Leonard Garrison’s edition of Telemann‘s 12 FANTASIAS is a remarkable compendium of resources. Every repeated section is written out with ornaments provided on the repeats. Garrison’s prefatory sections on style elements, performance practice, and specifics of each Fantasia work in tandem with the edition to prompt elegant and historically informed performance. Garrison based his ornamentation style largely on Telemann’s Methodical Sonatas which indicate the standard notation of the melody line, with an ornamented version printed below – an invaluable window into authentic performance practice. In addition, the complete authentic Telemann manuscript is also provided in this publication, and Garrison’s recording of the 12 FANTASIAS is available on a CD from Centaur Records.

The composer and organist Paul Siefert, baptized in Gdansk on 28 June 1586 and died there on 6 May 1666, belongs to the 'North German organ school'. Thanks to a grant of the town council of Gdansk, Siefert spent the years from 1607 until probably late 1610 studying in Amsterdam where he got important ideas and suggestions as a pupil of Sweelinck. After his return he became deputy organist in Gdansk. From 1611 to 1616 he worked as an organist first at the church in the old town of Konigsberg, then at the Warsaw court orchestra. On 23 September 1623 he was appointed organist at the Marienkirche of Gdansk in succession to Michael Weyda where he worked until the end of his life. This edition of his organ works contains 13 fantasias, two chorale preludes and a motet as well as a detailed description of the work in the preface and in the critical report.

His preface informs about the genesis of the work, discusses the scoring, and comments on stylistic and formal aspects. The former Musica-Rara edition of the 12 Fantasias has been revised by the editor and is now supplied with a better facsimile.

Heinrich Scheidemann is regarded as one of the most influential organists of the 17th century. His most significant achievement lies within his further developing of his teacher J. P. Sweelinck's chorale arrangements into a wide-ranging chorale fantasia primarily to display in full the organ's sound. The present volume constitutes a complete edition of all nine Chorale Fantasias based on Lutheran chorales that, except for one, are extant as individual works. The authenticity of six fantasias is considered certain, with the attribution of the three anonymously transmitted works being based on the source situation and style. The repertoire as a whole provides an insight into the progressive development of the chorale fantasia and concurrently represents Scheidemann's three main creative phases.

The seven chorale fantasias by Max Reger are among the most important of organ repertoire ? masterpieces blending chorale melody and programmatic music based on the text of the chorales.
Published on the occasion of the composer's 150th birthday, this fundamentally revised Urtext edition, in two volumes, is edited by the internationally renowned organist and Leipzig professor of organ Martin Schmeding.
As one of the most influential Reger interpreters, Schmeding not only includes the latest research, but also addresses the need for a contemporary interpretation of the chorale fantasias on modern organs. The edition includes all the original dynamic and agogic indications (including continuation lines to cresc., etc., which are missing in many modern editions), as well as all the original registration and manual indications.
Martin Schmeding's new edition provides for the first time an original musical text that combines the requirements of a modern Urtext edition with the demands of a practical edition.
