Over three verses, Aurore describes the approaching dawn through an intensifying piano accompaniment: shining out like fading stars, the short quarter notes in the first verse in G major give way in the second verse to a rippling sixteenth note accompaniment in the minor key. Shimmering harmonies allow the first rays of sun to shine in glistening drops of dew, and the dreams escape “like a light swarmâ€. The third verse returns to the key of G major, full of promise: the new day awakens with its promise of love and beauty. This art song was originally composed not for chamber choir, but for solo voice and piano. Denis Rouger has carefully adapted it to suit the requirements and expressive possibilities offered by a larger ensemble, without losing any of the qualities of the original in the process. Each part in the choir has a melodic line drawn from the harmonic and rhythmic framework. In the process, the variety and refinement of the choral language combines with an enormous flexibility in form and expression, as French melodies or German art song demand from a soloist and pianist.

Quoting Franz Gruber's “Silent Night,” this original work of lyric and music is a beautiful ballad that will fit nicely in any holiday or Christmas program. “On this silent peaceful night, you can feel the love inside. Hope is shining like a light, all is calm and bright...” A simple and contemporary lullaby for young and developing choirs.

This uplifting anthem sounds like a current radio hit---the kind you'll want to sing again and again. Its powerful contemporary pop hook makes for a perfect celebration at the beginning of the year or a fitting sentiment at the end.

Well-chosen music is an essential adjunct to the dignity and reverence of funerals and acts of remembrance, comforting those who mourn, and shining light upon the personality of the departed person. Among these fifteen new arrangements, organists will find a wealth of material from which to select the right piece appropriate to the occasion. There are classics such as Mendelssohn's O rest in the Lord and Handel's Dead March from Saul, romantic masterpieces like Elgar's Nimrod and Mahler's Adagietto, as well as a contemporary favourite, Candle in the Wind, which featured so memorably at the funeral of Diana, Princess of Wales. A leading arranger and teacher for the organ, John Norris has also included his own Improvisation on Brother James' Air, an arrangement of Sibelius's Finlandia ('Be still, my soul'), and a novelty item The Broken Melody by Auguste van Biene. The collection concludes, appropriately, with Stanford's uplifting Nunc Dimittis from the Evening Service in C.

At night you see the moon up in the sky shining in silver color. The radiance is both beautiful and tranquil. Although in triple time, Silver Moon sort of feels like it is in duple time with the combination of a half note and a quarter note. The third beat should be lighter, like Baroque dance music. It is more about a feeling so that the music sounds more natural and smooth. The work consists of three sections. The first and the third have a main theme with a repeated pattern of harmonic progressions. During the second part each melody sings more like a dialogue. The optional piano part adds to the special quality of the song.At night you see the moon up in the sky shining in silver color. The radiance is both beautiful and tranquil. The piece was commissioned by Kevin Scully, Director of Creative Arts, for the Port Washington School District, New York, with special thanks to the Ed Foundation and HEARTS for their unwavering support. Performance Notes This lighthearted piece is a great way to bring multiple choirs together in harmony. It may be sung by a single SATB choir, though it is intended to be performed by multiple choirs of varying age levels. Song of the Sound was written for an all-district feeder festival piece for combined elementary, middle level, and high school choirs. Here is a suggested outline for combining multiple choirs: Rehearsal Letters A to B: Elementary choir only (two-part, Soprano, Alto) Rehearsal Letter B: add Middle Level Soprano, Alto with Elementary choir Rehearsal Letter C: Middle Level choir only Rehearsal Letter D: High School choir only Rehearsal Letter E to the end: Everyone! Song of the Sound: Running on the beach, digging in the sand, Seaweed in my toes, bucket in my hand. When I'm at the shore, way above the rest, These are all the things that I love the best. Skipping like a stone on the water, diving deep in the silvery foam, Swimming far where the land cannot hold us, where the lighthouse calls us home. Flying free above the marshes, soaring high above the sea, Where the tern and cormorant and plover call to lands we cannot see.Come let us go to the water, let us go to the singing shore: Where the gentle breezes whisper and the mighty breakers roar. We will look to the shining ocean, to the East, where the new day dawned: We will sing a song of the edge of the world and the waiting sky beyond. -Poem by Robert Bode (Hope Springs Retreat Center, Ohio.
