Friedrich Wilhelm Stade (* 25 August 1817 in Halle ; † 24 March 1902 in Altenburg ) was a German organist , conductor and composer .
Stade was a student of Friedrich Schneider in Dessau and later became Kapellmeister of Bethmann troupe. In 1845, he came as university music director after Jena , was here Honorary Doctorate of Arts and then worked since 1860 in Altenburg as Kapellmeister . Here he provided a big boost in the music world and for a new building of the theater, which he in 1871 with a performance of Freischütz by Carl Maria von Weber inaugurated.
Stade was an outstanding organist, particularly strong in the art of improvisation . He was also a conductor, who has brought a large number of neglected works of ancient and modern times in honor. Among his compositions there are symphonies , overtures and incidental music , but it is only a few psalms been printed. Better known are his songs, of which the castles on the mountains is that time has become popular. With Rochus Freiherr von Liliencron Stade was a collection of songs and proverbs from the last time the minnesong out (Weimar 1854). But also in the processing of Handel's and Bach's sonatas he has rendered outstanding services.
Wilhelm Stade died on March 24, 1902 in Altenburg. In Jena, a street is named after him. (Hide extended text) ... (Read all)
