A suite for trumpet and piano in 3/4 time, recommended for the intermediate player. Minuet and Variations for Trumpet and Piano This minuet starts off with restrained elegance and then veers off into something with attitude, no longer quite baroque. There are few places to rest in this piece so good breath control is very important. Strive for precise articulation especially in the staccato passages, and a full, rich tone in the Tempo Primo section at Bar 30. Sarabande This piece was inspired by various classical works but it still has something of the Twentieth Century about it. You'll notice the B section suggests a minuet. If you can find moments to use a true, fully supported pianissimo it will help make this melody truly haunting. August Serenade This piece has a spritely main theme that introduces two quieter, more introspective melodies. The first theme again echoes a minuet while the second is more of a slow waltz. The main theme should be precise and fiery, the second played with a sweet elegance and the waltz filled with warmth and autumnal colours.

Introductory notes presented in Polish, German, and English. A piece that enjoys great popularity among string orchestras, the Serenade had its premiere on 15 IV 1897 in Berlin. It was played by the Berliner Philharmonisches Orchestra under the direction of H. Urban (then young 21-year-old Mieczyslaw Karlowiczs professor of composition). The piece consists consists of four parts, whose numbers and titles (March, Romance, Waltz, Finale) suggest affinities between Karlowiczs work and works by Mozart, Volkmann, Tchaikovsky and Dvorák then well-known in the music world. The music of the ''Serenade'' is a completely original creation, and in large parts of it allows us to feel Karlowiczs special lyrical expression. (Henryk Pawel Anders).

The Serenade for Strings is the Finale movement of the Suite and would pair well with the Waltzer. Each part is featured. To be played at a lively tempo.

Tchaikovsky spent the summer and autumn of 1880 at his sister's country estate in Kam'ianka, Ukraine, where he sought peace and relaxation. But after a short time the desire to work took hold of him again. “I'm sketching a symphony or string quintet just now; I don't know where it's going yet,†he wrote to his friend and patroness Nadezhda von Meck. In the end it turned out to be a Serenade for String Orchestra, which numbers among his most beautiful inspirations and is today a central work in the genre. The four movements captivate with their diverse moods – be it the Mozartian first movement “in the form of a sonatinaâ€, the elegant Waltz, the melancholy “Elegia†or the rousing Finale. For this new source-critical edition it was possible to consult the autograph in Moscow as well as the early printed editions into which Tchaikovsky sometimes entered a number of minor revisions. Saxophone Choir/Ensemble - 12-15 part. Optional Soprillo, Sopranino, 2 Soprano, 3 Alto, 3 Tenor, 2 Baritone, Bass, optional Contrabass, optional Subcontrabass. A complete, unabridged arrangement of Dvorak's Serenade for Strings Op. 22. In five movements, the first four are generally straightforward in form, exploring just one or two themes. The first is melodic and soaring, the second is an elegant waltz, the third is a blistering scherzo, while the fourth is a tranquil and wistful slow movement. The finale is more complex, starting out as a Bohemian peasant dance full off off-beat accents. Two other themes are developed in the course of the movement before a recap of the opening theme of the very first movement leads into a frenetic coda section. All parts take their share of the melodic interest right through this arrangement, which requires careful work to bring out the artistic shading in the work. A great addition to any concert situation.
