La publicación de la segunda edición del libro A ti Estudiante del compositor DarÃo Estrella representa un importante aporte musical al catálogo de la música escrita domini- cana, figurando como el primer libro para piano de composiciones de Merengue-Jazz.Este Opus nos abre las puertas de manera introductoria a su gran mundo de composi- ciones del cual a ciencia cierta aún no sabemos la inmensidad de su tamaño. Como editorial nos sentimos altamente agradecidos de que el compositor nos haya dado la responsabilidad de asumir la digitalización, revisión, análisis yedición de los manuscritos de al segunda edición este libro, el cual fue nuestra primera publicación inédita y sin al cual todo este proyecto no habrÃa tomado al solidez y el profesionalismo que hoy presentamos.Dedicado especialmente a los estudiantes del Conservatorio Nacional de Música de laRepública Dominicana, este libro pretende sacar ol mejor de las habilidades pianÃsticas de los estudiantes de nivel intermedio, comportándose como el primer escalón para lasfuturas composiciones de merengue-jazz de niveles más avanzados a las cuales los estudiantes se puedan enfrentar.Hemos respetado los manuscritos originales de las 31 composiciones de manera estricta, sin embargo el 95% del análisis de los acordes ha sido realizado por la editorial tomando como referencia la manera en la cual el compositor ha realizado sus propios análisis en otras composiciones de la misma forma musical. El Ãndice de las obras ha sido organizado de acuerdo a al fecha de creación, desde 1/12/2018 hasta el 31/12/2018.Por último y no menos importante, agradecemos eternamente a todos los que se involucraron en este proyecto para que hoy sea una realidad; a todos los que creyeron en este proyecto pacientemente y nos han aportado su granito de mostaza para seguir llevando la música dominicana a cada rincón del mundo.

Instrumentation:FluteClarinet in BbHorn in FViolinViolaCelloDoiuble bassSeptet, opus 77 … “Variations on a Shaker Tune†was commissioned by Mark Ludwig for his educational series in the Western Berkshires of Massachusetts.  When he approached me about writing a “theme and variations†work for the purpose of illustrating musical form, texture and orchestration to a young audience, I thought what better thing to do than to use as a theme a Shaker hymn from near Hancock Shaker Village.  As it turns out Deborah Leah Rentz, a mezzo-soprano who is Mark’s assistant at the TerezÃn Music Foundation, has been researching into and transcribing from a Shaker Hymnal, ca. 1850, created and compiled for the Hancock Shaker Village.  (Deborah’s project is sponsored by the Hancock Shaker Village and the Richmond Performing Series.)   So I asked her to put on a DAT tape (those were the days before CDs or digital distribution… ) a number of these hymns for me.  I immediately fell in love with the very first one on the tape, “Grateful Remembrance.† It had a soulful, melancholic core; an almost “bluesy†feeling to it.  In this performance, Deborah will sing the hymn a cappella at the beginning.   Then, the seven variations will follow.I. Grateful Remembrance … An instrumental version of the hymn.II. Grateful Chanting … Featuring the B-flat clarinet in a pentatonic “chant†setting.III. Grateful Funk … The “bluesiness†of the hymn is transformed into a funk riff.IV. Tango Remembered … A four-note fragment from the hymn is transformed into a sultry tango.V. Sambinha agradecida … The yearning “flat 6th†in the hymn is transformed into a samba Carmen Miranda would’ve have liked.VI. Canonized Remembrance … The hymn is treated to a canonic transfiguration.VII. Grateful Groove … The pentatonic nature of the hymn is spun out in an Afro-cuban dazzle dazzle finale!

Variations on a Shaker Tune was commissioned by Mark Ludwig for his educational series in the Berkshires of Massachusetts. When he approached me about writing a theme and variations work for the purpose of illustrating musical form, texture and orchestration to a young audience, I thought what better thing to do than to use as a theme a Shaker hymn from nearby Hancock Shaker Village. As it turns out Deborah Leath Rentz, a mezzo-soprano who is Mark's assistant at the Terezin Music Foundation, has been researching and transcribing a Shaker Hymnal, ca. 1850, created and compiled at the Hancock Shaker Village. (Deborah's project is sponsored by the Hancock Shaker Village and the Richmond Performing Series.) So I asked her to put on DAT tape a number of these hymns for me. I immediately fell in love with the very first one on the tape: Grateful Remembrance. It had a soulful, melancholic core; an almost bluesy feeling to it. In this performance, Deborah will sing the hymn a cappella in the beginning. Then, seven variations will follow. I. Grateful Remembrance An instrumental version of the hymn. II. Grateful Chanting Featuring the B-flat clarinet in a pentatonic chant setting. III. Grateful Funk The bluesiness of the hymn is transformed into a funk riff. IV. Tango Remembered A four-note fragment from the hymn is transformed into a sultry tango. V. Sambinha agradecida The yearning flat 6th in the hymn is transformed into a samba Carmen Miranda would've loved. VI. Canonized Remembrance The hymn is treated to a canonic transfiguration. VII. Grateful Groove The pentatonic nature of the hymn is spun out in an Afro-cuban razzle dazzle finale!!! Enjoy!!!
