Break-Dance is an obvious next of kin to the two Clarinet trios Vox In Rama and Tattoo For Three. This piece, however, combines the roaring despair of the first trio with the twisted rhythmical display of the latter. The title, of course, is a reference to the modern street-dance electric boogie, but the very music itself takes the naming most literally indeed: formally and rhythmically, after a straightforward head-on opening, it breaks into isolated, jagged fragments, winding up in a bouncing piano cadenza. Albeit not an obvious piano concerto, the piano part hovers in the front line, the same way the horizontal guy, ringing himself on the pavement, is doubtless an eye-catcher to passers-by. The springy 'body-language' that kicks off the piece suddenly stiffens and freezes into hard-edged blocks and the real 'dance of breaks' emerges into focus. Break-dance is commissioned by and dedicated to Yvar Mikhashoff and Spectrum. Arranged for 2 Trumpets, 3 Trombones, and Piano.

Robert Barron, Auxiliary Bishop of Los Angeles Fr. Rob Galea's story reveals what happens when God is allowed to break through our little, personal worlds. It is the story of a dynamic, young, comitted Catholic priest, singer, and performer, and a testimony to the Mighty One who continues to do great things in the lives of young women and men today. —Rev. Thomas Rosica, C.S.B., CEO of the Salt and Ligh Catholic Media Foundation Fr. Rob bears his heart and soul in Breakthrough. ABOUT THE MUSIC Future of Tomorrow (Concert March) was commissioned by the Arts Education Branch, Ministry of Education as the set piece for the Singapore Youth Festival 2016 Arts Presentation for Concert and Brass Bands (Primary Level). This march uses brief excerpts from the well-known Malay folk songs Katak Lompat and Rasa Sayang. Our youths are indeed our future of tomorrow. This joyful-themed march aims to bring out the best in each of your young players. I hope that students, band directors and audiences will enjoy preparing, performing and listening to this work. EDUCATIONAL NOTES Key: Eb Major SECTION BARS EVENT / SCORING / SUGGESTIONS Introduction 1-4 Opens in Eb major with dotted rhythm motif. 1st Strain 5-20 Take note of melodic phrasing above the (light) oom-pah ostinato; melody repeats at m. 13 with the addition of countermelody in the inner lines; although written at mf dynamic, this anew ideaa needs to be heard clearly for contrast with the previous statement. 2nd Strain 21-36 C minor (relative minor); excerpt from Katak Lompat; melody in the lower brass/wind from m. 21 with a contrasting attitude/style from 1st strain; back to a more lyrical treatment from m. 29. Trio 37-56 Stays unmodulated in the same key; opens with a percussion solo feature before the start of the softer Trio theme; keep this section controlled and be sensitive to the balance; the metallic timbre of the muted trumpet/cornet needs to be heard clearly (might suggest to bring the dynamic level up to mf when muted); if cued-notes are played, make sure they are played throughout the melodic phrase as written to avoid awkward leaps. Break Strain 57-62 Excerpt from Rasa Sayang with some play in tonality and instrumental dialogue; quasi grandioso-style before the final strain. Final Strain 63-82 Back to Eb major with the reprise of the Trio theme; festive-like style with fuller orchestration and new countermelodies; dotted rhythm motif from the introduction concludes the march in a codetta-like section from m. 79. NOTE TO THE CONDUCTOR This march has been carefully written with reasonable technicalities and range in mind for younger players. Generally, optional cued notes in parenthesis are given for less experienced players who have yet to develop their range on the instrument. However, they should never be taken as an easy alternative for all players in the section; otherwise, this may result in a less than ideal flow of the musical lines. Marches are good tools to train tempo consistency, articulation and rhythmic precision as well as musical phrasing. I hope that there will be great learning opportunities for your students as they learn this piece. This march is separately orchestrated for both wind and brass bands to maximize the instrumental colors within each ensemble. The parts are therefore not exchangeable between the wind band and brass band sets. I wish you the best in the performance of this work. - Benjamin Yeo.ABOUT THE MUSIC Future of Tomorrow (Concert March) was commissioned by the Arts Education Branch, Ministry of Education as the set piece for the Singapore Youth Festival 2016 Arts Presentation for Concert and Brass Bands (Primary Level). Splintered and rich in reference as Tippett's operas are in their music and in their text, they carry at their heart a glowing confidence in the power ofhuman beings to find a centre and, from that centre, to sing. In The Ice Break that confidence has a global reach. The settings are anonymous: an airportlounge, a hospital, the street. For the first time since The Midsummer Marriage, Tippett uses a chorus, here to represent the mass of humanity, whose divisions are pointed in the central cast: divisions between generations, between sexes, between races, between exile and native. Lev arrives in a new world to join his wife Nadia, who had emigrated with their baby son, Yuri. Also at the airport are Yuri's girlfriend Gayle and her friend Hannah, there to meet the black 'champion', Olympion together with his fans. Out of a series of violent tensions, individual and collective, there develops a riot in which Olympion and Gayle are killed and Yuri is near-fatally wounded. Nadia dies peacefully. During an interlude in which a group attempts a psychadelic 'trip', the messenger, Astron, is mistaken for God - a claim he dismisses ironically. Yuri is operated on by Luke, a young doctor, and, released from the cracking plaster, he finds reconciliation with his father.(Paul Griffiths)2 (2pic).2.ca.2 (Ebcl)*bcl.2.cbn-4.2.3.1-timp.7perc (s.d., t.d., b.d., slit dr., 5 tuned dr., jazz kit, timbales, bng., cym., sus.cym., w.bl., t.bl., cast., wh., tri., large tri., sleigh bells, flexatone, tam-tam, xyl., vib., glock., tub.bells, claves, guiro, glass chimes, bamboo wind chimes, metal bar, wind machine)-hrp.pno.cel.electric organ.egtr.bgtr-str.

Book 5 of the Sing Out! series features wonderful new choral arrangements of five top pop tunes, all arranged by renowned Vocal Coach and Choral Director extraordinaire Mark De-Lisser. Each song has been beautifully arranged for SAT chorus, the unison harmonies totally reinvigorating these favourite pop songs. From the classic rock anthem of the 1980s in Toto's Africa , to the modern pop heartbreaker All Of Me by John Legend, these are great songs with even greater arrangements. The unabashed positivity of Nico & Vinz's Am I Wrong makes a fantastic counterpart to the optimism in the face of pain represented by the arrangement of the traditional gospel song Take MyHand, Precious Lord , a tune used to wonderfully affecting effect in the recent film 'Selma'. Finally, this fresh pop choral setlist is rounded off nicely with Ed Sheeran's Thinking Out Loud , a beautiful love song in which the power and emotion of the words will enhance the performance. Arranged for SAT (Soprano/Alto/Tenor) Choir, these songs are designed to be sung to backing tracks, but Piano accompaniments and Guitar chord boxes are included for rehearsal purposes, or if you wish to perform with a live band. Aside from De-Lisser's incredible arrangements, this pack includes an innovative and user-friendly download card with performance backing tracks, full demonstrations and individual rehearsal tracks of each Vocal part recorded by members of ACM Gospel Choir. Helpful hints for performing each piece are also included in this book, giving you everything you need to learn these well-loved songs. Mark De-Lisser is a celebrated Vocal Coach and Choral Director, who has been featured on BBC1's 'Last Choir Standing'. His extensive introduction and notes within this songbook bring a personal touch, as De-Lisser really is passionate about getting people singing, improvising and, most of all, enjoying themselves. The new Choral arrangements of these fantastic pop tracks are ideal for spicing up a performance with these.
