Full Orchestra - SKU: A0.1008374 Composed by Claude Debussy. Arranged by Arkady Leytush. 20th Century. Score and parts. 24 pages. Arkady Leytush #4849775. Published by Arkady Leytush (A0.1008374). Estampes (Engravings) is the title of the triptych of three pieces which Debussy put together in 1903. The first complete performance was given on 9 January 1904 in the Salle Erard, Paris, by the young Spanish pianist Ricardo Viñes, who was already emerging as the prime interpreter of the new French music of Debussy and Ravel. The first two pieces were completed in 1903, but the third derives from an earlier group of pieces from 1894, collectively titled Images, which remained unpublished until 60 years after Debussy’s death, when they were printed as Images (oubliées). Estampes marks an expansion of Debussy’s keyboard style: he was apparently spurred to fuse neo-Lisztian technique with a sensitive, impressionistic pictorial impulse under the impact of discovering Ravel’s Jeux d’eau, published in 1902. The opening movement, ‘Pagodes’, is Debussy’s first pianistic evocation of the Orient and is essentially a fixed contemplation of its object, as in a Chinese print. This static impression is partly caused by Debussy’s use of long pedal-points, partly by his almost constant preoccupation with pentatonic melodies which subvert the sense of harmonic movement. He uses such pentatonic fragments in many different ways: in delicate arabesques, in two-part counterpoint, in canon, harmonized in fourths and fifths and as an underpinning for pattering, gamelan-like ostinato writing. Altogether the piece reflects the decisive impression made on him by hearing Javanese and Cambodian musicians at the 1889 Paris Exposition, which he had striven for years to incorporate effectively in music. In its final bars the music begins to dissolve into elaborate filigree.Just as ‘Pagodes’ was his first Oriental piece, so ‘La soirée dans Grenade’ was the first of Debussy’s evocations of Spain-that preternatural embodiment of an ‘imaginary Andalusia’ which would inspire Manuel de Falla, the native Spaniard, to go back to his country and create a true modern Spanish music based on Debussyan principles. Debussy’s personal acquaintance with Spain was virtually non-existent (he had spent a day just over the border at San Sebastian) and it is possible that one model for the piece was Ravel’s Habanera. Yet he wrote of this piece (to his friend Pierre Louÿs, to whom it was dedicated), ‘if this isn’t the music they play in Granada, so much the worse for Granada!’-and there is no debate about the absolute authenticity of Debussy’s use of Spanish idioms here. Falla himself pronounced it ‘characteristically Spanish in every detail’. ‘La soirée dans Grenade’ is founded on an ostinato that echoes the rhythm of the habanera and is present almost throughout. Beginning and ending in almost complete silence, this dark nocturne of warm summer nights builds powerfully to its climaxes. The melodic material ranges from a doleful Moorish chant with a distinctly oriental character to a stamping, vivacious dance-measure, taking in brief suggestions of guitar strumming and perfumed Impressionist haze. There is even a hint of castanets near the end. The piece fades out in a coda that seems to distil all the melancholy of the Moorish theme and a last few distant chords of the guitar. ‘Jardins sous la pluie’ is based on the children’s song ‘Nous n’rons plus au bois’ (We shan’t go to the woods): its original 1894 form was in fact entitled Quelques aspects de ‘Nous n’rons plus au bois’. The two versions are really two distinct treatments of the same set of ideas, but in ‘Jardins sous la pluie’ Estampes the earlier piece has been entirely rethought. The whole conception is more impressionistic, and subtilized. The teeming semiquaver motion is more all-pervasive, the tunes (for Debussy has added a second children’s song for treatment, ‘Do, do, l’enfant do’) more elusive and tinged sometimes with melancholy or nostalgia. The ending of the piece is entirely new. What it loses, perha.

Flute,Piano - Level 4 - SKU: A0.754993 Composed by Sy Brandon. 20th Century,Contemporary. Score and part. 28 pages. Sy Brandon #3235521. Published by Sy Brandon (A0.754993). The American Heritage Dictionary defines mosaic as a picture or decorative design made by setting small colored pieces, such as tile, in mortar. The musical ideas in this composition are treated in a similar fashion. The small colored pieces can be compared to the musical motifs of the composition. Sometimes these fragments form a larger unit and become a recognizable melody. At other times, the fragments are combined differently therefore creating a variation to the original idea. Throughout the three-movement composition, this technique has been employed to create loose formal structures that still have unity and variety through the use of contrasting sections. The three movements themselves create contrast by being organized in a fast-slow-fast arrangement. The musical language is tonal with frequent shifts in the tonal center and with harmony in thirds and fourths. It was been recorded by Cristina Ledford and Michael McGhee on the CD Mosaic on Emeritus Recordings label.

Piano,Soprano Saxophone - Level 5 - SKU: A0.1043445 Composed by Sy Brandon. 20th Century,Classical,Contemporary,Contest,Festival. Score and part. 28 pages. Sy Brandon #648123. Published by Sy Brandon (A0.1043445).

Para 4 voces mixtas y orquesta sinfónica - REDUCCIÓN A 4 voces mixtas y piano In I Centenario Provinciae Capucinae Nav. - Cant. - Arag. ORCHESTRAL SCORES ARE AVAILABLE FOR RENTAL The Te Deum for mixed choir and symphony orchestra by Lorenzo Ondarra (1931- 2012) was composed in 1998 at the request of the Provincial Curia of the Capuchin Friars, to commemorate the First Centenary, in 2000, of the Restoration of the Navarre, Cantabria and Aragón Capuchin Province. The main theme is the Gregorian melody of the Te Deum, a thanksgiving hymn, which combines the melody of the Tonus Solemnis and the Tonus Simplex. The Gregorian melody alternates between the choir and the orchestra, and develops in a free style as a paraphrase, with frequent melodic movements through parallel fourths and fifths: a typical feature of Ondarra’s compositional language. Modal features permeate the entire work, succeeding one another with tonal sections and even bitonal elements. Ondarra’s orchestration reflects an outstanding work, in which the wind instruments, together with the ubtlety of the woods and strings, plays an important role. Through its deep religiosity, the work combines recollection and the invitation to prayer with moments of brilliance in the treatment of the voices, which are exquisitely interwoven with the orchestral timbres. Obra ezaugarri modalez beterik dago, sekzio tonalak eraikiz edota elementu bitonalak izanik. Ondarraren orkestrazioak lan paregabea helarazten du, haize-instrumentuen presentzia nagusituz eta zur-instrumentuen eta hari instrumentuen presentzia sotilduz. Obra honek, sakoneko erlijiotasuna eta ahotsen eta orkestraren arteko nahasketa paregabea konbinatzen ditu.

Full Orchestra - Level 5 - SKU: A0.1143117 Composed by Piano Sonata No. 9 Op. 68 Alexander Scriabin. Arranged by Blake P. McCabe. 20th Century,New Age. Score and parts. 43 pages. Blake P. McCabe #743479. Published by Blake P. McCabe (A0.1143117). This composition is an arrangement of Scriabin’s Piano Sonata No. 9 Op 68. This piece has traditionally been nicknamed The Black Mass and was written for piano. Scriabin himself accepted this nickname for the piece and earlier on wrote a piece that would be nicknamed The White Mass. The Black mass was completed in 1913, a mere 2 years before his untimely death. The piece is built upon his ‘mystic chord, a hexachord built on fourths. Scriabin described this chord of embodying the divine and having a smoky tonal color, stemming from his own perception of sound as color. This piece moves from haunting sounds in its first motif to a chilling climax, returning to a mysterious murmur, and moves through multiple tempos to drag the listener along its march through its gothic vision, until finally returning to its first motif and leaving the listener haunted by the dark, colorful visions it invokes. To date of publication of this arrangement, I have yet to find an arrangement of The Black Mass for orchestra, band, nor symphony. The piece has many layers within it and includes complex polyrhythms typical of his music. The dark uncurrent, along with the form and choice of lack of direct key signature pose a unique challenge in the arrangement of this piece. I have deigned to maintain the feel of the original piano version, including his choice of time signatures and rhythmic choices while bringing it to life through the sounds of a modified symphony orchestra. This arrangement relies on the timbres of the instrument families to portray the emotional colors of the piece and particularly highlights the woodwind section of the symphony orchestra, along with the angelic sounds of the harp. Percussion is added through timpani, xylophone, glockenspiel, and multi-percussion to heighten the emotional experience of the arrangement.

My Prelude on the hymn tune Webb (Stand Up, Stand Up, for Jesus) was conceived for a three-manual organ. The tune is stated four times, twice in the right hand, once in the left hand, and once in the pedals. Each statement is in a different key, the first in G major, then B major, then D major, and finally E major. In the first, second and fourth statements reiterated chords in triplet rhythm provide the accompaniment, while in the third statement the accompaniment is provided by parallel fourths in duplet rhythm. I have provided a full-length recording to aid the prospective buyer in the decision-making process. I encourage you to search the Sheet Music Plus or the Sheet Music Direct website for other hymn arrangements of mine, some for organ and others for piano.

Colores de un otoño incipiente -- Colors of an incipient autumn seven somewhat abstract pieces for piano Recording of Colores de un otoño incipiente - piano in several platforms Colores de un otoño incipiente -- on Spotify In this work, an idea that has haunted me for a long time crystallizes: that the titles of the individual pieces are read like lines of a poem. Colors of an incipient autumn The day declines. Coppery with old leaves, the earth awaits. Innocence Parched by the long vigils. Frugal in the face of excess, He resigned himself to the unfinished And he left a hole of light in this nothingness. Such a poem alludes without great subtlety to decadence and aging. The title Apergaminada por las largas vigilias is taken from a poem by Pedro Lastra. Y dejó un hueco de luz en esta nada comes from a micropoem attributed to Alejandro Güerri, written in memory of Javier Adúriz. This seventh piece, transparent and delicate, pictures a being definitively transformed into light. The idea of desmesura (excess) arises from the prologue by Javier Adúriz to his book Solos de conciencia (1985): Faced with the excess of death, consciousness perceives the weakness of its willful affirmation, the one for which it feels itself unique and safe from all decrepitude. Adúriz was one of the fundamental figures in my artistic training. And apparently he still is. Musically, this cycle of works abounds in harmony of chords by fourths in a minimalist neoclassical aesthetic. The way of working texturally with the piano as an instrument - my instrument - highlights the pedal, the resonances, the third dimension of sound. These seven somewhat abstract pieces were composed at the end of 2019 in and around Bremen, in several cases with my new-born daughter Laura in my arms, trying to put her at to sleep and staying asleep. This explains the cautious nature of the music and its prudent dynamics that never reach a mezzoforte. There were several unsuccessful attempts to release this recording (initially planned for September 2020, at the beginning of autumn in the northern hemisphere). Finally, the album will be released (on Spotify and other streaming platforms) on 22 April 2022, coinciding with what would be my father's 103rd birthday. It is also autumn but in the southern hemisphere. Recorded on a Steinway B grand piano (serial number: 568208) at the Musikschule Bremen (Germany) with two Neumann KM-184 microphones. Recording and mastering technician: Alexander Derben. For the artwork, the impressive photographer and visual storyteller Leon Drago, from London, has kindly authorised the use of his photograph Pathway, The Garden House and Pergola, Hampstead Heath extension, London. The recording of Colores de un otoño incipiente (with the composer on piano) can be found here: Colores de un otoño incipiente - piano

Organ - Level 4 - SKU: A0.1349683 Composed by John Burkett. Arranged by John Burkett. Classical,Contemporary,Sacred. Score. 5 pages. John Burkett #934452. Published by John Burkett (A0.1349683). My Prelude on the hymn tune Revive Us Again (We Praise Thee O God) was conceived for a three-manual organ and has a somewhat challenging pedal part. The harmonic idiom reflects the influence of certain 20th century techniques (such as building chords by fourths), which create a sound world that, while still tonal, embraces somewhat greater dissonance than traditional practice allowed. Modern ears though are accustomed to, and even enjoy, such sounds. The introduction and interludes are based upon a rhythmic motive taken from the hymn tune, which itself is treated canonically at one point. In another instance, even two different phrases are vertically combined. I have provided a full-length recording to aid the prospective buyer in the decision-making process. I encourage you to search the Sheet Music Plus or the Sheet Music Direct website for other hymn arrangements of mine, some for organ and others for piano.
