Orchestrated to celebrate inclusion and diversity, the multi-level option is designed to sound far greater than the intermediate version alone. In 1988, GIA released Michael Joncas’s No Greater Love, a flexible mass setting offering cathedral-style music that was accessible to the singing assembly. Beautiful melodies enhanced by SATB choir and extensive orchestrations were the hallmark of this best-selling work. Now, Michael Joncas has revised this treasured setting using the 2010 Revised Order of Mass. The revision has a new through-composed Gloria that can be sung in unison during the Sundays of Ordinary Time, and for more festive occasions, one can add the optional instrumental and SATB choral parts. Also new to this setting are the gospel acclamation and a sung setting of the prayer of the faithful. The memorable congregational parts for the Kyrie and the Agnus Dei haven’t changed and the much-loved Holy, Holy has been adapted to accommodate the 2010 Revised Order of Mass text. The optional orchestration is now reduced and includes string quartet, flute, and oboe parts.

No Greater Sacrifice is a thoughtful review of the last days of Jesus' earthly life as He prepared Himself and His followers for that which was to come. It is a poignant look at the Master as He fulfilled the call of God and became the sacrificial Lamb. The inspirational blending of music, lyrics, and narration provides the framework for a most meaningful worship experience. This work may be presented in a single 20–25 minute performance, or the five individual anthems and their correlating narratives may be used to present the final days of Jesus' life during a series of Lenten or Holy Week services. Beginning with the Palm Sunday entrance into Jerusalem and concluding with the resounding refrain Worthy Is the Lamb!, this flexible and practical worship resource is designed specifically for creative church musicians to use during the busy Lenten season.

Inspired by PIETA, Michelangelo's famous statue of Mary holding the life-less body of Jesus in her arms, this latest collaboration of Rev. Privette and Lani Smith team presents a special opportunity for worshippers to grasp the tragic depth and texture of the events of Holy Week. Once we have recalled the tragedy of Holy Week, we come to appreciate more completely the joyful message of Easter Sunday, that through the resurrection of Jesus, God is truly victorious over evil and death, and that even the sorrow and pain of a mother, who loses her first-born son, leads to joy and exultation in his new life with God. Imaginative new settings of familiar hymns and original music enhance the narrative of the final week of Jesus' life. This cantata is designated to add a new dimension of meaning and understanding to any Palm Sunday, Maudy Thursday, or Good Friday service.

This piece is extracted from the complete setting No Greater Love Mass, G-8789. An arpeggiated accompaniment in contrary motion underlies the cantor’s invocations, switching to a stately support of the congregational or choral Kyrie responses. With easy adaptation, the Kyrie portions could be extracted for a stand-alone Kyrie as well.
