The clarinet method op. 63 by Carl Baermann from 1867 is still a standard work in classical clarinet education today. The thoroughly revised new edition aims at reviewing the educational concept, which is still valid today, for modern lessons, adjusting the music and texts, and sensibly complementing the teaching contents.The editor who draws on many years of experience as a clarinettist in an orchestra and university lecturer of clarinet has succeeded in adapting the valuable teaching material to the requirements of today while maintaining the basic methodology. The content of the text and the performance directions of the original were linguistically modernized and occasionally extended by further ideas from the teaching practice, such as concepts for warming up, breathing exercises, literature suggestions or tips for daily practising. Further additions of scale and triad studies in all major and minor keys make this method a comprehensive and thorough work of study which not only serves as teaching material for young and adult beginners, but is also a valuable compendium of scale exercises and studies for advanced musicians and is ideal for training velocity and dexterity.The Clarinet Method Vols. 1 and 2 contain not only scales and technical fingering exercises but also Baermann's popular performance pieces, like Romanze (No. 14), which are ideal as performance pieces, yet at the same time train both technique and musical expressiveness. From '44 Duos For Two Violins'. Par BARTOK BELA. Béla Bartók (1881-1945) composed his 44 Duos for Two Violins in 1931. These unique musical miniatures combine folk melodies from Eastern Europe with the musical language of the twentieth century in an exciting blend of tradition and modernity. For the present edition Marcin Langer arranged twenty of these duos for Bb clarinets. The pieces allow players to share the pleasure of chamber music while exploring this fascinating sound world. All the duos sound at the original pitch and can thus be performed by a clarinet and violin. Most of the duets can also be played by a clarinet and alto saxophone combination (nos. 1, 5, 6, 7, 8, 12, 13, 16, 17). Par MAENPAA ROOPE. Roope Mäenpää's Lähi (Finnish for ?near?, ?close by?) for violin and clarinet was composed for Anna Angervo and Janne Pesonen in a situation when the COVID-19 pandemic had shut down most of the society in the spring 2020. Lähi is a diary-entry like vignette, a picture of a moment, of the fear and anxiety caused by the sudden situation - but also a sounding memory of intimacy and closeness. Duration: c. 4'. The form of the piece is relatively simple, opening with a lyrical melody over a repetitive and somewhat rhythmic accompaniment. The middle section modulates to the key of the flattened 6th scale degree (B-flat major), using this to arrive at the dominant chord, in which there are some pseudo cadenza-like moments. Following this, a return to the opening melody with a slightly modified accompaniment, and subsequently a brief coda. To better accommodate the bass clarinet, the entire piece has been transposed up a half-step from the original version into a morecomfortable key of E-flat major. Additionally, for much of the piece, the solo part has been lowered by an octave, as to make the piece generally more accessible to students. Should there be a desire to hear the piece more in the range of the original version, one could simply play it on a standard B-flat clarinet to achieve this effect. Though only about four minutes in length, this relatively short vignette captures much of the true essence of Saint-Saëns, not only through the harmonic progressions and accompanimental figures used, but also demonstrating his gift of turning a 'simple' melody into something extraordinary.
