In Little Seeds you will find new hymns from my heart. My devotional life is given to you in my hymnwriting. During the past three years I have been writing songs for the unity of the church - songs reminding us of our baptism. I have been writing biblical story hymns for lesser-known characters. I have written paperless songs that may be easily memorized. I set a Rumi poem. There are new hymns for Christian missions from everywhere to everywhere. You will find new texts and musical settings for folk songs from around the world. I hope I have treated these with the love and respect they deserve. You will find alternate arrangements of some songs that may be useful in different settings. Lim Swee Hong composed three tunes for this collection at my request. I am also pleased to include Lianne Tan's first published hymn tune in Little Seeds

Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 3 - SKU: A0.787250 Composed by Greg Bartholomew. Concert,Contemporary,Folk,Patriotic,Standards. Octavo. 16 pages. Burke & Bagley #49747. Published by Burke & Bagley (A0.787250). SONG OF THE MOUNTAINS is a setting for mixed (SSAATB) choir with piano accompaniment of text adapted from prose by American naturalist John Muir (1838-1914). Commissioned for the Combined Choirs of St. Joseph's School, Seattle, directed by Rick Boyle, who premiered the piece at Benaroya Hall's Nordstrom Recital Hall on May 6, 2004, in the second annual New Works New Hope concert for the benefit of Gilda's Club Seattle. The piece was revised in 2007 and the premiere of the revised score was given on November 16, 2007, by the Queens College Chorus, Cindy Bell conducting, at the Aaron Copland School of Music in New York. It was selected by the Portland Vocal Consort for their 2013 Best of the Northwest program. Duration ca. 6 minutes. Conductor Cindy Bell says, Driven by a refreshing text of American naturalist John Muir, Bartholomew has created an accessible work that flows easily through both key and meter changes, and features expressive, lyric melodies contrasted by exciting rhythmic drive. Song of the Mountains is almost cantata-like, or through-composed, in that each line of Muir's text receives equal and interesting interpretation. Occasional use of the triplet rhythm creates both a relaxing effect (grasses cease waving) and driving sense of forward motion (Vibrating!). Effective use of dynamics and interweaving of choral parts make for each section having a musical life of its own. Nature's peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their freshness into you, and the storms their energy, while cares drop off like autumn leaves. Here is calm so deep, grasses cease waving. Everything in wild nature fits into us, as if truly part and parent of us. The sun shines not on us but in us. The rivers flow not past, but through us, thrilling, tingling, vibrating every fiber and cell of the substance of our bodies, Making them glide and sing. The trees wave and the flowers bloom in our bodies as in our souls, and every bird song, wind song, and tremendous storm song of the rocks in the heart of the mountain, is our song, our very own, and sings our love.

The Tow Path (Divertimento for Woodwind Sextet) is a chamber tone poem composed in 1983-1984. As far as can be determined, Cascarino's instrumentation (two flutes, oboe, clarinet, and two bassoons) is unique in the wind chamber music repertoire. The work is cast in a single movement employing a variety of meters and tempi. In a letter to the bassoonist/ conductor Christopher Weait, dated 24 January 1990, Cascarino wrote: The specific tow path I had in mind is located on the Delaware River at New Hope, Pennsylvania.Although my work has no specific program, the moods and feelings aroused at the various times of day, at this beautiful spot, I hope, have been expressed. Bassoonist Otto Eifert conducted the first performance of The Tow Path at the College-Conservatory of the University of Cincinnati on 13 November 1984 in Corbett Auditorium with an ensemble of the Conservatory's students.

Published by Yoel Epstein (A0.773303). I wish you the greatest pleasure playing these arrangements of traditional Thanksgiving songs. Thanksgiving is one of the most beautiful of holidays, a holiday filled with joy and music. We Gather Together to Ask the Lord's Blessing: Written in 1597 by Dutch composer Adrianus Valerius to celebrate Holland's victory over Spain, the tune was brought to American shores by the early Dutch settlers. Poet Theodore Baker wrote a new version of the lyrics in 1894, which became the standard Thanksgiving version. Over the River and Through the Wood: Lydia Maria Child, an outspoken abolitionist and advocate for Indian rights, wrote this poem in 1845. It was set to music by an unknown composer. Let All Things Now Living (The Ash Grove) This traditional Welsh melody (Llwyn Onn or The Ash Grove in Welsh) has inspired numerous lyricists to write words to the hauntingly beautiful tune. The poem by Katherine Davis, written in 1939, is the text most associated with Thanksgiving. Amazing Grace: Written by reprobate sailor John Newton in 1779. Known for his profanity, vulgarity and venery, he was imprisoned, beaten, and enslaved, before he reformed, and became a leading minister and hymn-writer. This is one of the most popular hymns ever written. This Land is Your Land: A traditional American tune, made famous by folksinger Woody Guthrie in 1940. Guthrie wrote the words as a rebuff to the song God Bless America, the huge hit by songwriter Irving Berlin. As a counter to Berlin's drum-beating patriotism, Guthrie would occasionally add politically charged verses expressing his support for communism. I hope you enjoy playing this as much as I enjoyed writing it. Her earliest memory was watching her mother play classical piano. Sydney's father is a jazz pianist, so both jazz and classical influences came at an early age. Her strong sense of artistry has evolved from years of composing music that expresses a wide range of emotions. Sydney is a master at creating musical landscapes which evoke strong imagery.A natural composer, Stevens finished her music composition degree after years of honing her artistry in the absence of outside influences. After completing her formal training in music composition, Sydney graduated cum laude from University of Redlands in California, receiving the prestigious Sigma Alpha Iota Composer's Award. Stevens also studied music composition at University of York, England and with composer and recording artist Bill Douglas in Boulder, Colorado. In addition to her large body of piano works and vocal songs, Sydney has composed music for chamber and symphony orchestra. Born in Los Angeles, California and raised in Seattle, Washington, Stevens currently resides in the beautiful Columbia River Gorge. A prolific composer, Stevens also teaches private piano lessons to students of all ages.

Published by Imagine Music - Digital (IZ.WES151-S). 9 x 12 in inches.In accepting this commission, my thoughts were to create a work that incorporated the rich history of Chautauqua and its pure, innocent, ruralAmericana experience. Seeing its heritage was grounded in a nondenominational understanding of God, which incorporated both secular andspiritual experience, it seemed fitting to arrange a work that bound these two ideals into one work. The arrangement opens with a stately expressionof valor, dignity, and innocence lost - developing gently through a series of tonal and textural adaptations of the hymn tune until it finds a stately tuttiexpression for the ensemble. But the end is delayed by the arrival of a false cadence at rehearsal D, which embraces a 'river dance' with a variety ofpercussive features. The idea here is one of 'beauty from ashes' and 'joy coming in the new mornings dew.' The reeds are now used to express thebagpipe above the thrusts of the percussion. Soon, the hymn tune is heard again, supported by the rhythmic dance in reeds, brass, and percussion -now filled with the joy of community participation. Each counter-melodic line is somewhat of a statement now - and, must be heard in itsuniqueness. It is as if the birds have begun to sing again, each in their own language, of the wonderment surrounding the new day. Hope has onceagain sprung upon the community through music.Take your time through the reminiscent, Americana moments, and enjoy the dance thoroughly!
