Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 3 - SKU: A0.1032111 Composed by Eric Dowler. 20th Century,A Cappella,Contemporary,Holiday,Patriotic. Octavo. 8 pages. Relwood Music #4363441. Published by Relwood Music (A0.1032111). This piece features a collection of memorable quotes from America’s past. From documents, poems, and speeches, soloists recite phrases that have stuck with us over the centuries. These words define the spirit of American freedom and our collective desire for a better life. Despite the changing keys, time signatures, and moods, the song is tied together by one key idea: We the People of the United States. For a capella choir and soloists.

Full Orchestra - Level 2 - SKU: A0.1465707 Composed by Stanley M Hoffman. Arranged by Stanley M Hoffman. 21st Century,Classical,Patriotic. 136 pages. Stanleymhoffman.com #1044317. Published by stanleymhoffman.com (A0.1465707). Based on one of only several poems written by my mother, Jewish Holocaust survivor Rita Hoffman of blessed memory (1927–2018), Only from Blood Does Freedom Grow echoes the words of Hatikvah (The Hope), the national anthem of Israel. I have to believe that she wrote this poem around 1948 because of how it is worded. I of course knew the source of inspiration for this poem when I reread it not long ago—something I had not done since the 1990s—but its having been inspired by Hatikvah was really driven home to me by a Facebook comment. That comment inspired me to compose a piece in which the opening and closing sections are based on the opening melody of Hatikvah, but in which the middle section is newly composed. “Israel was not created in order to disappear - Israel will endure and flourish. It is the child of hope and the home of the brave. It can neither be broken by adversity nor demoralized by success. It carries the shield of democracy, and it honors the sword of freedom.” —John F. KennedyMy mother’s brief memoirs are housed at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, DC. https://collections.ushmm.org/search/catalog/irn502129—Stanley M. Hoffman, 25 June 2024—Only from Blood Does Freedom Grow For so many years a voice sounded in Jewish hearts saying,“We want to have a home, we want to have a life again.”Enough blood has already streamed through rivers, the blood shed by our brothers *[and sisters],they, who for freedom of strangers and nation died. Now, the dream we dreamt for a long time has been awakened in us.We want to fight for our state, our country. The moment that we have been waiting for and been praying fortwo thousand years has brought us a spark of hope.We must not despair, for we are nevertheless Jews.We must and must want to persevere.A time will come which itself will become a symbol of our tragedy, and which will remain forever in our hearts -a burning flame, and a joyful feast. —Rita Hoffman (1927–2018)Words: © Copyright 1948 by The Estate of Rita Hoffman. All rights reserved. Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 4 - SKU: A0.835445 Composed by Stuart Brown. Concert,Contemporary. Octavo. 17 pages. Stuart Brown Music #1921315. Published by Stuart Brown Music (A0.835445). Duration 2'35, this may work for church services if the subject is a celebration of freedom, although it is intended primarily for concert use. This is a dazzling piece of choral music, for the choir looking for something with wow factor. Arranged by the composer from the third song in his Idylls cycle, the music assimilates the concept of freedom in a way that is dazzling in its effect: conventionally modal choir harmonies yet with total fluidity of modulation; having a regular metre and yet always trying to break free from it; a piano accompaniment that is a work of art in its own right (and needs to be played as such), a rippling tapestry of sound whose rhythms cut across those of the choir yet whose harmonies complement the voices perfectly. Together the piano and choir demonstrate more clearly than could words alone, that freedom and diversity working together can achieve great things. This is a celebration of liberty and its place in the civilisations of the United Kingdom, the United States of America and all other countries where freedom of expression is valued and inspires people to majestic works. The choir parts are of intermediate difficulty. The piano part requires a fairly proficient pianist. Well worth the effort and thoroughly recommended.

Choral Choir (SAB) - Level 3 - SKU: A0.1208780 By Daniel Carter. By Daniel Carter. Arranged by Daniel Carter. Historic,Holiday,March,Patriotic,Traditional. Octavo. 5 pages. Daniel Carter #806883. Published by Daniel Carter (A0.1208780). Francis Bellamy (1855–1931) penned the Pledge of Allegiance for a campaign by the Youth's Companion, a patriotic circular and magazine. The Pledge is a noble contribution to the values and standards of American citizenship and has been recited daily in classrooms and public events for over a century. Regardless of periods of national strife and perilous times, it stands as a symbol of goodness, hope, opportunity, and freedom, with liberty and justice for all. In 1952 the Pledge was changed to add the words “under God.†A debate about the appropriateness of including these words because of the division of church and state remains, however, this setting includes options for both possibilities in favor of freedom of choice for all Americans. This arrangement is designed for school choirs and choruses of all kinds, including the higher education sector as well as civic and church. The SAB part-writing is in manageable voice ranges and not difficult to learn and perform. The original concert choir setting of this piece was performed by the world-famous Mormon Tabernacle Choir in July of 1995 on their “Music and the Spoken Word†broadcast.

Choral,Mixed Chorus Choir,Choral - Level 4 - SKU: A0.1452243 Composed by Alan Bullard. 21st Century,Classical. 90 pages. Colne Edition / BullardMusic #1031565. Published by Colne Edition / BullardMusic (A0.1452243). Alan Bullard's Canticle of Freedom (A Song for Peace), written in 1999 and first performed in 2000, is a prayer for a new millennium of freedom and peace, and each of the four movements takes as its starting point one of the verses from the nineteenth-century Christmas hymn 'It came upon the midnight clear'. It is scored for mixed choir, children's or youth choir, soprano and baritone soloists and a moderate size orchestra. The first movement tells of a solemn, still, and peaceful earth, and the second of a jubilant heaven. The third movement speaks of 'two thousand years of wrong' - the wars and persecution that have disfigured the last two millennia - and the last movement leads us from death to life, with a positive and joyful hope for the future: in the words of the hymn: 'When peace shall over all the earth its ancient splendours fling'. The text has been selected from a variety of poets and sources, ranging from mediaeval times to the present day. The score available here is the vocal score, with a piano reduction of the orchestral parts: for avaialablity of full score and parts please contact alanbullardmusic@gmail.com or colneedition@gmail.comThe link is to a YouTube scrolling scorewww.alanbullard.co.uk.

This patriotic piece was written to honor those who have been willing to sacrifice everything to fight for the freedoms that we all enjoy in the United States of America. The powerful words serve as a reminder to those of us who have not served in the Armed Forces that our freedom was bought with a heavy price and that we should be thankful for those who give up having a normal life to defend our great nation. The lyrics were composed by Opelika, Alabama resident, Doug Long, who was currently serving as Assistant to the Music Minister at Purpose Baptist Church in Opelika. The Music Minister at the time was Rev. Tim Addy, who put the words to music. .

Voice and piano - Medium - SKU: MQ.8492-12E Composed by MeeAe Cecilia Nam and Theodore Gouvy. Instrument part. 7 pages. E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital #8492-12E. Published by E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital (MQ.8492-12E). French.Gouvy was known for writing some of the most beautiful melodies of the Romantic period. His style is a combination of German forms and an early French romantic harmonic structure. His writing for the piano in the songs is totally unified in mood and description with the voice, just as the piano is in Schubert’s songs. The equal partnership of the vocal line and piano interact closely to bring the poetry vividly into life with unimaginable artistic heights and unbridled passion. This volume includes Gouvy songs set to 18 poems of Philippe Desportes (1546–1606), and 18 poems of Moritz Hartmann (1821–1872). The elements of Romantic love poetry, such as enchanting love and its pain, and the personifying of nature, are fluently described with a great sensitivity in both voice and piano. Gouvy’s melody stir up the imagination because of his special treatment of words through a distinguishable and melodious vocal line, and his story telling and poetic treatment and development of the piano accompaniment. His compositional artistry places him in the upper echelons of art-song composers. One should note that Gouvy had a special fondness for the 16th Century poetry of La Pléiade (a group of Renaissance French poets, led by Pièrre de Ronsard (1524–1585). Desportes was truly the heir to Ronsard; however his work, when compared to that of Ronsard, is filled with greater abstraction and greater fluidity. Desportes seems to avoid any of the passionate anger that is occasionally characteristic of La Pléiade. This may be an indication that Desportes lived in a less distressed time. It also seems necessary to point out that he learned much in his early career by copying and studying the earlier works of La Pléiade. This has led some scholars to label him as a plagiarist, but it is important to realize that all the members of La Pléiade copied from each other when they wished to learn something new, and truly understand the style of the other poets in the group. Gouvy’s only choice of poems from his contemporaries, were the works of Moritz Hartmann (1821–1872), a good friend of Gouvy’s. Much of his poetry was strongly political in support of freedom of the individual. He traveled to Leipzig in 1845, but when the authorities discovered a volume of patriotic poems entitled Kelch und Schwert (Chalice and Sword), he fled to Belgium and France. It is at this time that he possibly met Théodore Gouvy. Eighteen poems of Hartmann were translated from German to French by the French poet, Adolph Larmande, of whom very little is known. Pierre Toussaint Adolphe Larmande seems to have been a rather obscure poet and musician. We know that he taught music theory at the Paris Conservatory at the same time Anton Reicha and Michele Carafa were on the faculty. We also know that in 1847 he married an English woman by the name of Marie Caroline Bradley. There are random documents, such as a Certificate of Arrival in London, England, in 1837, but there are no birth and death dates given, and that includes his obituary notice.

Voice and piano - Medium - SKU: MQ.8492-26E Composed by MeeAe Cecilia Nam and Theodore Gouvy. Instrument part. 7 pages. E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital #8492-26E. Published by E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital (MQ.8492-26E).
