Bach: Complete Organ Works Vol. 6 Clavierübung III / Schübler-Choräle / Canonische Veränderungen über 'Vom Himmel hoch' - ed. by Werner Breig Bach Organ Works Printed During the Composer's Lifetime Volume 6 contains the chorale-related organ works that Bach personally had printed: the Dritte Theil der Clavier Übung was published (for organists) in 1739; the Sechs Choräle von verschiedener Art (Schübler-Choräle) and the Canonische Veränderungen were released in separate editions most likely in 1747/48. None of these collections had from the start the appearance which the composer considered as valid in the end. For this reason, Werner Breig focuses in particular on questions of origin in his introduction. Fundamental findings on the genesis of the Clavier Übung III were made only after the publication of the work in the Neue Bach-Ausgabe. The basically unproblematic state of the sources means that this volume contains no CD-ROM with supplementary materials. It was, however, considered editorially necessary to print the Canonische Veränderungen BWV 769 in three versions: as a facsimile of the original print, in a practical arrangement, and in the autograph version (BWV 769a). Bach: Complete Organ Works Vol. 7 Orgelbüchlein - with CD-ROM - ed. by Sven Hiemke Of great practical value ?This edition has everything it takes to replace the Griepenkerl edition for practical music-making,? opined Rainer Goede (in ?kirchmusik.de?) immediately after the release of Volumes 5 and 6. If such a high degree of practical value is attested to these two volumes, then Volume 7 can proudly claim to have the highest practical value of all, since it has the greatest scope of all the volumes. After all, no organist can do without the basic repertoire of the 45 chorale preludes. Edited by Sven Hiemke, the book offers the best possible prerequisites for everyday use. The musical text is as faithful to the sources as possible, and it preserves Bach?s graphic idiosyncrasies in the beaming of eighth notes and sixteenth notes. Furthermore, the chorales are reproduced on three staves, which is fully in keeping with the practice of the Bach era ? but not with the source, however, since the composer himself notated the pieces of the ?Orgelbüchlein? on two staves, either for reasons of economy or for lack of space. The enclosed CD-ROM contains early versions and anonymous arrangements which should encourage organists to explore this repertoire in greater depth.

Par VIERNE LOUIS. Louis Vierne (1870?1937) brought symphonic French organ music to its stylistic climax. Besides being a productive composer, he also gained a reputation as a brilliant improviser at his place of employment, the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, and throughout the world. In 1928 Vierne, one of the best-known organists of his day, made one of the earliest organ recordings, playing Bach works and his own improvisations in Notre Dame. This scholarly practical edition is based on the critical examination and evaluation of all the autographs, engravers? copies and first prints available, as well as on his writings and previously unpublished letters. It endeavours tobe philologically consistent in solving the editorial problems which have surfaced. In 1739 Bach's Third Part of the Clavier Übung was published on 80 pages closely printed. Ever since then the collection has been regarded as a high point in the history of organ composition as it offers an impressive cross section of Bach's artistry.This present volume is an updated edition of Volume 4, Series IV, of the New Bach Edition, presented by Manfred Tessmer in 1969. A fully revised edition proved unnecessary, as there were relatively few corrections affecting the musical text. However, the volume now includes a detailed Preface by Christoph Wolff which discusses not only the work's genesis but also offers an up-to-date description of the sources. For the new engraving of the musical text page-turns were reviewed and improved.Bach's autograph is considered lost and so the main source is the original print of the collection from 1739. In collaboration with the Leipzig Bach Archive and its database Bach digital this new edition includes links to two important copies of the original print which contain hand-written entries by Bach himself.Any complete scholarly-critical edition of the works of Johann Sebastian Bach must, in the interest of its use by researchers and performers, incorporate intervening new discoveries wherever possible. Bach: Complete Organ Works Vol. 5 Sonatas / Trios / Concertos - ed. by Pieter Dirksen Organ Works Based on Compositions by Bach and Others Genres such as sonata, trio and concerto were initially uncommon in the keyboard music of the early 18th century. Thus it comes as no surprise that many of the pieces in this volume are arrangements by Bach of original compositions and of works by other composers. Next to the Sonatas BWV 525?530 and the Concertos or concerto movements based on pieces by other composers BWV 592?596, the volume also contains the Trio in D minor BWV 583, the Trio settings BWV 585?587 as well as the early versions of BWV 527 and 528. Moreover, the CD-ROM offers eight arrangements of trio movements by Bach made by others. In his detailed introduction, Pieter Dirksen discusses various aspects of these pieces' origins, inasmuch as they help us better understand the works. The organist will especially welcome the comments on performance practice and registration. It is precisely the fact that these works derive from chamber-music models that leads to individual considerations for each work group.

The Fantasy in D minor (No. 1) was written in 1957 by Miloslav Kabelác, one of the most influential composers of the twentieth century. The prominent Czech organist Jirí Reinberger initiated the composition. It was the composer's first work for solo organ and the piece soon became a staple of international organ repertoire. The Fantasy in G minor (No. 2) was composed the following year on commission for the 1st International Organ Competition of the Prague Spring International Festival 1958.Although both fantasies were given the same opus number, this is the first ever edition to include both of these works in one volume. Le compositeur et organiste Paul Siefert, baptisé à Gdansk le 28 juin 1586 et y mourut le 6 mai 1666, appartient à le 'école d'orgue allemande du Nord'. Grâce à une subvention du Conseil de la ville de Gdansk, Siefert a passé les années de 1607 à étudier probablement fin de 1610 à Amsterdam où il obtient les idées importantes et suggestions comme élève de Sweelinck. Après son retour, il devient adjoint organiste à Gdansk. De 1611 à 1616 il travaille comme organiste d'abord à l'église de la vieille ville de Königsberg, puis à l'orchestre de Cour de Varsovie. Le 23 septembre 1623, il est nommé organiste à la Marienkirche de Gdansk, dans la succession de Michael Weyda, où il a travaillé jusqu'à la fin de sa vie. Johann Jacob Froberger (1617-1667) was a composer of considerable significance during his lifetime, his compositional style representing a synthesis of Italian, French and English influences. Increasingly, musicians and scholars are growing aware of Froberger?s importance for keyboard music of the 17th century, an importance comparable to that of Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck.

Each volume of the complete edition of Froberger?s organ and keyboard music is published in German and English with a critical commentary as well as a detailed foreword explaining the scope and subdivision of the edition and the editorial techniques. Matthias Weckesser, né en Niederdorla près de Mühlhausen (Thuringe) en 1616 et décédé à Hambourg en 1674, a été formé en tant que musicien par Heinrich Schutz à Dresde, entre autres. Il a travaillé comme organiste à Dresde (église du château) et Hambourg (Saint-James). Il est particulièrement pour l'orgue Jacobson qu'il a écrit ses oeuvres pour orgue élaborer et virtuose. Notre nouvelle édition de 'Les maîtres de l'orgue d'Allemagne du Nord School 'la célèbre série des transferts fidèlement les oeuvres ont survécu en tablature lettre qui, en fournissant un texte modifié de façon fiable d'origine. Le volume 1 contient les oeuvres cantus firmus à base de 8 cycles verset authentique avec 2-7 mouvements chacun dont les mélodies de choral tels que 'Il n'ya de salut vient pas de nous', 'Béni sois-tu, Jésus-Christ)'ou le 'Magnificat' sont variées, ainsi qu'un cycle sur 'Ah, nous pauvres pécheurs' attribué à Weckmann. Volume 2 lui révèle un maître de musique d'orgue concertant, travaille avec contenant 3 pédales (Fantaisie et Fugue en ré Praeambulum) ainsi que plusieurs oeuvres moyennement difficile à jouer sur les manuels seulement (6 Toccatas, 5 canzonas). Wilhelm Middelschulte (1863-1943) a étudié la musique d'église à Berlin. A partir de 1891 il a travaillé comme directeur du département d'orgue au Conservatoire américain de Chicago et le Conservatoire du Wisconsin à Milwaukee. Comme un organiste virtuose, il a eu un impact formateur aux Etats-Unis.Pas moins d'autorité que Ferruccio Busoni décrit Middelschulte comme un 'maître du contrepoint' et déclaré qu'il était le plus grand contrapuntalist depuis Johann Sebastian Bach.Volume IV contient deux oeuvres qui appartiennent au groupe de plus grande envergure compositions complétée par le compositeur lui-même. La Symphonie contrapuntique était la dernière oeuvre qui sera publié durant la vie du compositeur. Le manuscrit de la Chaconne était considéré comme perdu jusqu'à récemment et il est maintenant publié ici pour la première fois.L'oeuvre d'orgue sera composé d'un total de sept volumes .. / Orgue
