Jacques Ibert (1890-1962) studied at the Paris Conservatoire before embarking upon a successful composing career. Histoires increased his popularity when it was published in the mid-1920s and Guy Deplus (b. 1924) a prominent French clarinetist arranged the compilation for Clarinet and Piano in 2004 to great acclaim. Histoires for Clarinet and Piano is made up of six movements; 1) The Leader of the Gold Turtles 2) The Little White Donkey 3) In the Sad House 4) The Crystal Cage 5) The Market of Fresh Water and 6) The Procession of Balkis. Composed for the Paris Conservatoire contest  Fantaisie Orientale is a piece by Max d'Ollone for Bb Clarinet and Piano accompaniment. Really melodious this piece is quite complex to play. This work starts slowly with some accelerations followed by a more quiet and melancholic part. The end is more lyrical and features some trills and numerous accidentals. Max d'Ollone (1875-1959) is a French musician who won the first Grand Prix de Rome in 1897. He was a great professor and composer who produced numerous pieces including ballets symphonies and chamber music.

Dance Preludes for Clarinet and Piano is an impressive chamber work by Witold Lutoslawski. The composer and violin virtuoso Johann Stamitz not only established the world-famous Mannheim school in the 18th century but is known among clarinettists above all for presumably being the first to present them with a true solo concerto. Even though Stamitz left it at just this one concerto, it has enjoyed great popularity since its rediscovery in the 20th century and has become a standard work in the concert repertoire. Due to its moderate technical demands, it is ideally suited for music students as a ?first? solo concerto, and as preparation for the more demanding solo parts of Mozart, Weber and Spohr. Seiber's life and work linked and developed many diverse musical influences, from the Hungarian tradition of Bartók and Kodály, to Schönberg and serial music, to jazz, folksong, film and lighter music (rewarded by an Ivor Novello Prize for By The Fountains of Rome). Robert Schumann wrote his Fantasy Pieces for clarinet and piano in the course of two days in February 1849. Only a few days later they were premiered by Clara Schumann and the Dresden clarinetist Johann Gottlieb Kotte. Initially choosing the title Soirée Pieces for his works, Schumann finally decided to have them published as Fantasy Pieces, thereby emphasizing their poetical aspects. These connotations are also at the centre of clarinetist Elisabeth Eichenberg's notes on interpretation with special reference to the contemporary aesthetics of the clarinet sound. The edition is based on the first edition published in 1849 and also incorporates subsequent corrections in Schumann's personal copy. The compositional manuscript that has survived served as an important corrective. Besides the original clarinet part in A the edition also includes a transposed part for the B clarinet in order to make these standard works of the Romantic clarinet repertoire available to a wider circle of the clarinet community. / Clarinette Et Piano
