Ralph Sauer has beautifully edited Volume I of the Milde Concert Studies. They will add much to the Trombone study/etude literature. We look forward to many performers using these valuable studies to improve their technique and musicianship.Originally written for the bassoon, these studies were favorites of the great trombone teacher, Emory Remington (1891-1971). While perhaps not “concert†material, they provide much more musical interest than the typical etude book.bBr />I have added dynamics and changed phrasings to be more suitable for the trombone while keeping the wide tessitura and the many clef changes of the original. Alternate positions are included to make the music more fluid. I have not indicated whether an alternate position is to be played slightly higher or lower. The trombonist should know what adjustments are needed, and adding the small sharps or flats would only clutter the notation. These enjoyable and challenging studies will provide many hours of pleasurable practice. I have returned to these two volumes often over the years and hope that you will also find them useful and rewarding.Ralph Sauer.

Progressive studies is the second volume of the series Sixty Studies for Violin, written by Auguste Samie and edited by G. Catherine. Containing twenty studies, this volume should help upper beginners / intermediate violinists to play with the first and third positions more naturally. An increasing difficulty can be perceived in term of rhythm and tempo. This volume is completed by 'Dainty Studies' (Volume 1) and 'Melodic Studies' (Volume 3)..

Forty-Eight Virtuoso Studies, Vol. 2 by Marcel Moyse is the second and last volume of this series, tailored to upper-advanced flautists. Highly complex and challenging, this volume features 23 pieces, the studies 25 to 48, and will help the flautist to master and perfect their technique. It is a must-have for those who want to keep improving at higher levels. Considered as a maestro by his peers, Marcel Moyse has composed many flute methods and exercise books also published by Alphonse Leduc, such as, for the same level, 12 Studies in Virtuoso After Chopin and 10 Studies After Wieniawsky. His methods are widely used and recognised worldwide.

Born in Tunisia in 1952, Christian Lauba has been a prominent contemporary composer, winning many prizes since his graduation from the Conservatory of Bordeaux during the mid-1980s. Lauba is particularly noted for his compositions and teaching guides for the Saxophone, such as Nine Studies for Saxophones. Composed betweem 1992 and 1994, Nine Studies for Saxophones won Lauba the SACEM prize in composition. The second volume, for Soprano and Tenor Saxophones contains the fifth, sixth and seventh studies; 1) Tadj, 2) Gyn, and 3) Vir. Nine Studies for Saxophones is very modern in style, exploiting extended techniques of the Saxophone to the maximum. These include articulation, modes, complex rhythms, ornamentation, tonality, harmonics, vibrato, resonance and flutter tonguing, among other aspects. With modern classical music becoming more and more prominent within the genre, Lauba's Nine Studies for Saxophones is essential to all saxophonists..

Bartók's Mikrokosmos has been one of the milestones in pedagogical piano repertoire for 80 years - and yet it is also far more than a classical piano primer. These 153 piano pieces, organized in ascending order of difficulty, engage not only with technical aspects of piano playing but also with the fundamentals of composition - from Imitation and Inversion, Ostinato, and Free Variations, concerning compositional technique, to mood pieces and pieces with programmatic ideas such as Notturno, Boating, From the Diary of a Fly, or the famous Six Dances in Bulgarian Rhythm. Mikrokosmos first appeared in 1940 in six volumes. Based on volume 40 of the Bartók CompleteEdition published in 2020(Z. 15040), the present Urtext edition offers the series gathered in three volumes. This edition includes Bartók's preface, exercises, and notes written for the first edition. Furthermore, it also features a preface and comments by the editor, which not only discuss the genesis and the compositional sources but also provide performers, teachers and pupils alike, with authentic and detailed information about Bartók's notation and the specific performing problems of Mikrokosmos.
