Manuel de Falla (1876-1946) wrote his Siete canciones populares españolas (Seven Spanish Folksongs) in 1914 for voice and piano, and it premiered on January 14th of the following year, with Luisa Vela singing and the composer at the piano. The work combines authentic folk melodies and otherwise to offer the infectious melodies and rhythms inherent to the popular tunes with very original piano accompaniments. Songs included: 1. El paño moruno, 2. Seguidilla murciana, 3. Asturiana, 4. Jota, 5. Nana, 6. Canción, and 7. Polo. The immediate acclaim following the 2015 premiere in Madrid helped Falla gain international recognition.

The Spanish composer Manuel de Falla lived in Paris for seven years from 1907, where he was inspired by composerssuch as Claude Debussy, Maurice Ravel, Paul Dukas and Isaac Albeniz. Towards the end of this period in Parishe wrote his Seven Spanish Folk Songs (Siete canciones populares espanolas). Cellist Bruno Borralhinho arrangedthese songs for mezzo-soprano, clarinet, violoncello and piano. The edition includes two piano scores, as well asan alternative violin part, which allows a performance with mezzo-soprano and piano trio as well.

Eduardo Toldra (1895-1962) was a Catalan virtuoso violinist, conductor, and composer, whose students included Ros-Marba and Montsalvatge. His compositional work consists largely of songs, folk dances, operas, and orchestral pieces; rather traditional in style, it was initially dismissed as old-fashioned compared to many of his contemporaries. Today however, a revival in interest in Catalan folk music and its influences mean he is growing in popularity.

Canciones Leonesas (Leonese Songs) is a collection of folk melodies from the Leon region of north-west Spain, collected and arranged for solo Piano by Rogelio Villar . Volume One is the first of five by the composer. Rogelio Villar (1875-1937) was a Spanish composer, musicologist and pedagogue. Born in Leon, he studied at the Madrid Conservatory, where he later taught as well. His compositions were predominantly instrumental works; he avoided operatic music and gradually became more and more nationalistic in his style. He travelled widely throughout the Leon region, collecting and preserving many folk songs, which he later used in many of his compositions.
