In 1726 Johann Sebastian Bach performed a series of cantatas by his Meiningen cousin Johann Ludwig, then continued this series with his own works, but remained faithful to the textual models used his cousin: a Meiningen cycle of texts by an unknown author from the early 18th century. All these texts share the characteristic of including two quotations from the bible: one from the Old Testament at the beginning, and another from the New Testament in the middle. These cantatas include Herr, deine Augen sehen nach dem Glauben BWV 102. The opening chorus in several sections is one of Bach's masterpieces of choral composition. The cantata is also one of those works on which Bach's later reputation was based: performances are documented from 1776 in Hamburg and in Berlin by Zelter's Sing-Akademie from 1813 onwards. In 1830 it was one of the very first cantatas by Bach to appear in print. Score and parts available separately - see item CA.3110200.

Philip Stopford's new Mass setting for assembly, cantor, SATB voices and organ was commissioned for St. Luke the Evangelist Church in Richmond Heights, Missouri, to commemorate the parish's Centennial. It is a complete setting: Penitential Act (four options), Gloria (through composed), Sprinkling Rite, Gospel Acclamations (Alleluia and Lenten acclamations), Universal Prayer, Eucharistic Acclamations and Lamb of God. Latin settings of the Gloria, Sanctus, and Agnus Dei are also included. While Mr. Stopford's compositional style has the broad sweep of English church music, his flair for melody keeps it accessible for assembly. Movements such as the Holy, Holy are set creatively and will remain fresh after years of singing. Parts for brass quintet and timpani on the major movements add to a festive rendition.

Winner of the 2020 Queens' College MagSoc competition and the 2021 California CDA George Huessenstamm Choral Composition Competition , this floating, dance-like melody set to the Robert Browning poem truly sings. Song-like in nature, the harmonies have a contemporary and subtle jazz character that rings through sentimental text beautifully. Composed as a set of three compositions, also look for Day of Fire and Sun (15/3898H) and Give Me Your Stars to Hold (15/3843L)ire and Sun (15/3842L and Give Me Your Stars to Hold (15/3843L).

Above the central prayer of Christianity, the composition with its dense sounds and atmospheric colours develops a mood of profound awe and self-contained strength. An expressive composition of our new composer Pascal Martine - personally recommended by the editors of your choral department!
