Are your students ready for more intermediate or advanced band repertoire, yet the band’s limited instrumentation holds them back?My Limited or Full series is geared toward the success of small bands with limited instrumentation. These pieces aim at giving small bands more advanced music within the framework of a young band arrangement. If you like the music, these pieces also sound great with a larger full instrumentation.PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:The joyful ringing of bells is often associated with the holiday season. This is a common theme running through Christmas Carol literature. Conceived as a fun, accessible overture for young bands or bands with limited instrumentation, A Celebration of Bells highlights two of the most beloved Christmas carols associated with bells. The piece begins with a joyful brass bell-tone fanfare accompanied by trilling woodwinds. The introduction gives way to mostly-unison woodwind rendition of I Heard the Bells On Christmas Day. The brass then further works out the melody with a more chordal presentation. The woodwinds present a short, light interlude, followed by an explosive snare drum and full-band chord one key higher than the beginning. The piece shifts to a Jingle Bells march. Following the march, the music modulates back down one key and returns to a full band, Maestoso version of I Heard the Bells. The overture comes to a close with a return to the familiar introductory bell tones. This piece is sure to be a festive hit for both your students and their audience!

Piano Solo - Level 2 - SKU: A0.940723 Composed by Julia Muench. Contemporary. Score. 2 pages. NJ Original Music #3415599. Published by NJ Original Music (A0.940723). Great for waking interest in that particular piano student and a really fun way to explore the pentatonic scale and 9th chords on the piano. Cross overs abound! I wrote this descriptive piece in particular for a student I was teaching, Elsa S., who ended up performing it on her Spring recital. Julia Muench currently resides on the piano faculty at the Monmouth Conservatory of Music (now under the Count Basie Theatre umbrella) in Red Bank, New Jersey, with a large student class. Her more recent musical activities besides composing, involve extensive piano teaching and giving piano recitals. The past two years, she has spent a good deal of time traveling in and out of the country. Italy and Chile have been among her destinations abroad. She performed a piano concert including her own composition, Nautilus Dances, as part of the Utopia Exhibit ( focusing on German Emigration to the US in the 1830's) in Washington DC's German Museum and at the Missouri history Museum in St. Louis, MO.Her latest piano concert in Red Bank, NJ featured composers Chopin, Debussy and Khatchaturian. Many of her performances may be viewed on youtube under Julia Muench. She has her own musical article blog on Wordpress under musicflower. She is a long time ASCAP member, where she was recently awarded and ASCAP writer's award for 2009/10. Julia has a MMA Degree from the University of Miami and has been composing since she was in her teens. She works regularly with ballet dancers at the Academy of Dance Arts in Tinton Falls, NJ.

This arrangement inserts the classic carol into an exciting, lively concert band overture that is sure to interest both your students and your audience! This overture begins with a loud and bombastic riff, accompanied by a lively accented background rhythm. The introduction then gives way to a soft and lively melody in the flutes and high woodwinds. The full ensemble then enters, combining traditional carol with the lively accented rhythm. The piece then softly passes the melody between sections. The melody is further passed around as instruments are added. The piece finally gives way to a bombastic combination of the traditional carol and the introductory riff. The melody is then softly passed between sections once more, and then this section finally builds to a full orchestral finish. I sincerely hope that you enjoy my lively arrangement of Carol of the Bells.   - Christopher Durigg

The Arban Manual is a complete course that takes you through the Arban Method in 69 well organized lessons. You will need The Arban Method to use this course. Each lesson is a balanced day of practice. This version is for the older Carl Fischer Arban Method.
Description
The Arban Manual is a complete course that takes you through the Arban Method in 69 well organized lessons. You will need The Arban Method to use this course. Each lesson is a balanced day of practice.
Why
Arban?s Complete Conservatory Method for Trumpet andArban?s Famous Method for Trombone have been two of the most widely used brass books for over 100 years. The Arban Manual is simply a guide in how to practice Arban. The Arban Manual will take you step by step through the entire Arban method. The Arban Manual is not a technique book and the practice advice should work well with most brass methodology.
How
A minimum of one week should be spent on each lesson, although many choose to spend longer. If you are having trouble with one part of a lesson, you may wish to spend more time on that part. Most lessons are divided into six parts that should be practiced in the prescribed order. It is recommended that you rest between each part and try to spread your practicing throughout the day as best you can.
Range Considerations
Students who are ready to play from Arban should have a ?usable range? up to A (concert G). Many of the easy studies do go this high. Although there are not many really high notes in Arbanby today?s standards, some of the studies can be quite taxing. An example of this is the interval studies on p. 126-129.
If you are not able to reach the highest keys at first, go as far you can comfortably, be sure to rest properly, and try to go further the next day. Remember, you will likely play from Arban in one way or another for most of your life, so don?t rush your progress.
Warming Up
One of the shortcomings of Arban is the lack of solid warm up material. Part I of each lesson is designed to be a warm up. Some teachers and students may find this inadequate for a warm up. Therefore, feel free to supplement the lesson plan with a warm up of your choosing. After your warm up, continue with Part I of the lesson.
Performance Etudes
I?ve designated some of the more melodic and well balanced etudes as ?performance etudes?. These can be used for auditions or recitals and should be prepared for that purpose. Some teachers or students may have other favorite etudes that they may choose to use for the purpose of performance.
All of the characteristic studies and celebrated fantaisies are considered performance pieces.
Models
Models are different ways of playing an exercise. Many modelsinvolve using different articulations on a given exercise. Arban?suse of models is not extensive so I have chosen to expand on it, giving the student even more practice material. All models must be practiced thoroughly as prescribed in the lessons.
The Hard Stuff
At some point in your study of Arban you may come across something that you just can?t play, or play at tempo. This often involves triple or double tonguing. Don?t let this discourage you. Practice it diligently and slowly. You may want to stay with it for more than one lesson. After practicing the difficult etude for at least a month, make a note of it and return to it later. Brass playing is a lifetime commitment and you should continue to grow throughout your playing career. Many of the world?s top players can?t play everything in the Arban book.
Multiple Tonguing
Selecting the best syllables for multiple tonguing is often a problem for brass players and teachers. Although Arbanrecommends ?tu ku?, many have had success using ?tuh kuh?, ?duh guh?, ?tee kee? and many others. Finding your best syllables may take some experimentation.
Extending Exercises
Beginning with Lesson 44, some of the exercises are reviewed and extended. This is to provide more upper range work, more key work and different models.
Transposition
Beginning with Lesson 47, exercises are suggested to be transposed for trumpets in different keys. These are the most common transpositions and are only to provide the trumpet player with some basic transposition skills. Bass clef instruments need to substitute other material here such as clef practice.
The first transposition is for C trumpet which is useful for reading music in concert pitch. The second transposition is for Ab trumpet which is useful if you play a C trumpet and want to read a Bb part.
Songs and duets
Some teachers love these and others don?t. I suggest you try them and if you?d like to supplement other pieces that you need to work on, please feel free to do so.
For bass clef instruments
Although the page numbering is different, the exercises in the bass clef edition are numbered the same as the trumpet edition, therefore making The Arban Manual viable for bass clef instruments.
The songs and duets have been left out of the early bass clef version of Arban, although there is now a new version that does include them. Feel free to supplement music of your choice. Some of the articulations and models may not be practical for slide trombone.

Guitar Tab - Intermediate - Composed by Henry Worrall. Arranged by Perry Brooks Nichols. Romantic Period, Classical Period, Folk, Recital, Americana. Score, Tablature. 18 pages. Published by Perry Brooks Nichols
?Sebastopol, A Descriptive Fantaisie For The Guitar? or ?The Siege of Sebastopol? by Henry Worrall (1825 - 1902) is considered to be the seminal work of the American Parlor music era prior to the turn of the 20th century. Worrall was largely responsible for introducing open tunings, particularly open D major, i.e ?Vestapol? or ?tuned like Sebastopol, to the American public with the wide distribution of his publications and guitar method. ?Sebastopol? was the original work in open D major tuning. It reveals many of the potential harmonies capable in this tuning such as barred chords at the 5th and 7th frets, as well as the usage of the rising minor 3rd interval rising to the Major 3rd in the context of the major scale - an important element in ragtime and country blues which would develop subsequently. This opus was first published as early as 1854, and was said to have been inspired by the contemporaneous debut of photojournalistic depictions of war in worldwide newspapers; ?The Siege Of Sevastopol? of the Crimean War was this breakthrough. The ?descriptive fantaisie? aspect of the work illustrates via sound the images of armies marching in the 2/4 beat, bugles represented by natural harmonics of the D major chord, cannons firing in barred arpeggios and rasgueados, and bombs exploding using the ?Drumming? technique of tambor. The middle section of this work may be the first extensive passage of a work composed in the ?percussive guitar? genre. In addition, I have included the elegant Introduction and Finale, found only in the notebooks of Worrall's collection. Notation, Tab, with right and left hand fingering, and description of techniques are included. 18 pages including cover.

B-Flat Trumpet Solo - Level 3 - SKU: A0.1368479 By Goran Bregovic. By serbian folk song. Arranged by Zoran Radanovic. Folk,Patriotic,Standards,Traditional,Wedding. Individual part. 2 pages. Zoran Radanovic #952810. Published by Zoran Radanovic (A0.1368479). This arrangement is very famous serbian folk song for Bb trumpet solo. Ovaj aranzman je za solo Bb trubu.Ederlezi is a popular traditional folk song of the Romani people in the Balkans. The song got its name from Ederlezi, which is a festival[1] celebrating the return of springtime, especially by the Romani people of the Balkans, and elsewhere around the world. Ederlezi is the Romani name for the Feast of Saint George. It is celebrated on 6 May [O.S. 23 April] (occurring approximately 40 days after the spring equinox),[2]. The various Balkan spellings (Herdeljez, Erdelezi) are variants of the Turkish Hıdırellez. Versions The song is featured on Bijelo Dugme's 1988 album Ćiribiribela under the title ÄurÄ‘evdan (St. George's Day). Goran Bregović, the frontman of Bijelo Dugme, wrote the Serbo-Croatian lyrics. Bregović also recorded a version with Greek lyrics, titled Του Αη ΓιώÏγη (Tou Ai Giorgi, Saint George's), with Greek singer Alkistis Protopsalti in 1991.[3] The Greek lyrics are credited to Lina Nikolakopoulou. Bregović also worked with Turkish singer Sezen Aksu on her album titled Düğün ve Cenaze (A Wedding and a Funeral) featuring a version with Turkish lyrics, titled (Hıdrellez) in 1997. The lyrics were adapted by Aksu and Pakize Barışta. Finally, together with Polish singer Kayah he also recorded a version with Polish lyrics, titled Nie ma, nie ma ciebie. Bulgarian group Ku-Ku Band, with lead singer Slavi Trifonov, released the song on several albums with Bulgarian lyrics, titled Гергьовден (Gergyovden, St. George's Day); Serbo-Bulgarian lyrics, titled Свети Георги (Sveti Georgi, St. George); and Romani-Serbo-Bulgarian lyrics, titled Erdelezi. The band Beirut, Italian saxophonist Daniele Sepe, and the Boston-based band Bury Me Standing also do covers of Ederlezi. The Gypsy Rebels of Toronto, Ontario also cover the song, featuring the vocals of Micheal T. Butch and his band. Kroke released a version of the song as well. A Bosnian version was released by the folk-punk musical group No Smoking Orchestra on their 2007 album Time of the Gypsies, Punk Opera. A beatbox/trip version was released by French band Plume Tribu on their 2010 album Le Chainon Manquant. In popular culture Goran Bregović's version titled Ederlezi (Scena Djurdjevdana Na Rijeci) was famously used in Emir Kusturica's movie Time of the Gypsies.[1] It was performed by the Macedonian singer Vaska Jankovska.[4] Ederlezi (Scena Djurdjevdana Na Rijeci) also appeared in the movie Borat, although it has no connection to the authentic music of Kazakhstan. The text in brackets in Serbo-Croatian means: The scene of ÄurÄ‘evdan on the river, a description of a ÄurÄ‘evdan celebration on a river in the movie Time of the Gypsies where that song was used. Sacha Baron Cohen's movie does not have a ÄurÄ‘evdan river scene.[5][6] In both soundtrack albums – Time of the Gypsies and Stereophonic Musical Listenings That Have Been Origin in Moving Film Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan – it was credited to Goran Bregović, although he is not the author nor the singer of the song on these albums. However, he arranged the song. A.I. Rising (2018), a Serbian science fiction film, was originally entitled Ederlezi Rising. A portion of Ederlezi (Scena Djurdjevdana Na Rijeci) was also featured in Lazy Square's (or Lenivko Kvadratjić) unofficial Russian art film reimagining of The Simpsons popular opening sequence couch gag.[7][8] Lyrics

Piano,Trombone - Level 5 - SKU: A0.811191 Composed by Mark Narins. 20th Century,Contemporary,Romantic Period. Score and part. 101 pages. Gordon Cherry #6069485. Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.811191). Cherry Classics is pleased to introduce Concerto for Trombone and Orchestra 2020 (Piano reduction) by San Francisco based composer/conductor Mark Narins. The concerto is in 4 movements: I. Prayer, II. Meditation, III. Call and Response, IV. Exaltation Here is a description of the work by Mark Narins, the composer: Prayer: The first movement starts with a shimmering tremolo in the strings over which the silver voice of the trombone plays an arching phrase that lingers on an extended appoggiatura. The trombone is a lone mystic reaching for the sky and then falling perilously down to the pedal register. Later the orchestra breaks into a frenetic vamp over which the trombone plays intense ascending scales and passage work. The movement ends with an ascent to a high C#, moving to a final ringing high C. Meditation: After the harp lays out a series of arpeggiated chords, the trombone plays a warm, rich theme in the middle range. The following episodes are variations on this theme. The trombone moves into the upper register, floating with the ease of a lead trombone in a big band. The movement ends with an ascending yearning phrase reaching a high D as the soloist touches the sky and then comes gently back to earth. Call and Response: The orchestral accompaniment starts in an anxious, mysterious tonality. The trombone enters with a burst of energy playing a machine gun series of Fs. The movement develops into a series of short brilliant solo passages answered boldly by the orchestra. This movement showcases the stunning declamatory powers of the trombone. Exaltation: Movement 4 starts as an allegro with intense tremolos in the basses. The trombone breaks out into an articulated driving theme followed by several extended melodic passages. Midway in the movement the strings abruptly lay out a syncopated Latin dance rhythm over which the trombone climbs from the bottom to the top of its range in rapid triplets. In the final codetta the trombone accelerates the dance tempo and climaxes on a series of high C#s in a brilliant and joyous fashion. The concerto is 27 minutes in duration and is appropriate for advanced performers. This version with Piano is a reduction of the full Orchestral version (to be published in the near future). The new Trombone Concerto by Mark Narins is a very exciting piece with dramatic contrasts between the slow and fast sections. The move to the finish of the piece makes for a great wrap-up. It's a real blow for the player, really exploring the range of the instrument. It will be demanding and fun for the trombonist. Ken Andresen, New York freelance musician

Concert Band - Level 4 - SKU: A0.891956 Composed by A.E.Williams. Arranged by Stephen Davies. 20th Century,Standards. Score and Parts. 74 pages. Stephen Davies #6094485. Published by Stephen Davies (A0.891956).   CLARINET CONCERT CONCERTINO FOR WIND BAND I don’t normally enter long descriptions of my arrangements, nothing worse than seeing that little sign on the bottom right saying ‘see more’, however this piece has a rather interesting story that I’d like to share with you! It was maybe 8 or 9 years ago that I helped in the library of the Band Of The Guards Association, a group of musicians who were all members of the Household Division Bandsin London, that is to say the Grenadier, Coldstream, Scots, Irish, Welsh, Life Guards and Blues & Royals bands, chiefly known the world over for Changing The Guard at Buckingham Palace and many other ceremonial occasions. The Band Of The Guards Association were privileged to rehearse at the Royal Hospital Chelsea, home of the famous Chelsea Pensioners, renowned for their Redcoats and medals as veterans of the British Army. Our library of music for the band at the time was held in an air raid shelter deep in the cellars underneath the labyrinthine corridors of the old building built by Sir Christopher Wren back in the 1680’s. When I say ‘air raid shelter’, that is exactly what it was like! Can’t go into too much detail, but suffice it to say that it was like being transported back in time! But this is where the library was kept, complete with dusty shelves, blackout warnings, obsolete bulb replacements and tunnels to the Thames! The man in charge of the library was Mr.Gordon ‘Joe’ Stafford, former Solo Clarinet with HM Band Of The Welsh Guards (ret’d), a fine player of that instrument in his day, and revered as such even now. About 8 years ago, our ‘underground ‘ library was deemed a fire hazard, and we were ‘invited’ to move it elsewhere. As we had our practice room nearby in the Chelsea Hospital, we decided to relocate the whole library there, shelving being built and constructed by enthusiastic band members. Joe Stafford and myself were not particularly enthusiastic about this, but it had to be done. Having looked at the enormous amount of music to be moved, we thought about ditching some of the scores which would never be played again, for instance selections of musicals long forgotten, scores with multiple missing parts etc. Lots of that music went to local music organisations simply for sight reading purposes, and the more complete versions went to bands and orchestras to bolster their stock of scores. After the laborious sorting out in the air raid shelter, Joe and I had the unenviable task of discarding the scores and parts that were incomplete, defaced, or just basically useless. It was an arbitrary case of ‘keep or throw’, and at the time we were doing this, Joe was desperate for a pint in the bar! I agreed, and was anyway on my last batch of throwaways when I found a piece titled ‘Clarinet Concerto’, by A.E.Williams. Written in pencil, with ancient sellotape, and signed by all the people who played it many years ago, including the Soloist and composer, I thought that that should not be binned, so I kept it! Joe Stafford suggested that I should ‘get it out there’ , so I have. Incidentally it has a cracking Cadenza towards the end, it was a bit smudged in the original score, but I’ve filled in the gaps!! This would be an ideal addition to the band repertoire for Clarinet!

Concert Band - Level 3 - SKU: A0.814737 Composed by Richard E Brown. Contemporary. Score and parts. 149 pages. Dacker Music #3029427. Published by Dacker Music (A0.814737). Adirondack Sketches was commissioned by the Town of Lake Pleasant, which is located in the southern Adirondack Mountains of upstate New York, to celebrate its bicentennial. Written for the local community band (named A Pretty Good Band, Amy Winnie, director), it consists of four short movements, descriptive of my memories of places in and around my home town: 1. Sunrise over Lake Pleasant A gradual expansion of sound based on the horn call at m. 3 brings the lakeshore from predawn darkness to brilliant sunlight. 2. School Picnic at Moffit Beach A march/scherzo expresses the end-of-school exuberance of the school children. 3. Canoeing on Kunjamuck Creek A gently flowing passacaglia, with hints of arch form, depicts the calm, wooded creek. 4. Hiking up Hamilton Mountain An insistent ostinato bass suggests plodding footsteps as a fugue unfolds above, taking a group of excited hikers up the trail to the lookout atop the mountain. The price includes license to make as many copies of each part as necessary.Grade 3 - Duration 9:00
