Ever since the beautiful melodies from Mozart's operas were heard for the first time, people have wanted to play them at home too. In the course of time, numerous arrangements for two flutes have appeared. The editors have selected twenty of the most successful, and have added an original version of the first movement of Eine kleine Nachtmusik.

3. (N.A. Variations on a Mozart tune, for Flute and Piano is a piece composed by Reynaldo Hahn and dedicated to Philippe Gaubert. Composed after a tune by Mozart, this piece features a main theme and a total of seven variations which follow one another. The Flute score features many trills, especially in the Variation 2, some fast rhythms and up to 6 flats on the key for the Variation 4. It would require a good mastery of techniques for these challenging parts. Reynaldo Hahn was a naturalised French composer, conductor, theatre director and singer. Best known as a composer of songs, he also wrote many pieces and melodies for different instruments..

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's (1756-1791) Flute Concerto in G was written by the composer in 1778. The concerto remains widely studied and performed on the flute, making it one of the most important concerti in the instrument's repertoire. Paul Taffanel and Philippe Gaubert's composed cadenzas for the work are essential to all performers of the concerto. Concerto in G is in three movements; 1. Allegro maestoso, 2. Adagio ma non troppo, and 3. Rondo: Tempo di Menuetto. The first and last movements are in the tonic key, whilst the second movement is in the subdominant key of D major. All three movements contain a cadenza which initially would have been left for the performer to improvise. However, cadenzas have since been written, including those of Taffanel and Gaubert. Both were prominent flautists of their time and their understanding of the flute concerto repertoire is second to none, making their cadenzas well-informed and essential to performers of the concerto.
