This four-movement suite is based on French folk songs and was specifically written for groups that may not be ready for St. Paul's Suite or Capriol Suite, but still want to be able to dig into a substantial piece. In addition to the variety of styles, keys and time signatures, the last movement playfully pays homage to Holst's The Dargason. A fabulous addition to the repertoire!

Michael Brand's arrangement follows the original dance styles of Warlock's string composition but adds tambour-like drums to accentuate the dance rhythms and steps. Both title and thematic material of the Capriol Suite are derived from a famous book on dance steps published in 1589 in France. It indicated the rhythms, the steps associated with them, the manner of playing pipes and tabors, and adds nearly fifty dance tunes of the period. It was from these tunes that composer Peter Warlock selected material for his Capriol Suite for String Orchestra.

Come To Bethlehem is a Christmas carol by Dom Gregory Murray. It takes its melody from Capriol Suite, and is scored for SATB choir, with a Piano reduction for rehearsalpurposes.
Capriol Suite is a set of six dances in the Renaissance style. They form the most famous work of the English composer Peter Warlock (1894-1930), who also achieved fame for his scandalouslifestyle. Each dance is short, and draws inspiration from the tunes found in a 1589 dance manual. Warlock was an ardent admirer of Delius throughout his career, and his harmonic style is very similar. The whole suite waswritten over a single weekend in October 1926.

Frank Bridge was one of the finest English composers of the first half of the 20th century. The Pageant of London is his only work for wind band, comprising of two marches, one scored from Bridge's best known organ piece and including the chimes of Big Ben, plus three short renaissance pastiche items, one arranged from Playford (later used by Peter Warlock in Capriol Suite). The music is tuneful, approachable, and, in the words of wind band legend Timothy Reynish makes a fine alternative to Holst's two suites, which were composed around the same time. Reynish has introduced this work to concert bands right across the world. It has been performed in USA and the Far East, recorded by the celebrated Kosei Wind Orchestra of Japan and also by the BBC National Orchestra of Wales in the Chandos edition of Bridge Orchestral Music.
