English. Matthew 26:1.
This choral piece is intended for church or academic performance and is available only in this particular orchestrational setting. This composition is a fanfare-like setting of the following Biblical passage:“Hosanna to the Son of David.Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.Hosanna in the highest.”The work is structured as an “arch” form: exultant, rhythmic passages for instruments and voices to begin and conclude, with a passage of more lyrical and sustained character embedded within. The text would suggest compatibility for inclusion in an Easter service as well as for Palm Sunday.Duration: c. 4:00

Even for those unfamiliar with the chorale tune, this piece evokes the mood of the Good Friday events. Compton incorporated three statements of the choral tune: the first with a flowing eighth note accompaniment, the second with an extended use of handchimes, and the third with large block chords.
