Published by Music Innovators Workshop (A0.984719). This incredibly difficult-to-read piece is tamed by the key maps tablature. The traditional notation for this piece is at the extreme of its ability to notate piano music - and it fails miserably! It is playable only by the gifted few who have the tenacity to race through reading this incredibly fast 6 flat Eb minor notation. with its additional double flats and accidentals, some of which must be played on white keys. Surely the piece must be some kind of joke - Chopin's way of thumbing his nose at those bold enough to try to play it. It surely is NOT the great music that Chopin usually crafted.The joke is that it is not really difficult to play. It is just incredibly difficult to READ! The music can be played, although without its breakneck speed, by students at the intermediate level if reading from a key map. This piece is an extreme example of how much easier playing from key maps can be.This piece is notated on a vertically oriented tablature called a key map. Key maps are intended to SHOW you (visually) which keys to play by matching (mapping) the locations of the keys on the keyboard. >>> The group of 12 keys from Middle C up to B form what we call the green Octave Group. (There are 7 of these identical groups on the piano distinguished by their colors and locations.)The key map staff is based on an Octave Group of the keyboard. For each key map octave group, the 5 vertical lines of the staff stand for the 5 matching black KEYS. >>> Staff lines ARE SPACED to match the horizontal spacing of the black keys on the keyboard The notes for black keys are placed ON these staff lines. The notes for the white keys are placed BETWEEN the lines. >>> The notes of a key map move to the left and right to indicate change in PITCH and down the page to indicate the passing of TIME (rhythm). The vertical length of each note is proportional to the time (in beats) that the sound requires.

Harmonics added when advantageous, but playing the regular note would work as well.10. Piano pedal markings removed and replaced with commas. It's a flaw of sheet music that slurs, ties, and phrase markings are all the same symbol, and having all three happening can clutter a score.Compromises This may sound obvious, but of course I had to make some alterations to make this flow properly on guitar. Many of the original chord inversions on the piano were not kept. However, many harmonies were kept intact as far as following the chord nomenclature name. Measure 50 was originally an A minor chord, the irony is that the F major suprise is an homage to Chopin anyways, suprised he didn't opt for it. To be honest, I don't like how there is a perfect authentic cadence in measure 50. I think modern audiences would want to clap too badly, so I believe that ending needs to be slightly messed up to propel the music forward, and give a sense that there is still a problem. The other chord that was changed was an E7b9 to a Ddim7 in measure 78. If you know your theory well, you'll realize these chords have the same exact function and nearly the same notes, it's just that Ddim7 flowed a bit better on guitar. I'd rather have guitarists play the rhythms correctly and with musicality, than have guitarist clunkily go though overly large chords in order to mantain historical accuracy. Measure 15 was hard to keep the original chord intact. A Bb/D with a G in the melody as a suspension sounds more like a g minor chord. That is cliche Chopinesque neopolitan moment so the Bb is crucial to mantain. Having some rough sort of Bbmaj7 or G minor chord while mantaining the melody seemed to sound the best even though the name of the chord might have gotten a little off. I tried chord charts, but they seemed messier than what it was worth. I also could have the denser tablature in the sheet music, but that does make it look 10x more intimidating. So this version is unique in that the tablature is my denser arrangement, whereas the sheet music would allow someone to quickly make a new arrangement. I like this ethos because most guitarists are likely to be much better at playing chord quickly when they don't have to have an exact voicing. This makes this arrangement easier to further perfect since I am naming the harmonies, which often isn't done in classical music.BackstoryThis is one of my favorite pieces, and also my favorite composer. I feel classical guitar repertoire is lacking easily playable music in the romantic style. Often, if it is romantic guitar music, it is extemely difficult and therefore only a select few can enjoy performing it. Also, I sometimes get my hopes up to find a romantic guitar composer, but then after listening, there's nothing quite like Chopin. Obviously, you will have to have some chops to play this since it's one of the most ambitious undertakings a guitarist could take, but it's also not so hard that you have to be train for a decade because I changed the key.

This second piece in my series of Introspections is a sort of passacaglia. It is a dramatic but lyrical piece in triple meter that features a kind of ground bass of chromatic harmony, with melodic variations above it. This much-varied ostinato is introduced emphatically in the opening statement, is developed throughout, and closes the piece, transfigured. In my introduction to this piece, I offer some technical advice for the intermediate advanced pianists, for whom the piece is written, on how to play to hard passages, particularly the fast scales. This piece is not for beginners, but neither is it nearly as difficult as any of the harder etudes by Chopin. Moreover, much of it is easy and, I should hope, gratifying to play. While the harmony of this piece is chromatic and spiky, it is tonal, melodic, and, all said, I give you this one with my most conscientious effort not to make your ears bleed, or leave you baffled or suffering from musical vertigo. The performing time time is about seven minutes.

These seven short pieces were composed in the early months of 1976 as imitations of some of the composers and musical styles of the early twentieth century. They were never performed or published at the time. They are useful as didactic studies for student pianists. The seven pieces areI. Intonatione In the Whole-Tone ScaleII. Prélude and Nocturne in ModesIII. An Impression of ImpressionismIV. An Imitation of Roy HarrisV. Adding Chord-Tones While Shifting MetersVI. Ragtime BitonalityVII. Diatonic Waltz Program Notes: The Intonatione In the Whole-Tone Scale recalls the Renaissance Italian musical form that evolved into the prèlude in later organ music, as well as the use of Italian forms in the atonal music of Arnold Schoenberg, and some neo-Baroque composers of the twentieth century. In contrast, the whole-tone scale is reminiscent of generally tonal composers, including Debussy. The Martial Prèlude and Nocturne in Modes recalls the many pre-twentieth century pairings of preludes with fugues and other forms. The pairing with a nocturne evokes an air of Romanticism. The Martial Prèlude is a march-like fanfare, in Lydian mode on C. The Chopinesque Nocturne is in Phrygian mode, on E flat. An Impression of Impressionism evokes some of Debussy’s Preludes pour Piano, including a suggestive title at the bottom of the page, as Debussy himself did. For the young pianist aiming to master the works of Debussy, the arpeggio patterns, block chords, and sequential motives will prove helpful as introductory exercises. An Imitation of Roy Harris was inspired by the occasion in 1976 when James Siddons heard Roy Harris speaking in person about his compositions. Siddons was impressed by Harris’ youth in Oklahoma, and how the solidity of American rural life shaped Harris’ symphonic music. When taking questions at the end of the lecture, a young composer asked Harris about his creative methods when composing music. Well, Harris responded, You don’t pull up a potato just to see if its growing. Adding Chord-Tones While Shifting Meters is a technical exercise that is nonetheless fun to listen to, and fun to play. A student pianist should be asked to analyze the harmony in this piece, and to describe what shifts are taking place when the musical meter (as well as phrasing and rhythm patterns) change. The echoes of Stravinsky and Bartók should be apparent to the listener and pianist. Ragtime was not regarded as art music of the same caliber as Stravinsky and Schoenberg, or even Copland and Gershwin, until the 1970s. The inclusion of ragtime in these seven pieces would not have been accepted by composers of the early twentieth century, Stravinsky excepted. Ragtime Bitonality explores how such piano music might have sounded had major composers of the 1900-1920 era taken an interest in its march-like vitality. There is even a touch of atonality! In contrast to the powerful rhythms and juxtaposed tonal relations in much early twentieth-century music, there were works by many composers that continued familiar melodic patterns and balanced forms, offering musical relief in a turbulent era in music history. The Diatonic Waltz is offered here as a quiet, peaceful conclusion to our tour of musical styles in classical music of a century ago. Waltz No. 10 by Brendan Reeves My favorite composer is Chopin. His influential work has inspired many composers, including myself, and this piece is in many ways a tribute to him and the Romantic style in which he composed. Its purpose is to evoke feelings of love and beauty in those who listen. When you listen to the piece, I hope you will appreciate the subtle details in the music. In addition, I hope you will feel how the music, in true Romantic style, builds to a climax and settles down again before ending. It begins sweetly in dolce as the theme of the piece is revealed. As it continues, it moves into the B section of the piece which is played con brio. After the con brio section, it goes back to the dolce before finishing. The piece finishes in a style called leggerissimamente, meaning as light as can be. The name of the piece, Waltz No. 10, is simply named for being the 10th waltz in a series of waltz’s I have composed. I hope you enjoy listening to the piece as much as I have enjoyed creating it.

This piece was inspired by Chopin's pieces 'Nocturne in C# Minor' and Prelude Op. 28, No. 4. The solemn, singing melody in the right hand is meant to be played as marked, 'cantabile'. This, along with the left hand's slow moving arpeggios with some consonant and dissonant parts creates a reflective, peaceful mood.Whilst writing this piece I wanted to focus on writing a piece in binary form, as the second half of the piece shows. I still tried to keep the melodic melody in the right hand, but the left hand changes to a waltz-like accompaniment. If I were to write this piece again, I may have explored the first part for much longer and made a nice transition into the second part.As for now, this is my last piece which I composed at an earlier time. I am now going to start working on some new fresh pieces, focusing on certain aspects of music. Thanks again, Damien.

Fauré eventually graduated from college and earned a living as an organist and educator. During this period, he had, on the whole, little time to compose. He consequently became more successful in his middle age, becoming organist of the Église de la Madeleine and director of the Paris Conservatoire. However, he still needed time on balance for composing. Therefore, given these points, he withdrew to the countryside during the summer to focus on composing. An arrangement of the timeless classic song that combines the rich harmonic palette of the jazz idiom with some keyboard techniques of the 19th century romantic composers. Performance duration is about 3 minutes 45 seconds, and a performance can be viewed at youtube.com/c/rupertaustin/videos.
A six bar introduction hints at the bridge of the song before the first two verses are presented; the first with chordal writing and the second introducing some left hand arpeggios. The first appearance of the bridge stays close to the original. This is followed by two more verses where the right hand takes flight with figurations that at first outline the famous melody, before the roulades of notes lose sight of the melody and instead weave around the harmonic changes. At bar 48 the bridge reappears with the melody incorporated into a right hand figuration inspired by passages from a Chopin etude (Op. 25, No. 11). However, the much slower tempo makes this section far more approachable than Chopin's fearsome etude. At bar 56 an earlier version of the verse is repeated, which then leads to the close.
A flexible tempo should be used, with generous rubato in appropriate places. In particular, bar 41 should not sound rushed and tempo can be held back significantly here. Fingering suggestions are given in many places, but these will not suit all hands. The closest attention to fingering is required in bars 48-49 and 52-54. The dynamic markings should be viewed as a rough guide and the performer is encouraged to find their own interpretation.
