Liebestod (German for Love Death) is the title of the final, dramatic music from the 1859 opera Tristan and Isolde by Richard Wagner. The music is actually an aria that Isolde sings over Tristan's dead body before she herself is consumed in death.

The music is lush, with rich harmonies and undulating rhythms as the agony of death is also meshed with the passion of love.

Randall Malmstrom has scored this 7-minute work for Trombone octet of advanced performers.

Respighi completed the 4-movement set of Biblical episodes titled Church Windows in 1925. He actually composed the music first and then added the titles, dispelling any theory of specific religious fervor on his part, but rather creating a general mood with the music.

St. Michael the Archangel, the “battle-scene” 2nd movement is about 6 minutes in length.

Mr. Malmstrom has once again shown his talent for arranging large works for Trombone octet. It is appropriate for advanced performers.

François Glorieux was born in Belgium in 1932, and acclaimed throughout Europe, the USA, Latin America, Canada, Japan, China, the Middle East and Africa. He is one of the most widely accomplished and versatile musicians traveling the international circuit today: pianist composer conductor, commentator, entertainer, honorary professor of chamber music at the Royal Music Conservatory of Ghent and guest professor at Yale University (USA). His particular art was the rare one of improvisation presented in five languages. Glorieux practices all musical styles and has been highly considered by great artists such as André Cluytens, Arthur Rubinstein, Yves Nat, Hiroyuki Iwaki, Enrique Jorda, Raphael Frühbeck de Burgos, but also Michael Jackson, Stan Kenton, Stéphane Grappelli, Paul McCartney, Toots Thielemans, Jacky Collins, Annie Girardot, Dionne Warwick, A.C. The OCTUOR in C, Op. 7, completed in 1900, took Romanian composer Georges Enesco (George Enescu; 1881-1955) one and a half years to write. It carves a different path from the celebrated octet by Mendelssohn in that, instead of favoring the 1st violin, the composer divides the melodic fabric equally between his musicians. The combined forces of the Geloso and Chailley Quartets gave the first performance on December 18, 1909 at the Salle des Agriculteurs in Paris. Speaking of its composition, Enescu declared that he fell into exhaustion from trying to keep the four movements from bursting apart due to their considerable length. Instrumentation: 4 Violins, 2 Violas, 2 Cellos (set as scored).
