Paul Dukas (1865-1935) was a composer who had little self-confidence and was very self-critical. As a result of this he destroyed the manuscripts of all but seven large and five small works. Luckily he kept what is now his bestknow composition, the symphonic scherzo L'apprenti sorcier (The Sorcerer's Apprentice). He also came very close to destroying the manuscript of his ballet music La Peri (The Fairy). This was however rescued by his friends. Thus wecan still enjoy this magnificent fanfare which was originally used as an opener for the ballet. Jeremiah Clarke's (1674--1707) Trumpet Voluntary was originally written for organ and trumpet and is frequently heard as a processional at wedding ceremonies. Franz Schubert's (1797--1828) Marche Militaire was originally written as a piano duet but has been reset for various instrumental ensembles. The Butterfly that Stamped is a story from the anthology Just So Stories, written by Rudyard Kipling for his daughter who suffered constant bad health. The book inspired composer Maxim Aulio to compose this work which is in a French impressionistic style. The piece opens with a beautiful palace surrounded by the impressive gardens of King Solomon. It is in these gardens that the baritone saxophone makes its appearance representing King Solomon himself, the flute representing the butterfly couple, the clarinet representing Queen Balkis and the trumpet the djin.The Butterfly that Stamped - Der Schmetterling, der aufstampfte“ - ist eine von zwölf Erzählungen aus dem Band Just So Stories, den Rudyard Kipling, der berühmte Autor des Dschungelbuchs, Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts für seine kranke Tochter schrieb. Aujourd’hui encore ses Histoires comme ça enchantent par leur drôlerie et leur poésie ; de délicieux récits d’animaux entre l’Inde et l’Afrique initialement écrits pour sa fille, Joséphine, qui mourut en 1899 des suites d’unegrippe.Le Papillon qui tapait du pied est un des douze contes du recueil Histoires comme ça. Maxime Aulio s’en est inspiré pour créer une œuvre qui s’inscrit dans la tradition de l’impressionnisme musical français. Le saxophone baryton solo incarne le Roi Salomon, fils de David ; les fl tes jouent le couple de papillons ; une clarinette est la Reine Balkis - la Sage Balkis de Saba - tandis que les trompettes et les cornets représentent les Djinns. Although he was born in Split, Croatia, of Belgian descent, Franz von Suppé’s nationality is defined less by his actual descendents than by the country and city where he lived and worked and had the great majority of his success, the Austrian capital, Vienna. It was here where, with assistance from the Johan Strausses and Franz Lehar, he helped to assure Vienna’s reputation as the operetta capital of the world. He achieved this by pioneering operetta as a major medium for the theatre. The overture to Light Cavalry is one of his two most famous works, the other being the Poet and Peasant Overture written as incidental music for a play of the same name.Der Schauplatz von Leichte Kavallerie, einer komischen Oper in zwei Akten aus dem Jahr 1866, ist Ungarn. Ãrpád Balázs (*1937) composed the first version of Rhapsody for Hungarian cimbalom and concert band in 2001; in 2021, on the encouragement by a Japanese marimba player he arranged the solo part for marimba, and therefore the opportunities for the work to beplayed have significantly widened. The Rhapsody follows the one-movement structure created by Franz Liszt. The beginning solo section of the cimbalom (or marimba) returns before the coda as a pillar of the form. The composition, which can be divided into five sections, develops and works with a Lydian tetrachordal motif (G-A-B-C sharp) in different characters, stretching the span of music from a simple, children's song-like appearance to an obstinate ritual dance. In conclusion, the Rhapsody is a passionately emotional lyric orchestral poem rich in colours and characters, which has a place on the repertoire of every concert band playing quality music.

The Carl Fischer heritage of publishing fine band music has been a fact of music publishing almost since the firm's founding in 1872.
