Knut Nystedt's De Profundis was chosen as 'The Work of the Year' in 1965 - an award given by the society of Norwegian Composers - and was elected by the jury of the International Society for Contemporary Music for a performance at The World Music Festival Stockholm in 1966. This is an exciting choral work for SATB (divisi) chorus (a cappella) providing a challenge for the advanced choir.

AriseAct II iopens with dairymaids and men singing this chorus as they prepare for the day's work. (The text for the outer sections is based on a folksong quoted in the novel; the mkiddlesectiopn employs the Hardy poem 'Gallant's Song.')III.
