This work by Kodaly's pupil Szelenyi, published here for the first time, might be seen as something approaching the Romantic piano concerto without orchestra. Even the Fugato in this work seems to point to the Romantic tradition, recalling as it does Liszt's Sonata in B minor. The varied interplay between dramatic and lyrical moods is richly inventive. This Concertino offers (young) piano soloists the opportunity to mount the podium as an aspiring virtuoso, accompanying a second part that demonstrates symphonic pretensions. The two players are evenly matched in musical terms in the dialogue between the two pianos.

Colour Keys Piano ABC is designed for young beginners. Piano ABC is suitable for both private and group lessons. This method book applies the ideas of Zoltan Kodaly who believed in the importance of developing the inner hearing skills through audio-visual means. A child-centered Colour Keys method, which is based on the Colour Strings approach, introduces new musical concepts in the simplest manner possible. The different octave ranges of the keyboard are illustrated with a coloured slip that is placed behind the keys. In addition, a different character represents each octave. The staff is constructed gradually from a single-line staff into a five-line staff. The method uses relative solfa. Little do wandering on the keyboard suggests transposition. A transparent transposing slip will guide transposition and functions in every key. The pieces present a collection of folk songs and children's songs from many different countries. This separate Teacher's Guide (also available in Finnish) offers pedagogical information about the teaching material as well as the lyrics to the songs.

Imagine a conversation among leaders who are passionate about their general music teaching, who have found incredible power in Music Learning Theory (MLT), who exchange ideas about how to be successful in the classroom, and who are eager to share what they’ve learned with one another. This is the magic of Q & A for MLT. Drawing from their expertise, experience, and unique perspectives, authors Jill Reese, Heather Shouldice, and Jennifer Bailey—along with a series of guest contributors—provide practical suggestions for managing the challenges and choices in a Music Learning Theory-based classroom, sometimes agreeing and other times highlighting differing perspectives that encourage the reader to consider what best fits their understanding and context. The book addresses key topics, including: An overview of Music Learning Theory Suggestions for classroom activities Developing the teacher's own musical skills and content knowledge Blending MLT with the Kodaly and Orff approaches Measuring music aptitude and assessing student growth Long-term and short-term planning Adapting MLT for diverse populations (students with disabilities, visual impairments, and English Language Learners) How to use MLT in various contexts (the preshool classroom, urban settings, elementary choir, and middle school general music) Through a conversational blend of research, scholarship, stories from the classroom, and humor, this book gives educators a reliable source for finding answers to real-life questions and suggestions for navigating the specifics of successfully applying MLT in the classroom.
