Mass - for unison choir (SSA) and organ by Bendt Fabricius. From the preface: In the 1980s, I was an organist at Mosede Church, and I was so lucky here to have a talented girls' choir. This Mass for equal-voiced choir and organ is composed for my girls in Mosede. The Mass takes its textual starting point in the Roman Catholic High Mass in Latin with its five fixed liturgical links, Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus and Agnus Dei. In my fair, I have chosen to translate the texts into Danish, which means that the work, both by rehearsal and performance, has the special presence that an immediate understanding of a text will always evoke. The five rates can be listed either together or separately. The movements have different degrees of difficulty, so that Kyrie and Credo are the simplest to perform, while the other three movements make greater demands, both in terms of melody, rhythm and harmonics. A major challenge in the performance of the mass will be the obligatory organ voice, which constitutes a concerted element in relation to the choir voices. The organ voice is generally accompanying, but occasionally performs solo in a way that challenges and contrasts the choir voices. Bendt Fabricius 2018.

David Hurd’s New Plainsong, a unison setting of the ordinary of the Mass first appeared in 1980 and quickly became a staple of Roman Catholic and Episcopal congregations. It was expanded in 1985 for inclusion as one the three complete mass settings in GIA’s iconic Worship—Third Edition. Now, David has set the new texts according the 2010 Roman Missal, keeping this venerable setting alive on the lips of congregations. As the title suggests, this is a chant-like setting accompanied by organ, with sections equally successful being sung unaccompanied. This is sturdy, beautiful music that is able to bear repetition week to week throughout the year.

Amilcare Ponchielli (1834-1886) is known nowadays mainly as an opera composer and the composition teacher of Giacomo Puccini and Pietro Mascagni. He scored his greatest success in 1876 at La Scala Milan with the opera La Gioconda, a work which is still in the repertoire of the major opera houses. Ponchielli's sacred works were composed in his later years, when he was maestro di cappella at the Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore in Bergamo. There his Mass in A major op. 20 (also known as Messa per la notte di natale) was premiered on Christmas Day 1882. The Mass is captivating because of its flowing, singable melodies, rich harmonies, and warm tonal colors. The important role given to the chorus, with which the three male soloists interact closely, is striking. The first music edition of the Messa is a real discovery for choirs with good male voices; the second tenor part can largely be sung by the baritones.

The Missa sub titulo Sti. Leopoldi pro festo Innocentium MH 837, written for the choir boys of the Salzburg Cathedral, was the last completed work of Johann Michael Haydn. Haydn composed more than thirty works to Latin and German settings for his beloved choir boys in a scoring for two or three treble voices. The composition of the Leopoldi-Mass was completed on 22 December 1805 and it corresponds entirely to the strength of the hopeful pupils. On New Year's Eve in 1805 Haydn, who had long been sick and who suffered under the consequences of the invasion of the French, wrote to his friend Father Weringand Rettensteiner: in spite of all the tragic circumstances, I still wrote a Mass for the children's festival, and I think they enjoyed it..
