There are many piano arrangements of this well-known and hugely popular piece of classical music, however this arrangement is actually a transcription for solo piano, based entirely on the original handwritten manuscript. The music was written for three violins and basso continuo (cello and harpsichord accompaniment), which inevitably gives the pianist's fingers plenty of work to do (not unlike a Bach fugue in places) but the end result is very effective. Advanced pianists will have no problem adding their own personal fingering, which has been deliberately omitted for that very reason.

Johann Pachelbel (1653 ? 1706) was a German composer, organist, and teacher who brought the south German organ schools to their peak. He composed a large body of sacred and secular music, and his contributions to the development of the chorale prelude and fugue have earned him a place among the most important composers of the middle Baroque era.
