The works of Pater AEmilian Rosengart point beyond their original setting, Ochsenhausen Abbey. The highly diverse music of this Te Deum - like some of his other sacred works - originated in lost operas and oratorios by this composer, and was adapted to different texts for liturgical use by Rosengart himself. Score and part available separately - see item CA.9125900.

Te Deum is an abbreviated title commonly given both to the original Latin text and the translations of a hymn in rhythmical prose that has the opening words, Te Deum Laudamus. Mozart's attempt at a re-working of this Te Deum was hugely successful; showing his characteristic verve and melodic brilliance. This is the full score of this extraordinary piece for Full Mixed-Voice Choir, 2 Violins, Cello and Organ.

Großer Gott, wir loben dich is a well-known German hymn, written by Ignaz Franz in the 18th century but based on the 4th century Te Deum laudamus. After a radiant introduction by the brass section, the first variation on the chorale appears. Subsequently, the song is rendered in its original form. Then three more variations follow. The result is a solemn work that is very fitting within the context of a church service, but is also suitable for many other occasions. Florida composer Charles Thatcher arranges the Te Deum., Tonus Simplex. Here he has created a dialogue between cantors and chorus, the assembly participates with the easily repeated Latin response Te Deum laudamus. The choral writing creatively supports the assembly part and adds harmonic contrast beneath the cantor verses.

Te Deum Laudamus...by Richard Proulx is a setting of Dryden's translation, itself a most interesting comparison with the Prayer Book version, for SATB choir with some divisi, accompanied solely by handbells and tambourine, with optional flute and cello parts (doubling the soprano and bass vocal lines respectively). Much use is made of the traditional chant of the Te Deum, and there are one or two passages for solo bartione; an intriguing exercise, and one that makes a worthwhile alternative to more traditional ways of singing the Te Deum. --Michael Fleming.
