Im Zeitalter der Technik, der Maschinen und dem Wunsch, alles messbar und damit erfassbar zu machen, liegt fur mich die assoziative Verknupfung einer ,,Traumerei mit einem EEG (=Elektroenzephalogramm) sehr nahe. Die Ruckfuhrung der Hirnstromaktivitaten auf Traume ist meine kunstlerische Freiheit, keine medizinische Interpretation. Ich habe mich dabei aber nicht auf eine ,,inhaltliche Nacherzahlung eines moglichen Traumes eingelassen, sondern habe graphische Auffalligkeiten der EEG-Diagramme als Anregungen fur meine Kompositionen genommen. Im Stuck ,,Herzspur wird der Umstand kompositorisch verarbeitet, dass die sich am unteren Ende des Diagramms befindliche ,,Herzspur unverandert bleibt, unabhangig davon, was sich die bei den ,,Hirnspuren mehr oder weniger aufregendes tut. Im 3. Stuck werden die nicht zur Ruhe kommenden Hirnaktivitaten in die Mittelstimmen des Klaviers gelegt, wahrend die Aussenstimmen eine ubergeordnete Kontur entstehen lassen.

The scoring of Schubert's “Auf dem Strom†(On the River) for voice, horn and piano is reminiscent of that of the “Hirt auf dem Felsen†(Shepherd on the Rock) with obligato clarinet. Both pieces were written in 1828 and each one upon a musician's request – in this case that of the horn player Rudolf Lewy. Schubert gave the first performance of Auf dem Strom with the latter and the tenor Ludwig Tietze on March 26, 1828 in Vienna. It was such a success that it was soon performed again, and the press raved about it being an “indescribable treat for the earsâ€. This popular work is now available in a handy format for singers, with, of course, parts for horn in E as well as a transposition for horn in F. Includes an additional horn part in F and an additional cello part.

Four poems from The Sorrow Gondola by Tomas Transtromer.
