Full Orchestra - Level 5 - SKU: A0.730451 Composed by James Nathaniel Holland. Broadway,Contemporary,Musical/Show,Opera. 269 pages. James Nathaniel Holland #3538241. Published by James Nathaniel Holland (A0.730451). INDIVIDUAL INSTRUMENT PARTS Only (Full Score, Vocal Piano Score sold separately). Does not include vocal parts. O HOLY ART A Tragic Opera in One Act (Opera in English) (Opera duration: 1 hour and 20 minutes) Libretto and Music by James Nathaniel Holland  Combine with Holland operas called A New York Triptych The Discontented Housewife (Farce) and The One Upstairs (comedy) (both sold separately) for a full length evening of fun and accessible American contemporary opera.  Instrumentation: Picc, Fl12, Ob12, Cl12, Bsn, Hrn12, Trp, Trom, Tim, Perc (or Drm set), glock, piano, strings  Singers: Baritone Lead, 2 Sopranos, Bass, 2 Broadway Altos (could double roles), 1 Actor Speaking part, SATB Chorus  BRIEF SYNOPSIS: What happens when a struggling, unknown composer attends a friend's New Year's Eve Party and meets a famous composer who offers to show the work to his agent? Never famous enough, Djeno (baritone), is always rejected and the meeting with the famous composer's agent proves the same. Telling them to do whatever with the piece, it is appropriated by the famous composer and is a hit.  Hearing the piece on the radio and sung by his soprano best friend, Djeno can take no more and commits suicide. His friend must deal with the aftermath of her betrayal.  Musical theater/opera hybrid. Perfect opera university or young voices. Poignant commentary on our time and the superficial, over-importance fame plays in it. Beautiful, accessible music.

The American Seasons (violin solo part – violin and string orchestra) MO148BViolin Solo Part (score and parts available)Music by Mark O’Connor30 pages - 38:00 minutes in length The American Seasons(Seasons Of An American Life)The American Seasons (Seasons Of An American Life) is a concerto for Violin And Chamber Orchestra. Composed in 1999, the music celebrates the various stages of an American life at the waking of the 21st century. Constructed in four movements and representing four stages of life, birth, adolescence, maturity and old age, the music also pays homage to Shakespeare's Seasons Of Man His acts being seven ages, incorporated throughout the work.Spring introduces the ideas of birth and infancy. After the principal theme has been stated, there is a violin cadenza encountering all twelve major keys and a 13/8 time signature representing the ancient golden ratio. These elements recall birth with all the possibilities a new life offers. Ending the movement, the principal theme is repeated with more complexity... as if posing life's questions.Summer represents the excitement and bravado of youthful adolescence and young adulthood. For the style of this movement I use a happy-go-lucky Blues voice which melds into Swing. I identify swing rhythm in all of 20th century American music culture as a common thread that runs through Ragtime through Rock and Roll on to Rap. Swing means testing the waters and pushing the envelope for lovers and soldiers.Fall is the slow movement symbolizing the wisdom of maturity. It is a peaceful theme with nostalgic strokes. It is a time for sincere reflection and enjoying ones accomplishments in life.Winter embodies the complexities and knowledge of an older person and that of a dying person. The movement begins with the principal them from Spring, but with a dissonance that emanates from a lifetime full of emotions and responsibilities. In the middle of the movement is a transition to an old world. I use my personal ancestry from Ireland as a foundation from which to rediscover one's lineage and explore the meaning and value of a cultural legacy. The exploration evolves into a four- and five-part fugue with a reel, jig, air, countered bass and the motif from the principal theme. All these elements, dances and melodies appear simultaneously and converge to form a unique insight to life's consequences from a historical perspective. Following the fugue, the principal theme finds its way back in. It sounds much as it did at birth. In the end, the solo violin cadenza carries the last earthly breaths before the violin and orchestra once again join in harmony to focus on a new life being transformed somewhere else. Life's four seasons in perpetuity. The composition was designed for maximum flexibility. Three or four movements combine to make a shorter variation Symphony. What is American Classical music? This CD contains Mark O'Connor's latest orchestral works: Americana Symphony Variations on Appalachia Waltz(2006) and Concerto No. 6 Old Brass (2003). Sony Classical//BMG label director Gilbert Hetherwick explains; Dvorak and Copland painted symphonic landscapes using melodies inspired by the Americana tradition, and Mark O'Connor actually comes from that tradition itself. He's lived it every day of his life. And you hear it in every note of his Americana Symphony. For the majority of his solo career, O'Connor has dedicated himself to composing for orchestra: he has written six full-length concertos, several orchestral suites and string orchestra compositions, and most recently his first Symphony.David Wallace, Juilliard School faculty member and Senior Teaching Artist with the New York Philharmonic, comments on the overall characteristics of O'Connor's music: The Americana Symphony combines historical narrative with classical and folk variation principles. The Symphony contains instrumental virtuosity, rhythmic drive, poignant lyricism, and probing counterpoint. With the Americana Symphony, Mark O'Connor provides his answer to a question that has intrigued U. S. composers since the debut of Dvorak's New World Symphony in 1892: How do you write the great American Symphony?William Intrilligator, artistic director of the Dubuque Symphony, conducted one of the first performances of the Americana Symphony: Very few pieces of new music have the same emotional and visceral effect as this Symphony, he writes. It has such power and beauty, and these traits are expressed in original ways that are pure O'Connor and truly American.Marin Alsop, artistic director of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and this recording's conductor of the Americana Symphony, calls the Symphony simply A hit! Full Orchestra - Level 5 - SKU: A0.980597 Composed by William Grosvenor Neil. Contemporary. Score and parts. 66 pages. TheComposerStudio.Com, LLC #6662561. Published by TheComposerStudio.Com, LLC (A0.980597). Composed in collaboration with clarinetist Dr. Corey Mackey, this three-movement concerto presents three distinct musical impressions led by the lyrically virtuosic clarinet solo. Each movement progressively gains a broader perspective of time and space, from the minute movements of the hummingbird, broadening to the majesty of mountains and ending with a vast impression of traveling through the universe at the speed of light. Movement one, Trochilidae-Allegro, celebrates the brilliant animation of the hummingbird. Emily Dickenson called it a resonance of emerald, a rush of cochineal. The clarinet solo imitates its mercurial flight darting and hovering in and around the orchestra. The second movement, Spiritual Adaptation to Higher Altitudes-Adagio, illustrates he slow and dramatic ascent of the clarinet through a broad and majestic orchestral soundscape culminating with an ecstatic summit vista. The third movement, Scherzo at the Speed of Light-Vivace, presents a sonic impression of sound and light in the universe, the clarinet spinning and gliding effortlessly through space arriving triumphantly in its home key of Bb in the final measures.Published by TheComposerStudio.Com, LLC. The recording was named by the BMG Classical Catalog as one of the top ten classical recordings of 1995. The composition was reviewed by a distinguished panel of composers and was awarded a Meet The Composer grant for another original concerto by O’Connor. Beginning with the premiers in 1993, and including the subsequent performances into 1999, the year of this publication, The FIDDLE CONCERTO has received more performances with orchestra than any other violin concerto composed in the last 50 years. Full Orchestra - Level 5 - SKU: A0.1425941 Composed by Grahame Gordon Innes. 21st Century,Classical,Contemporary,Film/TV. 43 pages. Grahame Gordon Innes #1006730. Published by Grahame Gordon Innes (A0.1425941). Symphony No 22 Galaxymbion is a 7-movement symphonic setting of scenes from my novel The Galaxymbion Odyssey MOVEMENT 1 – The Kytonian Expanse TOTAL NUMBER OF BARS = 2670 TOTAL DURATION = 125 minutes General methodology of composition;1. No fixed tonal centre2. Each movement inherits material from its predecessor3. The work is modular. This means that the 1st, 4th and 7th movements can be presented together as the symphony proper if full staging is not possible. The movements that double as concertos can be presented separately in their own right, hence their individual opus numbers.1. The work has developed from a highly individualized harmonic language that establishes its own laws independent from and additional to conventional harmonic practice. The same is true of the work’s unusual tonality. Central to this approach is the use of dodecaphonic principles in both the melodic and harmonic content. The intent here is to incorporate Schoenberg’s theoretical model of tone rows in an inclusive way, so that it is part of the work’s musical language and an additional tool in structuring and developing ideas. As a result the work remains tonal, albeit inhabiting a distinct and exotic aural landscape. There is no rigid adherence to conventional forms or methods of symphonic development, rather the work takes an entirely eccentric and highly individual approach. Whilst this is the ‘spark’ or heart of the work there is still an intention to create music instead of noise. Discords are therefore used as elsewhere in my more conventionally tonal works; as a natural consequence of the work itself instead of a forced snub at tonal music.
