This work is a close-up of the encounters and relationships of trust between people, following the idea that friendship lasts forever.†After the passing of Satoshi Yagisawa’s close friend and work partner, Tsutomu Murata, a designer of Neo Create in August 2020, the composer began work on this piece. Murata performed music for audiences primarily as a leader and conductor of Kurume City Brass, a group which is active in Fukuoka Prefecture in Japan. Eternal Frienship depicts a five-minute chorale which explores “how music can convey that a close friend is indispensable to you, more broadly, everyone to someone,†much like how Murata conveyed the appeal of music to his audiences. Under the direction of the composer himself, the work had its world premiere and was recorded with the Kobe College Wind Orchestra.

In 1989, the demonstration named the Baltic Way also known as the Baltic Chain— was held in the Baltic states of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania by its citizens in a call for independence from the Soviet Union. On 23rd August 1989, some two million participants formed a human chain, hand-in-hand all the way from the Estonian capital of Tallinn its Latvian counterpart, Riga, through to the Lithuanian capital of Vilnius - six hundred kilometres long. It became the longest human chain ever created and turned out to be the final push needed for much sought-after independence. This historic event became the source of inspiration for this composition. The introduction of thefirst movement, ‘Struggle for Independence’, is based on a nocturne for piano by the renowned Lithuanian composer and painter Mikalojus Konstantinas iurlionis (1875-1911), thematic material from which has been incorporated throughout the whole composition. The melancholic beginning is followed by a powerful theme which reflects the resolve of the Baltic people. The sudden aggressive, dissonant chords and a dominant and—in rhythmic terms—contrary bass drum announce that the resistance is not going smoothly. Just for a moment, we hear the anthem of the Soviet Union in the lower brass, but this is relentlessly pushed to the background by the rest of the band playing the Lithuanian national anthem, ‘Tautiška giesm ’ (Lithuania, our homeland). The second movement, ‘Decades of Suffering’, echoes life under the Soviet Union's thumb. In the pursuit of independence, a peaceful protest is planned in which a human chain is formed across the Baltic states of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. This ‘Chain of Freedom’ is depicted in the final movement of the work.

Le Lion de Belfort was composed for the official inauguration of the sculpture Le Lion de Belfort: an enormous red sandstone lion that dominates the landscape of the French city of Belfort. This 22 metre long and 11 metre high lion symbolises the heroic French resistance during the Prussian siege of Belfort in 1870-1871. The composer added a narrator and three-part choir to the concert band instrumentation, who utilise texts written specially for the occasion by Jean Ehret. The work’s première took place at the inauguration of Le Lion de Belfort on 28 November 2010, 130 years after sculptor Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi (1834-1904) completed the statue. What do the American Joseph Kittinger and the Austrian Felix Baumgartner have in common? They both jumped from over 3km high with a parachute. While Kittingers attempt on 16 August 196 was from a height of 'only' 31,333 meters, Felix Baumgartner broke this record on 14 October 212 with a breath-taking 38,969 meters. This composition Stratosphere describes the adventure, from climbing into the capsule with help of a balloon, to the short pause in the stratosphere, and the jump, the turbulence during the free-fall descent, and finally the opening of the parachute and the safe landing.

The Austro-Hungarian composer Erwin Schulhoff (1894-1942) was musically precocious: At the suggestion of AntonÃn Dvorák, he receivedpiano lessons at the age of seven, and at the age of ten became a student at the Prague Conservatory. Further piano studies in Vienna, Cologne and Leipzig as well as composition lessons with Max Reger supplemented his education. His Jewish heritage, which defamed his music as “degenerateâ€, and his sympathy for communism, however, cost him his life. In Prague and finally interned in Wülzburg near Weissenburg in Bavaria, he died of tuberculosis. Schulhoff's musical significance lies in the integration of jazz into art music, for example in his oratorio H.M.S. Royal Oak or in his Hot Sonata for alto saxophone and piano. He earned his living as a jazz pianist for a long time. In August 1922 he wrote four short piano pieces, his Rag Music, to which he added four more phrases in November: released as Partita, also known as Jazz-like Partita - with the fashion dances Ragtime, Foxtrott, Shimmy, Boston and - as No. 7 - a tango. From a piano to a string quartet movement, the arrangement presents itself as a delicate and smart, technically not too difficult sweet, suitable as a diversion or addition in a quartet program.

John Luther Adams' The Light That Fills the World for Chamber Ensemble (6 players). Duration: 13 minutes. The Light That Fills the World was written in late winter and early spring when - following the long darkness of winter - the world is still white and filled with new light. If the unrelenting texture of this music embodies stasis, I hope its prevalent tone evokes the ecstatic. The title of the piece is borrowed from an Inuit song which sings of the close relationship between beauty and terror, risk and revelation. - John Luther Adams, Fairbanks, Alaska, August 1999 Includes Score and parts plus spiral-bound keyboard part.

The principal post-Romantic Danish composer, Carl Nielsen, was born in 1865, the son of a painter and village musician. Childhood experience as an amateur performer led to subsidised study at the Copenhagen Conservatory and a long career during which he developed his own personal style of composition, in particular in a series of important symphonies. This string quartet includes score and parts.
