Camelia City March was written to celebrate the small southern city of Quitman, Georgia and Brooks County. Quitman is known as the “Camelia City” because of the many varieties of camelia plants found in the historical part of town.This march is written for young band in the traditional style of Henry Fillmore. After a short introduction, the first strain has a light, happy melody with a simple flourish from the low brass. The second strain is highlighted by dynamic changes to add depth. The new melodic content introduced by the low clarinets and euphonium first time through the trio add to the beauty of this march. This is followed by a flourish of brass to the end.

Each title is presented in two ways. The first version of the work arrangement for piano with all fingering and figuring included. The second version present the elementary theme along with the origianl harmonic figuring which is the 'raw material' used for composing all arrangements. By using these two versions, pianists will be able to analyze the melodic and harmonic improvements added to the piano arrangement, as well as practice their own improvisations on the themes. Piano teachers will also find in this volume a good basic repertory to introduce Jazz to their students. The playful aspect is added to this anthology by way of the midi-files which accompany the mixed CD (CD audio and CD rom) offering the possibility to listen to the pieces in midi by using the sound card of a computer. In addition, it is possible to change the sounds and teh tempo with appropriate equipement.

'Brice Catherin, a cellist and a composer exploring the notion of the one-man-band concept, commissioned this work; this composition was subsequently the result of our collaboration. My aim has been to create a work where the cellist produces sounds using his full body: his hands (employing a variety of extended techniques on the Cello and external objects), his feet, his mouth (singing and playing the harmonica and flexible tube) and even his face on one occasion to muffle the strings. There are two central themes in the work: virtuosity and theatre, both strong, frequent features of my compositional oeuvre. After several meetings and experimentation with Brice, I chose asetup that enhances the musical scope without visually cluttering the stage. I am also using a rather unusual scordatura that not only changes the timbre of the instrument itself, but also helps create unique soundscapes that blend together with the sounds from the spring drums, the human voice (whistling, groans and other effects), a singing bowl, a harmonica and a flexible tube among others. The work is entitled Emmelia and there are two reasons for this: Emmelia derives from the prefix en (in) and the noun melos (harmony), thus meaning in harmony. The composition is structured and developed in clearly defined sections (noisy, harmonious, distorted, etc.), based on information revealed by a spectral analysis of an F1 spectrum on the cello (tuned a fifth below low C), played and recorded using a variety of attacks and triggering objects and methods. Emmelia is also the name of my baby daughter, who has been my constant inspiration since she was born.' - Evis Sammoutis.

Herrmann Schroeder (1904-1984), one of the most important church music composers of the 20th century, wrote this Latin mass in 1961, i.e. at the beginning of the Second Vatican Council. The Council marked a turning point in the field of church music: Masses in the respective native languages gained more and more acceptance, Gregorian chant faded into the background, stylistic features of popular music were also taken up in church music. Today, about 50 years after the beginning of the Council, one can see a return to Gregorian chant and polyphonic vocal music, and this is why even works such as Schroeder's Latin Missa melismatica arouse great interest again. The work takes the free intonation of the Gregorian chant as a starting-point and is enriched with wide-spun melodic arcs in elaborate polyphony, according to Schroeder's opinion that Gregorian chant and polyphony are particularly suitable for giving expression to the mysticism and irrationality of religious faith in the liturgy. A demanding work for good choirs, duration ca. 16 minutes.
