Eight Nights of Light is a fantastic medley of traditional Chanukah and Jewish tunes arranged for today's middle and high school concert band. This Grade 3.5 arrangement is rooted in my childhood days when my family would gather around the menorah and warm the cold winter nights with singing and inspiration. I originally made this medley for piano and for my own personal use. One day as my colleague Christopher Cicconi and I were discussing our holiday plans, my medley came up in conversation. Christopher asked to see and listen to it. Shortly thereafter, he suggested that this would make a terrific band piece. Immediately, we began work. The vast majority of tunes are traditional, but I introduce a new tune by a contemporary Rabbi who has been very important to me. This arrangement is particularly effective as Chris, who has conducted at the middle, high school and university levels, has a masterful grasp of how the pedagogy works with younger concert bands. --Jonathan Leshnoff.Eight Nights of Light is a fantastic medley of traditional Chanukah and Jewish tunes arranged for today’s middle and high school concert band. Lauri Mäntysaari explores the theme nature in Chats before Sunrise (2007, rev. 2022). The atmosphere created in this composition is one of early dawn after a long night spent with good friends (and wine, perhaps), a moment where an unseen element lighter than the air seems to hold the still bubbling conversation in its arms and let us feel relieved. Not only does the word chat mean a light conversation, but also a family of birds which is particularly known for their habit of making clicking sounds. These chats also find their place in the composition.Duration: c. 6'Lauri Mäntysaari (b. 1982 Helsinki) is known for his wide variety of composing for different media. His output consists of orchestral works, music for instrumental ensemble, solo works, songs and choir music. His works have been performed widely in Finland, but also in eg. Sweden, Denmark, Estonia, Austria and Canada. Mäntysaari's works have recently gained success in international competitions in Italy and The Netherlands.

Medley of familiar Christmas Carols This reflective piece combines Twas in the Moon of Wintertime' with O Come, O Come, Emmanuel, making it perfect for Advent and Christmas. Echo and LV make for a warm tone in the chordal and arpeggio accompaniment while the melody floats above. The ending encompasses both tunes simply conversing to a close on an open chord, emphasizing the mystery of that holy night.
