This composition reflects a colorful time in American history and is an opportunity for your band to discover ragtime rhythms. Folk hero Billy Miner (the Grey Fox) was the last of the old-time bandits. He was noted for his unusual politeness and is believed to be the originator of the phrase, Hands up! This composition is like a mini movie score and starts with the Billy Miner ragtime theme, followed by a train robbery, his capture, and final release. The artful interplay between sections gives this piece the sophisticated sound and intensity of a much more advanced work. Dur: 3:35.

Kiskiminetas is a Native American word that means to make daylight and was likely a command given to break camp and continue the journey. Paul Murtha's escriptive work for young players opens with a noble fanfare suggesting the break of day. A lyric section follows depicting scenic vistas along the path, and finally an exuberant adventure theme celebrates the conclusion of the journey. Nicely paced with plenty of variety.

DawnQuiet miles of golden sky,And in my heart a sudden flower.I want to clap my hands and sighFor Beauty in her secret bower. Quiet golden miles of dawnâ??Smiling all the East along; And in my heart nigh fully grown,A little rose-bud of a song.â??From â??Last Songsâ? by Francis LedwidgeDawn, radiant dawn! When morning comes my fears are gone.Daylight breaks, my soul awakes! And songs of Love sing on. â??Italics: Additional text by Jacob NarverudAbout the PoetFrancis Ledwidge (1887â??1917) was an Irish poet from Slane, County Meath. Ledwidge started writing at an early age and was first published in a local newspaper when he was fourteen years old. Ledwidge left the local national school shortly after and worked as a farm hand, road surface mender, and copper miner at Beaupark Mine near Slane. Ledwidge became friends with a local landowner, the writer Lord Dunsany, who gave him a workspace in the library of Dunsany Castle and introduced him to literary figures, including William Butler Yeats and Katherine Tynan. Some of Ledwidgeâ??s manuscripts are held in the National Library of Ireland. The main surviving collection, including his early works and personal letters, are in the archives of Dunsany Castle.

Robinson's TBB arrangement of this beloved Bennett madrigal, originally published for four voices in 1599, has been changed from the original key of A minor to the key of D minor, making the ranges and texture more characteristic for TBB voices. A wonderful concert or festival staple piece!.Weep, O Mine Eyes is a classic madrigal from the Renaissance period (circa 1400-1650). Although John Bennet's exact birth and death dates are unknown, we know that he was English and composed madrigals (non-sacred a cappella pieces) in the late 16th - early 17th centuries. Although, Bennet was not as prolific as other madrigal writers of the time, such as Thomas Morley, Weep, O Mine Eyes has certainly stood the test of time. Originally published in a book of 17 madrigals for four voices in 1599, this arrangement for TBB voices has been changed from the original key of A minor to the key of D minor, making the ranges and texture more characteristic for TBB voices. The original flavor of Bennet's four-part setting has been preserved, including the counterpoint (independent voices) where each voice is of equal importance. In Renaissance style no parts should over sing; the beauty of the melodic lines and text should come through and over singing will take away from the beauty. The EE vowel is sometimes problematic in the word weep. I suggest that you produce the EE vowel with OO on the lips and EE inside the mouth for better blend and to avoid a horizontal spreading of the vowel.
