Lute-Book Lullaby is the stunning Christmas anthem which first brought the music of Alexander L’Estrange to our attention at the turn of the 21st century. Commissioned by award-winning chamber choir Tenebrae this beautiful mixed-voice composition contrasts a sweet “lulla lullaby” refrain with a haunting and evocative soprano solo. 2016 marks the first centenary of the death of Max Reger. In addition to his best-known field of creativity Organ music his choral compositions form another major part of his oeuvre.This edition contains a selection of his sacred a cappella choral works. (Sacred Choir Music). Here the term ?Chor? (Choir) refers not only to a (large) Vocal ensemble but more generally to a group of musicians vocal or instrumental. As explained by Schutz in the foreword he published withthe collection all parts of the motets can be performed vocally and/or instrumentally.This practice common in Schutz?s time has been incorporated into Bärenreiter?s new publication. The edition includes the twelve five-part motets at original pitch with Basso Continuo. In addition instrumental parts for String and Wind instruments can be purchased. These parts which include the text serve to support and complement the choral sound ?colla parte?. To enable varying tone-colour possibilities instrumental parts are available in different transpositions.Of great significance is the detailed foreword on performance practice by Manfred Cordes.Manfred Cordes is a specialist for the music of the 16th and early 17th centuries. He works as professor for music theory counterpoint and ensemble and is also rector of the ?Hochschule für Künste Bremen?. He performs internationally as the director of the ensemble ?Weser-Renaissance Bremen?.

Denmark Revisited - Danish choral works for mixed voices a cappella.The University Choir Lille MUKO and soprano Else Torp conducted by Jesper Grove Jørgensen.For many years now there has been a broad international interest in performing Danish choral works not least from the 20th century but often the Danish lyrics have been a hindrance in realising this goal outside Denmark. With this in mind we have thought it important to make Danish choral music more available through the release of selected works in which the Danish text is translated into English. With the present choice we have endeavoured to present works which fullydemonstrate the wide range and originality of Danish choral music: the particular lyrical Danish tone of Svend S. Schultz and Jørgen Jersild; the original simplicity of Pelle Gudmundsen-Holmgreen; the characteristically Danish late romanticism of P.E. Lange-Müller and Rued Langgaard; and the music of composers with their own particular musical idiom such as Vagn Holmboe Bernhard Lewkovitch and Bo Holten. We have also tried to choose works with lyrics by writers that are specifically Danish in origin including Hans Christian Andersen Johannes V. Jensen and Tove Ditlevsen. All works are arranged for SATB Choir. James Whitbourn has become renowned throughout the world for his acclaimed compositions and settings of numerous texts. He has been described as truly original and an innovator of contemporary British choral music, collaborating with people like Archbishop Desmond Tutu and the Choir of King's College, Cambridge. The former appears here, as A Prayer Of Desmond Tutu, a setting of one of the Archbishop's prayers. His arrangements and compositions for the King's College Choir have been universally critically acclaimed, with A Great And Mighty Wonder, Nunc Dimittis and Were You There? representing these hugely popular collaborations. Whitbourn has also had a very close relationship with the BBC since his beginnings as a composer, working with them on three pieces within The Choral Collection. Eternal Rest and Give Us The Wings Of Faith were both composed specifically for television broadcast, the former (in its orchestral form) was played for the funeral of the Queen Mother in 2002. His longest work, for which he is most famous, is a setting of text from'the Diary of Anne Frank'. There Is No Speech Or Language comes from this work, taking its text from other sources, but that still maintain the beauty and tragedy of the wider piece. The Choral Collection of fifteen compositions by James Whitbourn is full of beautiful, haunting, uplifting and inspiring melodies for SATB Choir and Organ Accompaniment from one of the most treasured British choral composers.
