Sing, Choirs! is a library in miniature. It contains many of the Christian church's popular traditional anthems, including at least one example that will be suitable for each of the major services of the year. A number of Anglican chants (Psalms, Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis) are included, set out in a way that should enable those who are unfamiliar with the style to perform them easily. The selection of movements from the Mass can be used to enrich the music of the liturgy in services. Many of the works in Sing, Choirs! are presented in their original form, such as Bruckner's Locus Iste and Mozart's Laudate Dominum . Others are arrangements, adaptations or longer pieces, abridged to bring them into the scope of a useable anthem, including choral arrangements of Handel's Largo , the Ave Marias by Schubert and by Bach and Gounod, and Franck's Panis Angelicus amongst many others. This collection has practicability as a priority. The Organ parts can be played on either the Piano or the Keyboard. Much of the music in Sing, Choirs! will be suitable for special occasions, making this an indispensable volume for choirs singing at weekly church services, weddings, funerals and in the concert hall. / Choeur Mixte (SATB) Et Orgue

Joseph Gelineau, qui venait de composer ses Vingt-quatre psaumes (1953), s'était rendu à Dijon pour convaincre Joseph Samson de s'atteler lui-même à une tâche similaire. Celui-ci, bien que peu favorable à l'usage du français dans la liturgie, se laissa gagner voire enthousiasmer. `Les psaumes chorals`, organisent un dialogue permanent entre l'assemblée (accompagné par l?orgue) et le ch?ur polyphonique, en reprenant une même mélodie qui se transforme et s'adapte aux différents versets du psaume. Un hommage à ce musicien d'exception à l'occasion du 50e anniversaire de sa mort.

The text of Susanni is a translation of Martin Luther’s hymn of 1535 Vom Himmel hoch. The music is based loosely upon the well-known chorale melody which at times is quoted in full in both voices and organ. Except where indicated singers should adopt a legato style especially in the repeated quaver patterns. Bill Ives has spent his life in choral music as a singer conductor teacher and composer (writing as Grayston Ives). He was a chorister at Ely Cathedral and later studied music at Cambridge taking composition lessons with Richard Rodney Bennett. After Cambridge he sang in Guildford Cathedral Choir before joining the King’s Singers with whom he recorded and performed worldwide.For eighteen years he directed the Choir of Magdalen College Oxford. During his tenure the choir earned a Grammy nomination for a disc of music by Orlando Gibbons and gave the première of Paul McCartney’s Ecce Cor Meum written especially for them. In 2008 his work as a composer and conductor of church music was recognised with the award of a Lambeth DMus and a Fellowship of the Royal School of Church Music.

The former appears here, as A Prayer Of Desmond Tutu, a setting of one of the Archbishop's prayers. His arrangements and compositions for the King's College Choir have been universally critically acclaimed, with A Great And Mighty Wonder, Nunc Dimittis and Were You There? representing these hugely popular collaborations. Whitbourn has also had a very close relationship with the BBC since his beginnings as a composer, working with them on three pieces within The Choral Collection. Eternal Rest and Give Us The Wings Of Faith were both composed specifically for television broadcast, the former (in its orchestral form) was played for the funeral of the Queen Mother in 2002. His longest work, for which he is most famous, is a setting of text from'the Diary of Anne Frank'. There Is No Speech Or Language comes from this work, taking its text from other sources, but that still maintain the beauty and tragedy of the wider piece. He wrote his first opera Rapunzel when only 17 and went on to composer many other dramatic andorchestral works including the chamber opera The Sleeping Children. The Missa Coventriensis is one of his larger choral works composed for the consecration of Coventry Cathedral in 1962. Easdale is perhaps most famous for his film music including Black Narcissus and The Red Shoes for which he won an Academy Award for best original music score in 1948.'Ubi Caritas is the work of a craftsman steeped naturally in the musical culture of the inter-war years. In the midst of thy temple. This six-minute anthem by Matthew Martin was commissioned by the Dean and Chapter of Westminster for a service held on 15th October 2019 to mark the 750th anniversary of the dedication of the Abbey Church of Henry III and first performed by the Choir of Westminster Abbey conducted by James O?Donnell with Peter Holder (organ). The piece sets Latin and English text ? the Angularis fundamentum (Christ is the sure foundation) (Anon 7th century), translated by. John Mason Neale (1818?1866) / Joseph Armitage Robinson (1858?1933), Dean of Westminster 1902?11. The work is scored for mixed choir with divisi, and the organ part is typical of Martin?s inimitable style.

The Lord's Prayer. For SATB choir and organ. The first performance of The Lord's Prayer was given on 14 March 2020 by the choir of Canterbury Cathedral, conducted by David Flood.

These arrangements for Choir and Organ meet the frequently made request to be able to perform well-known movements from Bach cantatas without the expense of a larger ensemble/orchestra. The cantata movements can be performed in accordance with the church year but are also suitable for performance in festive services and concerts.

for SATB and organ This Easter anthem sets an evocative text by J. M. C. Crum. Stately expressive vocal lines are underpinned by a lively organ part with crisp staccato melismas that pop out of the texture.

The text comes from the pen of the seventeenth-century Welsh poet Henry Vaughan a leading metaphysical voice during the Commonwealth period (1649-1660) when the republican government of Oliver Cromwell banned the Anglican Church. Christ's Nativity was commissioned by the Cathedral Choral Society of Washington D.C. with support from the Richard Wayne Dirksen Memorial Endowment Fund. The selected lyrics by Welsh poet Henry Vaughan fascinated me immensely and therfore prompted me to think about a specific musical environment for the piece best suited for merging the music into this wonderful poetic landscape. This poetry brings about a strong mixture of the Evangelicalmystery of Christ's Nativity mystically evoked by Nature and at the same time reveals the optimism and drama of an ordinary individual that any human being can easily identify with.
