Oboe, basson, violin, viola, double bass - SKU: IZ.BCMW164 Composed by Chun-Wai Wong. BCMCC (Bassoon Chamber Music Composition Competition). Score and Parts. 77 pages. Imagine Music - Digital #BCMW164. Published by Imagine Music - Digital (IZ.BCMW164). 9 x 12 in inches. What is life for? Wealth? Power? Happiness? Are you really feeling happy with your pursuits? Or would you just go ontirelessly? Do you really feel happy when chasing after those things? And what will you get by the end of your life?I have seen everything that is done under the sun, and behold, all is vanity and a striving after wind. (Ecclesiastes 1:14)The piece is inspired by the book of Ecclesiastes from the Bible. Musically, it is inspired by a traditional Japanese theatricalperformance Kabuki. It is purely musical theatre: the piece unfolds with the wheezing of hollowness of work and life, andit is followed by a wild dance of chase -- a chase after fame and fortune in hopes of getting rid of the depression. Yet, thestruggle only brings fleeting pleasure and pressing anxiety to chase after another goal. Feeling exhausted, one realizes thatwhat one has done are all meaningless: the hollowness never goes away. Only after a hoarse cry does one start to realize themeaning of life, a meaning that transcends all materialistic goals; and only after understanding the reason to live can one take abreath of life. There are references to traditional Japanese instrumental writings, including the sound of Shamisen imitated by pizzicato instrings, drum imitated by pizzicato chords and beating of strings on fingerboard, Japanese flute imitated by the high oboe. Theshifting focus between different musical layers represents the movement of the imaginary dancer who moves forward andbackward on the stage unceasingly.ABreath of Life was commissioned by the Hong Kong Composers' Guild.

Large Ensemble - Level 5 - SKU: A0.1044258 Composed by An-lun Huang. 20th Century,Folk,Multicultural,Traditional,World. Score and parts. 145 pages. DoReMi Edition #648168. Published by DoReMi Edition (A0.1044258). To the New Century Rhapsody to the Rising sun ä¸åœ‹æš¢æƒ³æ›²ç¬¬å››è™Ÿã€Šå¸ƒè¾²ä¹‹æŒã€‹ An Ensemble for Flute, Clarinet, Strings, Piano,Erhu, Yangqin, Ruan and Zheng in Bunungese Style by An-lun Huang, Op.59[April, 2000] Commissioned by the MusicCanadaMusique2000 Dedicated to James Campbell, “Rhapsody to the Rising Sun†is a commission of the MusicCanadaMusique 2000. The five Chinese traditional instruments being used for this ensemble, are: Erhu 二胡 - “Chinese Violin†Yangqin æšç´ - “Chinese Ducimer†Ruan ä¸é˜® - “Chinese Lute†2 Zhengs å¤ç® - “Chinese Zither†The composition of this piece is based on the original musical materials of Bunung布農. The Bunungese is a minority group of natives who live on the island of Formosaå°ç£. Ethnically speaking, they originated from the Micronesian race rather than from the “Hanâ€, the Chinese majority who accounts for ninety-seven percent of the population. The pentatonic mode is often found in Chinese folk tunes, in which a triad chord is seldom found. However, the Bunungese actually “enjoy†the sonority (the pitch and the tone) of the major triad. The modern civilization has yet to adapt to their wild and natural style. Usually, their folk song would be a chorale led by a leading singer, followed by the crowd. In the morning, facing the rising sun, the people with their colourful clothes, gather in a circle and dance to the rhythmic music. Located in far east Asia, the Bunungese may well be the first people to praise the rising sun to celebrate the new century with songs and dances. This is the reason why the composer chose to complete the commission in the Bunugese style. æ¤å½•éŸ³ä¸º2000å¹´é»„å®‰ä¼¦æŒ‡æŒ¥åŠ æ‹¿å¤§å®¤å†…ä¹å›¢åœ¨å¸•é‡Œæ¡‘音ä¹èŠ‚首演的实况.é’¢ç´æ˜¯æ¬§é˜³ç‘žä¸½,æ°‘ä¹éƒ¨ä»½ç”±å¤šä¼¦å¤šçš„敦煌室ä¹å›¢æ‹…ä»».

String Quartet - Intermediate - Composed by Tilly Lockwood. Contemporary Classical, Repertoire, General Instructional, Children's Music, Recital. Score, Set of Parts. 33 pages. Published by Surrey Dance Music
A collection of four fun characterful sketches arranged for string quartet. I?ve left the melody mostly in the hands of the first, and all four will benefit from ?playing together? skills, adding character with rubato and being aware of what each player is doing. For this reason, as well as the height to which the first reaches, I've graded it as intermediate. I?ve also added a few bow markings for guidance.

Jazz Ensemble Jazz Ensemble - Level 4 - SKU: A0.970736 Composed by Mike Strand. Graduation,Jazz,Wedding. Score and parts. 22 pages. Michael M. Strand #4890111. Published by Michael M. Strand (A0.970736). By Mike Strand, ASCAPThis is the full score, plus scores for three groups of parts, for a full arrangement of a swing tune for piano, bass, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, and two singers. After the cover, there are 21 pages of music: Ten pages for the full score; four pages for the group of blowing instruments (alto saxophone, B flat trumpet, and trombone); four pages for the piano and bass; and three pages for the two singers. Grouping the parts in this manner is natural and advantageous for this particular swing composition. These part groupings will help players in a group coordinate with each other from their group score. This is an excellent compromise between everyone working from the full score, and each player having a score with just the player’s individual part. The audio sample plays the full score. This product solves a problem that any composer of new jazz music faces: Unlike the popular standards, there aren’t any well-known and often-heard arrangements for a band to emulate. As the composer with only a lead sheet, I would have to convince your band to develop an arrangement from scratch, starting from nothing but the lead sheet! With so many attractive standard swing tunes to perform, a busy band may hesitate to put extra effort into an unknown tune. Problem solved! With this full arrangement of They Came Here to Dance, a band can better see and hear the tune’s full potential. It will be easier for a band to make any modifications to suit its particular mix of musicians and to better fit its style. With this arrangement, with written score, part group scores and audio sample, it will be as easy as working from the recording and score of a popular standard. All that’s missing from this arrangement is the percussion, because of the individuality of drummers. The band only needs a skilled jazz drummer to join in easily with this arrangement. Here are the lyrics to They Came Here to Dance: 1.You may come here to eat and to drink.Lots of chins wag, and wine glasses clink. Well, that’s all good, but here’s what I think: They came here to dance! 2. We cats up front have to check our sound mix. Then they walk in, togged to the bricks. They have the moves to show off our licks. They came here to dance! Bridge – Instrumental section, followed by: Our band’s in the groove – here’s one reason why: The doghouse amps are turned up high. They get in there, and tear up the floor! And they don’t care if their feet get sore. 3. Bustin’ our conks, we cats are hot, She is a wren who rocks him a lot! And they don’t care if we light up or not. They came here to dance!4. Bridge again, then:Bustin’ our conks, we cats are hot, She is a wren who rocks him a lot! And they don’t care if we light up or not. They have the learning to, they have a yearning to,They came here to dance! Note Some words in these lyrics are taken from Cab Calloway Slang: Light up – smoke a stick (marijuana cigarette) Doghouse - bass Get in there - go to work, get busy, make it hot, give it all you got Bustin’ our conks – breaking our necks (applying ourselves diligently) Wren – a chick, a queen (beautiful girl) Cat – musician in swing band Togged to the bricks – dressed to kill, from head to toe Licks – hot musical phrases In the groove – perfect, down the alley .

Piano Solo - Level 3 - SKU: A0.1416984 By Ian Isaac Oliver. By Ian Isaac Oliver. 20th Century,Blues,Jazz,Standards. Score. 2 pages. Ian Isaac Oliver #998574. Published by Ian Isaac Oliver (A0.1416984). An original composition, this moody jazz ballad now arranged for solo piano emphasizes unique chord structures & classic melody lines. Wonderful for any club, restaurant, or lobby setting, and sure to melodically appeal to even the most commercial listeners. What defines a classic? Back when I was 19 years old or so, I sat at my piano while looking at The Real Book, a famous anthology of jazz standards. It occured to me that its canon seemed closed. These songs had endured through decades, and meant something new to each generation. We don't see much of that anymore... I figured there wasn't a good reason as to why new jazz standards weren't being introduced, so I thought I would have my go at it. I want the children of 2080 to be able to slowdance to one of my songs playing on the jukebox; what resulted was A Toast to the Sky.- Ian Isaac Oliver, 2024.

Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 3 - SKU: A0.835452 Composed by Stuart Brown. 20th Century,Contemporary,World. Octavo. 211 pages. Stuart Brown Music #5990681. Published by Stuart Brown Music (A0.835452). A fantastic offer price for the full score and all parts! ... Looking for something to add a sense of oriental exoticism to your amateur orchestral/choral concert? This may be what you're looking for! This charming little suite of six dances lasts about 15½ minutes. It consists of a Pavane, Bourée, Sarabande, Allemande, Basse Danse and Galliard, which vary widely in character. As a whole the suite provides some interesting challenges for both performers and listeners. Apart from conventional strings, flute and harp (which can be either pedal or lever) you will need:- One or maybe two Arabian ouds. The parts are playable also on a fretless acoustic guitar. (Needs to be fretless because of the quarter-tones in some of the Arabic modes used.)- A cimbalom (the part can be played on a piano also, with slight modification). You might get away with using a hammered dulcimer but you'd need to make a number of compromises.- A doumbek and a djembe. These beautiful drums are a must for Middle-Eastern or African music. They're fairly easy to find, though finding somebody who can play them properly may take a bit more doing!- Finger cymbals and a gong. These are regular western instruments.- A wind-chime. Anything that produces a nice shimmering spangle of sound will probably do!- A group of singers (SATB). Nothing particularly challenging but see below. The primary oud part, the strings and the singers need to have sufficiently good intonation to pitch quarter tones. These are the exception rather than the rule, but nevertheless play an important part in the character of the music. Apart from this, the music is relatively straightforward and probably playable by any reasonably competent amateur or high school orchestra. In the spring of 2020 I wrote a set of short music tracks for a charity of which I'm a trustee. In order to protect my intellectual property rights in the music, I decided to bring it together into an attractive if not intellectually challenging little suite, hence An Omani Dance Suite. Originally the dances were all in Arabic quarter-tone temperament, but obviously quarter-tones cannot be played easily (if at all) on the flute, harp and cimbalom. So I have made some adjustments but retained the Arabic temperament wherever reasonably possible. I had thought initially of using a santur instead of a cimbalom, but the santur lacks the range and the dynamic capability to be used with a string chamber orchestra. The cimbalom doesn't need to be a concert grand model; in fact it doesn't even need to have dampers. The Omani was something of an afterthought: a musician friend of mine had worked in Oman and commented on how authentically Omani the Basse Danse sounded. The period of composition coincided with a time when I was really missing friends in Vietnam and Romania, so somehow influences from those countries found their way into the music.I'm not bothering with performing rights for this - just go away and enjoy the music! ... but if it inspires you find out more about the charity work that inspires me, feel free to get in touch!https://www.facebook.com/stuartbrownmusic/

Baritone Horn TC,Euphonium,Piano - Level 3 - SKU: A0.552856 Composed by Edvard Grieg. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Concert,Instructional,Romantic Period,Standards,World. Score and part. 16 pages. Jmsgu3 #3508137. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.552856). Duration: ca. 3:20, Score: 10 pages, solo part: 2 pages, piano part: 3 pages. A delicate masterpiece, not very difficult - suitable for a recital encore. Grieg Background In the first place, Edvard Grieg (1843 –1907) was a Norwegian composer as well as a concert pianist. As a matter of fact, most music historians consider him one of the foremost Romantic era composers. Consequently, his music is part of the international standard classical repertoire. Grieg moreover used Norwegian folk music in his own compositions. Consequently, he ushered Norwegian music to transnational consciousness. Furthermore, he forged a national musical identity for Norway. It is important to realize that he did this in a manner similar to Jean Sibelius in Finland, and Bedřich Smetana in Bohemia. Legacy Grieg is especially celebrated in the city of Bergen. For example, the city has erected numerous statues depicting Grieg. Specifically, the city has named a concert hall (Grieg Hall), a music school (Grieg Academy) and a professional choir (Edvard Grieg Kor) after him. As a matter of fact, there is also a museum located at his former home in Troldhaugen. Peer Gynt Suite No. 1 (Op. 46) Grieg wrote incidental music for the purpose of illustrating a play by Ibsen known as Peer Gynt. The play includes, in particular, the famous selection entitled, In the Hall of the Mountain King. In this composition, Grieg indeed depicts the exploits of the scoundrel, Peer Gynt. In one famous episode, for example, Peer steals a bride at her wedding. For this reason, the people chase him, but soon Peer falls, thereupon striking his skull on a boulder. He wakens forthwith in a highland bounded by angry gnomes. Consequently, the music of In the Hall of the Mountain King represents the mad gnomes taunting Peer. Therefore, each time the theme repeats it gets louder and faster. In the end, Peer surprisingly escapes from the mountain. Holberg Suite and Misc. Summary It must be remembered that Grieg originally wrote his Holberg Suite for the piano. In other words, he only later arranged it for strings. Further, Grieg composed by and large many songs with lyrics by famous writers such as Heine, Goethe, Ibsen, Hans Christian Andersen, Rudyard Kipling, and others. On balance, Norwegian pianist Eva Knardahl recorded altogether Grieg’s whole piano catalog on LP in 1980. These recordings were released again on CD in 2006. In any event, Grieg himself performed and recorded the bulk of these pieces toward the end of his life.Register for free lifetime revisions and updates at www.jamesguthrie.com

Jmsgu3 #3507681. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549558). In any event, Grieg himself performed and recorded the bulk of these pieces toward the end of his life. Register for free lifetime revisions and updates at www.jamesguthrie.com
