When Zinck's sonatas first appeared in print in 1783, the publication was greeted as exceptional by the best European critics: Their interesting melodic style, highly developed turns of phrase, great diversity of musical ideas unified into one great sonata style far removed from the routine, and finally, very descriptive tone painting, elevate them and make them worthy of the approval of connoisseurs.

Michael Haydn composed his four Sonatas for Violin and Viola in 1783, commissioned by the Salzburg archbishop. In fact, the archbishop ordered six sonatas, but Haydn fell ill and was not able to write the last two sonatas himself. As helper in need, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart aided his friend. He composed the two missing sonatas and agreed that they would be presented to the archbishop under the name of Haydn. While both sonatas by Mozart have found a wide distribution, the four compositions by Haydn nearly fell into oblivion and are made available again with this edition.Testimony of the friendship between M. Haydn und W. A. Mozart.

The second instalment of the three volume collection of Zinck’s complete keyboard music contains the printed sonatas which followed his enormously successful 1783 set together with the first appearance in print of two sonatas from a manuscript source in the Royal Library, Copenhagen. The published sonatas show Zinck’s mastery of the styles of both C.P.E. Bach (his teacher) and Haydn, while the manuscript works are simpler in their technical demands, but include original fingering from the composer. All the sonatas in this volume would be effective on either clavichord or fortepiano.

Michael Haydn (1737-1806), younger brother of Josef Haydn, had been in the employ of Colloredo, Archbishop in Salzburg as Court Composer and Leader (Concertmaster) of the court orchestra. In 1783, he was commissioned - or a better word perhaps - ordered by Colloredo to compose a series of six duets for violin and viola. Due to serious illness, he was unable to complete the series. Haydn was concerned that the Archbishop would cancel his fee. Haydn asked his friend Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791) to complete the work by writing the remaining two duets. Mozart composed the duets in a few days, in time to meet the Archbishop's timeline. For this reason, all six duets were delivered under Michael Haydn's name. The present edition is the first that reunites the six duets - naturally with the correct attributions. Included in volume 1: 4. Duet in B flat Major K 424 (W.A. Mozart); 5. Sonata Nr. 3 in F Major MH 337 (M. Haydn); 6. Sonata Nr. 4 in E Major MH 338 (M. Haydn).

This is an updated edition of Francis Poulenc 's 1962 work Sonata For Oboe And Piano , edited by Millan Sachania . Featuring the full score and a separate Oboe part, this exclusive edition also includes a download card, giving you instant online access to demonstration and accompaniment tracks. Originally completed in 1962, Poulenc 's Sonata For Oboe And Piano had been brewing in his mind for at least five years. The last of Poulenc 's trio of sonatas for woodwind instruments, he tragically passed away before it could be definitively engraved, leaving behind a work with a number of ambiguous notational marks that resulted in an incomplete first edition, publishedposthumously. A number of revisions have taken place, but this, expertly edited by Millan Sachania , aims to provide a playable, legible, precise and authoritative score that reflect closest Poulenc 's intentions. This new edition revises many minor details, including Piano chords, tied notes, the correction of various bars throughout as well as his crescendos during the third movement. At all points, Sachania has aimed to reproduce an authoritative and accurate score that is at once playable and a reflection of what Poulenc himself may have intended. This is a most exciting prospect considering the reputation that this work has garnered as a piece of profound poignancy. Dedicated to Sergey Prokofiev, it has been said that the mournful final movement, Deploration , is something of an obituary. What makes this edition of Sonata For Clarinet And Piano really special is the unique download card that provides exclusive online access to demonstration and accompaniment audio tracks. Professionally-recorded by renowned oboist Christopher Cowie and pianist Huw Watkins, the demonstration track allows you to hear exactly how the piece as a whole should sound, before the independent Piano-only track lets you take the place of the Oboe in your very own performance. This is a unique opportunity for oboists to learn from an authoritative.
