Il Signore Fagotto begint met een briljante orkestrale introductie. Dan introduceert de fagot het hoofdthema van het werk. Die Vielseitigkeit des Fagotts erkannten schon viele große Komponisten, wie z.B. Vivaldi oder Rimski-Korsakow. Es kann von melancholisch, klagend bis hin zu komisch und grotesk klingen. Letztere Eigenschaft war der Grund, warum in der commedia dell’arte im Italien der 1550er Jahre eine Figur namens Signor Fagotto, die das Fagott verkörperte, eine der wichtigsten komischen Rollen spielte. Maxime Aulio benannte nach ihm dieses Werk, in dem das Fagott seine schalkhafte, charmante Seite voll ausleben und auch das übrige Blasorchester brillieren kann.

Nicola Rimski-Korsakov disait du basson qu’il était « sénile et fourbe en Majeur, souffrant et triste en mineur ». Dans le grave et en staccato, il est indéniablement comique, grotesque et bouffon. Cette diversité de caractère avait déj inspiré la Commedia dell’arte qui confia Signor Fagotto l’un des rôles comiques essentiels. Au XVIIIe siècle, selon l’usage de l’opéra-comique italien (opera buffa), la voix était doublée par un instrument vent. De Signor Fagotto au basson, l’instrument qui allait le seconder, il n’y avait qu’un pas. C’est aussi cette époque que le basson devient un instrument soliste part entière. Vivaldi lui consacrera près de40 concertos. Sans doute a-t-il été conquis par sa personnalité généreuse, comme bien d’autres compositeurs dont Maxime Aulio. Il Signore Fagotto débute avec une introduction orchestrale brillante. Le soliste expose ensuite le thème premier de l’œuvre. L’utilisation presque constante d’un chiffrage de mesure irrégulier (7/8) permet au basson d’accentuer son caractère espiègle et charmant, tout en laissant l’auditeur un espace de liberté suffisant pour imaginer les facéties du personnage. Il Signore Fagotto est une œuvre captivante pour l’accompagnement orchestral et qui offre au basson une superbe partie soliste.Il Signore Fagotto a été donné en création mondiale le 24 avril 2002 par Laurent Le Chenadec (basson) accompagné de l’Orchestre d’Harmonie du Conservatoire National de Région de Toulouse.

This work was written for the Donaueschingen Musiktage of 1926 and given its first performance there together with Paul Hindemith's 'Konzertmusik' and Ernst Toch's 'Spiel' for wind band. Until a few years ago the score was thought to be lost. This first edition reproduces the original Version but it has been carefully extended so that it can be played by the usual combination of Instruments now found in a wind band. The work is suitable for advanced wind bands and those at the highest level, and is one of the first original compositions for this form of ensemble.Hans Gal was born in Vienna where he studied composition and musicology and then taught at the university. From 1929 until 1933 he was Director of the Musikhochschule in Mainz. He then had to return to Vienna and he emigrated to Edinburgh where he was a university lecturer and conductor. This is a stirring, skilful transfer of pop-style music for youth wind band. The original composition can he performed by smaller bands: the larger score is for additional Instruments. Leslie Searle came to Germany in 1965 as a Saxophonist in the Band of the Royal Air Force. He has composed and made arrangements of music by Kurt Edelhagen among others, and has played in numerous bands. He is now director of a private music school in Remscheid.

Bertold Hummel's Symphonic Overture was initially part of the Orgeon Symphony. It was then revised as a work in its own right and given the title Symphonic Overture. This work, which lasts about eight minutes, is conceived from one thematic idea. It explores the technical recources as well as the rich tonal colours of the wind band. It is suitable both for concerts competitions. Bertold Hummel was a pupil of Harald Genzmer. He was a choirmaster in Freiburg, and then until his retirement, Professor of Composition at Musikhochschule in Wurzburg and director of the Studio fur Neue Musik [Studio for New Music].

Cherubini made his Paris debut with Démophon, which premiered in 1788. Tohru Takahashi has arranged this dramatic overture for concert band, with specific parts for oboe, bassoon and saxophone among others. However, since the important parts are also included as cues in the score, it can be adapted to a more limited instrumentation.

In het jaar 1788 debuteerde de Italiaanse componist Luigi Cherubini in Parijs met zijn opera Demophon. Van de dramatische ouverture schreef Tohru Takahashi een arrangement voor blaasorkest. Bijzondere partijen zijn weggelegd voor hobo, fagot en saxofoon. Omdat de belangrijkste stemmen als cues in de partituur zijn opgenomen, kunt u het werk ook met een kleinere bezetting uitvoeren.

Die Oper Démophon war Cherubinis erstes Werk in Paris und wurde 1788 uraufgeführt. Tohru Takahashi arrangierte die dramatische Ouvertüre aus der Oper für Blasorchester. Besondere Rollen spielen unter anderem Oboe, Fagott und Saxophon. Da die wichtigen Stimmen auch als Stichnoten in der Partitur notiert sind, kann das Stück auch mit einer kleineren Instrumentierung aufgeführt werden.

Fanfare for Tokyo is a flamboyant and extrovert concert opener designed to celebrate the virtuosic character of the talented Tokyo Wind Symphony Orchestra. A central theme over persistent percussion is first given by bassoons and taken up by the full ensemble. Either side of this horns and euphoniums lead an acrobatic fanfare under woodwind flourishes.

Guardians of the Waves was commissioned by the Japan Coast Guard Band to celebrate their 30th anniversary in 2018. They gave the premiere as part of a 30th anniversary concert on November 8th that year. Set in traditionalmarch form, Guardians of the Waves opens with a short introduction, which leads to the main theme, played initially by the brass and then repeated with a florid woodwind descant. The theme is extended and morphs into asecond theme, first played tutti and then quietly repeated by bassoon, tenor sax and euphonium. This leads to a conventional ‘bass strain’, played twice with varying accompaniments. A quieter trio section follows, delicatelyscored and featuring the tenor instruments of the band. Taken up by the full band, this leads back to a recall of the introduction and a return to the main two themes, which lead to a triumphal close.

Guardians of the Waves werd geschreven in opdracht van de Japan Coast Guard Band ter gelegenheid van het dertigjarig bestaan van dit orkest, in 2018. De première vond plaats tijdens het jubileumconcert op 8 november van datjaar. Het werk, dat is gecomponeerd in een traditionele marsvorm, begint met een korte introductie die het hoofdthema inleidt, dat aanvankelijk wordt gespeeld door het koper en dan wordt herhaald met een weelderige discant in hethout. Het thema wordt voortgezet en gaat over in een tweede thema, eerst tutti gespeeld en rustig herhaald door fagot, tenorsax en eufonium. Dit thema voert ons mee naar een conventionele baslijn, die twee keer wordt gespeeld metvariërende begeleiding. Daarna volgt een kalmer triogedeelte, dat delicaat is getoonzet en waarin de tenorinstrumenten van het orkest ruimschoots aan bod komen. Het wordt dan overgenomen door het complete orkest en brengt onsterug naar de inleiding en de twee hoofdthema’s, uitmondend in een triomfantelijk slot.

Guardians of the Waves wurde von der Japan Coast Guard Band anlässlich ihres 30-jährigen Bestehens im Jahr 2018 in Auftrag gegeben. Die Uraufführung fand am 8. November 2018 im Rahmen eines Jubiläumskonzertes statt.Guardians of the Waves wurde als traditioneller Marsch komponiert und beginnt mit einer kurzen Einleitung, die zum Hauptthema führt. Dieses wird zunächst von den Blechbläsern gespielt und dann von den Oberstimmen in denHolzbläsern mit Verzierungen wiederholt. Das Thema wird erweitert und geht in ein zweites Thema über, das zunächst vom Tutti gespielt und dann von Fagott, Tenorsaxophon und Euphonium leise wiederholt wird. Anschließend erklingteine traditionelle Melodie in den Bassinstrumenten, die mit unterschiedlicher Begleitung zweimal gespielt wird. Es folgt ein ruhigeres Trio, das zart besetzt ist und die Tenorinstrumente des Blasorchesters hervorhebt. Dies wirdschließlich vom gesamten Blasorchester aufgegriffen und führt zu einer Wiederholung der Einleitung und einer Rückkehr zu den beiden Hauptthemen, die in einen triumphalen Schluss überleiten.

Guardians of the Waves est une commande de l’Harmonie de la Gendarmerie maritime du Japon pour marquer son 30e anniversaire, en 2018. L’orchestre a créé l’œuvre dans le cadre d’un concert d’anniversaire le 8 novembre decette même année. Écrite en forme de marche traditionnelle, Guardians of the Waves s’ouvre avec une courte introduction qui mène au thème principal, interprété d’abord par les cuivres puis repris avec un déchant fleuri parles bois. Le thème est prolongé et se morphe en un second thème, d’abord en tutti, puis répété doucement par les bassons, saxophones ténor et euphoniums. Ce passage mène une mélodie conventionnelle dans les graves, jouée deuxfois avec divers accompagnements. Vient ensuite un trio plus calme, orchestré avec délicatesse et mettant en avant les instruments ténor. Repris par l’orchestre entier, ce passage est suivi d’un rappel de l’introduction avant unretour aux deux thèmes principaux, qui mènent une conclusion triomphale.
