My Spring Diary (Min Forårsdagbog) - Piano Pieces Vol. 2 by Karl Aage Rasmussen . Programme note In this, the second volume of My Spring Diary, which depicts the progress of the day from afternoon to night, the technical difficulties are generally greater than in vol. 1, and all the pieces are for piano solo. Freer use is made of the various types of notation which were introduced in the first volume. The 8 th piece (“Day’s End”) uses towards the end the type of notation called “open form”. The piece is a kind of musical resumé of the whole collection – elements of the earlier pieces reappear and at the end of the piecethe performer can exercise control over the way in which these elements are combined. The sequence of the individual groups is free, and it is not obligatory to play all of them. The only limitation is that the arrows within the individual groups must be followed and that the piece should end with the short passage marked “conclusion”. .

Fur Klavier sind 1961 entstanden. Jurg Wyttenbach hat sie im Januar 1962 in Basel uraufgefuhrt. Obschon die drei Stucke (uber Gedichte von Georg Trakl) ganz aus den spezifischen Eigenarten des klavierklangs heraus entstanden sind, habe ich 1963 versucht (quasi als Vorarbeit zu meinen szenischen Projekt 'Der magische Tanzer' 1963/65) diese 'Elis'-Musik aufs Orchester zu ubertragen.Besonders wichtig schien mir dabei, neben einer moglichst differenzierten Organisation der Klangfarben vor allem die in der Klavierfassung sehr wesentlichen Pedal-Resonanzen auszukomponieren. Die Orchesterfassung. Die Orchesterfassung hat Pierre Boulez 1964 mit dem Stockholmer Radioorchester uraufgefuhrt.1973 habe ich den 1966 neu komponierten Anfang des 2. Nachtstuckes ebenfalls orchestriert und vor allem die (durch die Verwendung indischer Rhythmen bedingte) metrische Gliederung der drei Stucke zu vereinfachen versucht.Den Stucken sind Motto folgende Verse aus Georg Trakls 'Elis'-Gedichten vorangestellt:I. 'Elis, wenn die Amsel im Schwarzen Walde ruft, Dieses ist dein Untergang.'(aus 'An den Knaben Elis')II. The electronics are three pre-recordings of music played in three different loudspeakers placed around the hall. The music in the loudspeakers has individual sonorities. The soloist plays with click track. Poul Ruders ' two Piano pieces Star Prelude And Love Fugue from 1990, expertly arranged for Saxophone Quartet by Jesper Nordin. Programme note Star Prelude and Love Fugue is the fruit of “a wonderful stay in Tokyo in March 1988” (the composer's words). The two pieces were composed in February 1990, and they are dedicated to Japanese pianist Aki Takahashi, who gave the premiere performance at the Lerchenborg Musikdage on 3 August 1990. The prelude is a fantasia on the prelude of Act Two of Poul Ruders' opera Tycho (1986), about Danish astronomer Tycho Brahe (which should explain the title). The theme of the Love Fugueis taken from the opening bars of anotherearlier Ruders' work, namely the a cappella motet Charitas Nunquam Excidit (which is Latin for “love never ceases”). The following fugue is purged of the genre's traditional gravitas, as is already signalled by the expression mark 'Swinging'. Its initial eleven bars quote the motet, but there after everything is newly composed. Per Erland Rasmussen, 2001.
