has gone through several rewrites and evolutions to reach its current form, and I'm more prioud of it now than ever. It's also helped me get accepted into the composition programs at two different universities by being a part of my auditions to both schools and remains to this day my most popular composition, so I figured I should do it justice by uploading it here since more than 2 years have passed since its inception. Inspired by the music of medieval community brass bands, this short piece is a fun folk-like dance in which each of the 5 instruments' lines are viewed as separate and equally important melodies. The Dreaming Sea was my first paid composition commission, a piece I wrote in April 2020. For the composition commission, my author friend Sterling Wisniewski requested me to score a short story of his, with the score I provided being expected to tell the story of the words through music and accompany original artwork. His short story is included as follows:A cardboard boat sifts the surface of the sea. A little girl,eyes closed, arms wide and crowned with a paper hat, stands at the front of the deck. Unsinkable - that's what she was. Her imagination bounced the boat on the tension of theworld, almost like it wasn't there. Her eyes were closed, yet she saw everything. On shore, a crowd of dirty sailors went about their work. Nasty mouths swore and harsh fists carried their cargo to their strong, dirty boat. A boy, no taller than a barrel, was in the midst of the buff shoulders and fit forearms. He peaked between the muscle mountains.He saw her. Eyes closed and arms wide, sailing away from the Sun and into the appearing Moon. The wind flapped her hair like the sail of a boat. The boy pried between the men and ran to the end of the dock, stuck his flat hand over his forehead to see. The boy could've sworn that she saw him. He could've sworn the boat swooped in a foot from his face. He could've sworn he heard her giggle. If anything, he thought he knew she saw him.The boy's father, the largest of all the men, wearing a real sailor's hat, gripped the boy's shoulder, spun him away from view of the cardboard boat, and without a word dragged him to the solid wooden ship in front of them. The robust crew pulled ropes and pushed out to set sail towards the setting Sun in the west.The boy soon slipped out of his father's grip and ran to the edge of the boat. Standing on his tiptoes, he hovered his eyes over the dock. There she was - eyes closed and arms wide, the wind flowing through her hair while her cardboard boat skipped the seas like a stone. he could've sworn she was thinking about him. he could've sworn he would see her again. Inspired by my favorite of Saturn's moons, the piece depicts the dark, lonely, and otherworldly atmosphere of outer space and the idea of sending manned missions to other planets. This work is a major departure from my usual style, but I hope you enjoy it nonetheless! .

Agnes Woolworth's Rooftop Flower Garden was composed in November of 2019 as my first major work for strings and the culmination of my first year of studies as a music composition major in university. The piece gets its title from an original character I invented for the music: an elderly British lady whose greatest passion is caring for, maintaining, and giving tours of a beautiful flower garden her family has grown for generations. This is one of my personal favorites, a piece loved by musical faculty and many listeners alike, and a great example of my unique compositional style! Enjoy!

Far to the westernmost regions of Russia, and then farther still, there is a place known as theDancing Forest of Kaliningrad. It is a mysterious, otherworldly place where trees grow in tangles,knots, and other unfathomable shapes, a place described by local psychics as a point of conflict where great positive and negative forces collide. Due to its remarkable air of mystery, the forest has woven its way into the legends and folklore of the region. My personal favorite legend about it goes as follows: The Prussian prince Barty used to hunt in these forests. Chasing a Roe deer one day, heheard a wonderful tune, and as he came to a field, he saw a beautiful girl playing a lyre. She was a Christian and her name was Predislava. The prince proposed to her but she replied that she would marry only a man of her faith. Prince Barty agreed to become a Christian as long as she could prove the power of her invisible God was more powerful than the surrounding trees. Predislava played her lyre. Birds grew silent, and the trees started dancing. The prince then took a bracelet from his hand and gave it to her as a token of their betrothal. On this very spot, many years later, there grew the Dancing Forest.This piece is my homage to the Dancing Forest of Kaliningrad and all its associated legends. Premiered by the Santa Teresa High School Concert Band in May 2019, the work is scored for a concert band of intermediate size and skill level and is designed to help introduce high school musicians to modal music and unconventional key signatures. Furthermore, the piece is inspired by multiple rhythmic and harmonic elements of rock and folk music in an attempt to help bridge the gap between popular music and contemporary wind ensemble repertoire.
