'Klassik für Kinder' wants to introduce clarinet pupils to the beauty of Baroque, Classical and Romantic concert literature. Cautiously, not only original clarinet literature was taken up, but catchy tunes and themes from the opera (The Freeshooter, The Magic Flute and others) and the concert hall (Four Seasons, Capriccio Italy, Reverie and others) were used as well. The edition starts with a piece from the Renaissance period, followed by the great composers of the Baroque, European Classical and Romantic eras and completed by several discoveries off the common concert programmes (Blasius, Reinagel, Sullivan). Four centuries of music history which will make the pupils enjoy classical music. The pieces are presented in easy arrangements and can be mastered after about two years of tuition, with the three-line octave being left out. Contenu - V. Sérénade En Trio is a piece for Flute Clarinet and Bassoon by Eugène Bozza. Lasting 14 minutes this is a really nice work for concerts and recitals. It is divided into three parts: 1. Entrée ? Allegro Vivo 2. Fuguette ? starting with the Bassoon ?Expressivo? 3. Guigue ? Vivace This volume features the score and parts. Eugène Bozza won different prizes at the Conservatoire de Paris such as the First Prizes for the Violin conducting and composition as well as the Grand Prix de Rome. He composed severaloperas chamber works and ballets among others.

Par GAUBERT. Philippe Gaubert (1879-1941) was a distinguished performer on the Flute. It comes as no surprise, therefore, that his compositions for woodwind are at the forefront of the musical family's repertoire, Fantasy for Clarinet being no exception. After a prominent career as a flautist with the Paris Opera, Gaubert was appointed as professor of Flute at the Paris Conservatoire, as well as principal conductor of leading orchestras. It was during this time that Gaubert composed, including his Fantasy for Clarinet, which he wrote towards the beginning of his career. Addressing many technicalfeatures, including flourishing semiquaver passages, a wide range, lyrical melodies, intervals, chromaticism and complex rhythms, Fantasy is a challenging, yet riveting and stirring piece for aspiring advanced clarinetists./ Répertoire / Clarinette et Piano

Frantisek Jan Skroup (b. 1801 1862) is known to the public first and foremost as the composer of the Czech national anthem. He was also music director of the Estates Theater in Prague during 1837 57 where he conducted major works from the international opera repertoire and composed a series of works. Taken from his small lesser known output of chamber music the Trio In E-Flat Major Op.27 (BA 9521) and the Trio facile in F major Op.28 (BA 9522) are being published for the first time in Urtext editions.The Trio In E-Flat Major is dedicated to the pianist and composer Sigismond Goldschmidt. It is stylistically reminiscent ofBeethoven?s chamber music; its unison opening recalls for example Beethoven?s famous ?Gassenhauer Trio?. Skroup dedicated the ?Trio facile? to Jeanette Hoffmann the daughter of the Prague publisher Johann Hoffmann.As the title suggests this is an accessible piece in the Biedermeier style which was intended for music making in the home and for lessons.Both these pleasing compositions which represent unknown repertoire of Czech chamber music from the period of the national revival movement can be performed in two different scorings. It is a sceneof devastation and despair and also it seemed to me of latent anger and hostility... butabove it all a serene blue sky beckons. So perhaps even in the darkest moments there is aglimmer of hope - the possibility of change.This idea became the starting point for this work - Towards the Blue - a mini concerto forclarinet who eventually becomes the leader of the group.The work starts without the clarinet and all is desolate yet fiercely argumentative discordant and uncomfortable. Suddenly the offstage clarinet is heard and the players insurprise are quietened. However when the clarinet enters and approaches with a lyricalmusical motif some of the players respond others resist. Gradually the clarinetpersuades the dissident voices to join him in a spirit of co-operation and harmony.A brief memory of the opening desolation casts a momentary shadow which is quicklydispelled by the coda marked Gioioso.'Thea Musgrave (May 13th 2010)Parts available for hire separately
