No Stone Could Hold Him is a spirited witness to the ministry, passion, death, and resurrection of Jesus, the Rock of our Salvation. Written by celebrated composer Lloyd Larson, this powerful work is filled with scripture-based images of Jesus as A Rock in a Weary Land, even when tempted by Satan to turn these stones to food; as the Solid Rock on which we stand through Winds of Change and Shifting Sand; as Jerusalem's triumphant King who commands the rocks to keep silent; as the Cornerstone of our faith, betrayed and crucified; and as the risen Savior whom no stone could hold in the tomb. Inspired by these images, the music is bold and enlivening with rousing original music alongside energetic spirituals and gospel songs. This dramatic work is an exceptional choice for Easter worship with its seven choruses and options for duets and solos. It can also be performed during the Lenten season or Holy Week by omitting the final chorus.

This piece attempts to portray atmospheric pictures through music. The opening section evokes the somewhat misty and hazy early morning atmosphere surrounding the ancient monument. When the band reaches its first dynamic climax it is as if the massive boulders are audible, even touchable through the use of minor 3rd chords. The main theme - constructed on the notes CAFBG symbolises the arrangement of the central boulders in the shape of a horseshoe, which forms the focal point of this huge collection of stones. Towards the end of the work you will experience a fantastic effect when five soloists play a five part hymn whilst other members of the band create a specialatmosphere by imitating a choir of monks and druids. A fantastic major new concert work for advanced bands.

[1.1.1.1 - 1.0.0.0 - Timp.Vib - Pf - Str]The piece was composed in 2012 as musical comment on a succession of images and, according to the composer’s statements, to get young people close to a guided listening of music. The captions in the score stimulate the research of pictures or videos that correspond with the description, developing at the same time an attentive listening in young people, first addressees of the work. The educational aim places this track next to the most remarkable cornerstones of musical literature intended for a young audience. At the beginning the composition was conceived for a quartet: two mandolins, mandola/mandoloncello, and guitar, because the composer wanted young people to approach to plectrum instruments. At the end of 2019 the refined orchestra version saw the light and now the one for plectrum orchestra as well.A composition to study, perform and listen in all its versions.(Gaetano Panariello).

Harri Viitanen's three passions are the organ, nature and the stars, and he combines the first two of these in Images d'oiseaux. The birdsongs which function as an important element in the work were studied from recordings made in the vicinity of Viitanen's home: they are the nightingale, pied fly-catcher, blackbird and great tit. The work is written for a three or four-manual instrument with the addition of two clicking stones which contribute to the birdsong effects.

Glitter and glamour, good-looking people, a lot of Bling Bling and fast cars images like these will cross our minds when we think of the movie world. However, reality proves to be different : as a rule, a tremendous amount of work will have been done on the set before a film is ready to be shown on the big screen. A visit to an actual movie set inspired John Emerson Blackstone to write a composition bearing the same name. He had both seen a number of characteristic attributes and heard the typical phrases used in film making, and he incorporated them into ‘On the Movie Set’ . In the first part, ‘The Clapboard’, a ‘director’s assistant’ is supposed to shout “Quieton the set’” and “Action!”, as is done before a real scene is shot. Subsequently, in order to create the right atmosphere, the clacking of a ‘Clapboard’ should be heard. During a romantic scene we should be transported to another world by means of sweet sounds in the background, so romantic music is of course heard in the next part, ‘Love Scene’. At the end of a long working day ‘It’s a wrap’ is called on the set to inform everyone that the filming on that day is completed. Now there is only one more thing left to dream of : an Oscar..... Perf. Note: The use of the right props will add to the performance and appreciation of ‘On the Movie Set’. A red carpet and a glamorous reception should give your audience the feeling they are attending a real ‘opening night’! Perf. Note: Het gebruik van de juiste rekwisieten zalde uitvoering en waardering van ‘On the Movieset’ ten goede komen.

2,1 2,1 2,1 2,1; 4331; timp, perc(3), cel, hp; stgs Duration: 11' Composed: 2013 Published by: Subito Music Publishing Performance materials available on rental: Alas! Babylon’s Final Sunset is another installment in my series of works that musically comment on the biblical books of Daniel and Revelation. The principal source of inspiration for this works comes from the 18th chapter of the book of Revelation. This chapter states that the career of Babylon the Great is finally coming to an end. The music begins with a mysterious pianissimo tremolo accompanied by tam-tam and bass drum. The initial flourishes in the oboes and English horn serve as the principal motive of warning. As the music continues, there are varying degrees of agitation among the strings and woodwinds. Throughout the work there are rhythmic motives in the brass, percussion, and various woodwind instruments that sing and speak Babylon is Fallen in triple meter. As the tutti ensemble arrives at a climax, the orchestral texture becomes thinner and slightly transparent. As the music continues, the opening motive returns in the oboes, however the counterpoint produces a series of solo laments. These passages are intended to provide picturesque images of these words: And the voice of harpers, and musicians, and of pipers, and trumpeters, shall be heard no more at all in thee; and no craftsman, of whatsoever craft he be, shall be found any more in thee; and the sound of a millstone shall be heard no more at all in thee; And the light of a candle shall shine no more at all in thee. and the voice of the bridegroom and of the bride shall be heard no more at all in thee: for thy merchants were the great men of the earth; for by thy sorceries were all nations deceived. And in her was found the blood of prophets, and of saints, and of all that were slain upon the earth. Rev. 18:22-24 The following passages musically comment on the historical career of Babylon with a sense of her impending destruction. The series of laments transforms into the more emphatic rhythmic motive Babylon is Fallen. The orchestral texture begins to become more condense, once again, with the initial flourishes of, but with notable variations. Finally, the celesta, harp, oboes, English horn, and strings sing profundities that are finally transformed into a minor mode tonality that fades away with the ringing of the tam-tam. Babylon has finally seen her last sunset.

Finnish composer Helvi Leiviskä (1902-1982) created a broad-based output of orchestral works, solo songs and chamber music. Her style could be described as moderate modernism, deriving influences from multiple sources such as late Romanticism, Symbolism, Expressionism, Existentialism and Neo-Classicism. Leiviskä's output is characterised by philosophical and religious themes, images of nature and narrative structures. Many of her works focus on human existential angst and spiritual searching and growth.Helvi Leiviskä originally completed her Piano Quartet in A major op. 1 in 1926 but revised it a decade later, in 1935. Written for the traditional piano quartet lineup (violin, viola, cello and piano), the work is in three movements and has a duration of about 25 minutes. It features religious and ecstatic imagery such as may be found in French, German or Russian neo-Romantic styles.Leiviskä's Piano Quartet is considered one of the cornerstones of her chamber music output. Its early version was premiered in two parts at student recitals of the Helsinki Music Institute (the 1st movement in 1925 and the 2nd and 3rd movements in 1926). The revised version was performed in full by Timo Mikkilä (piano), Sulo Aro (violin), Ilmo Ranta (viola) and Pentti Rautawaara (cello) on Finnish radio in 1939. The work was also on the programme of Leiviskä's second composition concert in 1945, being performed on that occasion by Jussi Jalas (piano), Erik Cronvall (violin), Erik Karma (viola) and Yrjö Selin (cello). Two commercial recordings have been released (Finlandia Classics 2012 and Telos Music 2016). It is published for the first time 2022 with an extensive foreword by Susanna Välimäki. The product includes the full score (piano part) and a set of string parts.Duration: c. 25'. Have a look inside by clicking sample.
