Luonnonjumalan lähde | The Spring of God of Nature3. Metsässä tuulee |The Wind Blows through the ForestTauno Marttinen (1912–2008) studied in Viipuri and later in Helsinki at the Helsinki Conservatoire. His piano teachers were Ilmari Hannikainen and Selim Palmgren, but he soon became increasingly interested in composing. Marttinen was also the conductor of the Hämeenlinna City Orchestra in 1949−1958 and the founder and principal of the Hämeenlinna Music Institute.Marttinen started his composing career in late Romantic vein. However, his first concerts in the 1940s met with criticism since the winds of Modernism had already landed in Finland. He then became interested in Dodecaphony and studied under Vladimir Vogel in Ascona but later abandoned strict dodecaphony and found his own, personal style incorporating elements from Neo-classicism and free-tonality with a hint of mysticism – he was called the Shaman of Hämeenlinna (his hometown).Tauno Marttinen was an incredibly productive composer; he wrote around four hundred works with opus numbers as well as a wealth of other pieces. His oeuvre includes 10 symphonies, concertos for various solo instruments, operas as well as vocal, chamber and instrumental works. Many of Marttinen’s pieces have become popular standard repertoire, such as the piano piece Kimalluksia (Gleams).

For those who trust in God, in the pain of sorrow there is consolation, in the face of despair there is hope, in the midst of death there is life. —Order of Christian Funerals Those who struggle with the inability to conceive, those who know the pain of losing a child before birth, and those who have faced their infant's death at the time of birth know that this season of mourning is often held inside, hidden and unseen. But God does not abandon us. Somehow, on the other side of loss an incredible story of resilience emerges. Bodies, though they are never the same again, heal. Couples try again, adopt, or reimagine. Those who mourn in isolation find not one, not two, but a community of others with whom they can identify. God's silence is not absence, it is the patient listening of a God who knows our grief first-hand, who weeps with us, who holds us as a mother holds her child. Death is never the whole story. The hope of new life surprises, confounds, persists. Of Womb and Tomb: Prayer in Time of Infertility, Miscarriage, and Stillbirth is a resource for individuals, couples, and parish communities who wish to accompany those on their grief journey. Filled with stories, prayers, Scripture, poems, and rituals this book may serve as a guide in creating prayer opportunities in a variety of settings. Together, let us bear witness to the Christian mystery—that new life is born of the womb and of the tomb. Once in a great while we encounter a resource that fundamentally changes the way we do ministry. We are so moved and formed and challenged that it is difficult, perhaps even impossible, to forget the sacred treasures contained within. GIA’s Of Womb and Tomb is exactly that resource. —John Kyler.

“Buenos Aires is good air, utopia, wishful thinking, a loving reality as far as life and its possible meaning are concerned. I have woven into each other, turned around and adjusted early God texts by Rilke from his period in Berlin Schmargendorf. But: instead of God, the word 'tango.' Instead of God, the remote city. Instead of genitive, imperative. Instead of a picture in a picture, a picture – a gesture, a 'monologino,' a scene. Berio's Folk Songs formed an inner invoication, a wakening call for the approximately 10-minute piece. It may be played lightly. It should be easily playable. Play and immediately (!) feel and interpret. The tempo is always there in order to be immediately abandoned, to let go, to feel togetherness. No fear of couting and counting errors, or of the aesthetic patriarchy. No. Everything frank and free. A good mood. In love. In good air. Against worry.†–Jan Müller-Wieland.
