December Prayer

Lord Heare My Prayer Instantly is a composition by renowned contemporary composer Nico Muhly that was first performed on the 13th of December 2014 in the All Souls Episcopal Parish Church in Berkeley California. The piece lasts around 4 minutes and is arranged for unaccompanied SATB divisi chorus. This beautiful piece is a setting of an anonymous metrical version of Psalm 102:1-2 in which the speaker begs God to listen and hear his pleas. This work was first performed by The International Orange Chorus of San Francisco conducted by Zane Fiala in honour of their tenth anniversary. 

The Prayers Of Kierkegaard were selected from the Kierkegaard's various writings and sermons written between 1847 and 1855. Prayers Of Kierkegaard was completed in January 1954 and was first performed by the Boston Symphony and the Cecelia Society on December 3rd 1954. This Vocal Score edition has a Piano reduction of the original Orchestral score and is scored for Mixed Chorus Soprano Solo and Piano.Words in English and German. After his first Italian journey (13 December 1769 to 28 March 1771) Mozart returned to his post as archiepiscopal “Konzertmeister”. Undoubtedly inspired by what he had just experienced he wrote the Litaniae Lauretanae (Loretian Litany) K.109 (74e) his first work in this genre which is dated May 1771.The form of the Litany was found already in early Christian times. Like its name suggests it is a prayer of supplication with a steady repetition of acclamations; however with regard to its manner ofperformance it is also a kind of responsory prayer. When Queen Caroline the wife of King George II of England died on 20 November 1737 Handel was commissioned to write an anthem for her funeral service. She was buried in King Henry VII?s Chapel Westminster Abbey on the evening of 17 December 1737 with Handel?s work performed after the funeral service.To emphasize the solemnity of the occasion he used a roughly 100-piece Orchestra and 80 Choristers. The piece is a so-called ?full anthem? consisting of an instrumental Introduction (?Symphony?) and thirteen interlinked choruses. The words were written by Edward Willes the Sub-Dean of Westminster at that time using passages from the King James Bible and theBook of Common Prayer albeit sometimes departing from the original wording.The absence of sections for solo voice has made this anthem a favourite among ambitious choruses and a highlight of any concert programme.
