André Jolivet (1905-1974) composed this Concerto for Flute and Strings in 1949. Initially written for Flute and String Orchestra this version contains the scores for the Flute and the Piano and lasts 12 minutes. This strong>Concerto for Flute and Strings is quite unusual as it was only created in two movements each divided into a slow introduction and a fast main part. Used as one of the main pieces of the Geneva music contest “Concours de Genève” in 2014 this concerto requires advanced skills. André Jolivet is a French composer who was really inspired by theAntiquity and had a strong interest for atonality. He also wrote many chamber music pieces eleven concertos some orchestral and some vocal music.

fur Flote Streichorchester Klavier Harfe & Schlagzeug-Jindrich Feld (1925-2007).Concerto for Flute and String Orchestra Piano Harp and Percussions.The Flute Concerto by Jindrich Feld (1925-2007) belongs among the most frequently performed compositions of its author.It was created in 1954 in close cooperation with the Czech Philharmony flutist Lutobor Hlavsa and its first interpreter was the famous French flutist Jean Pierre Rampal.The Orchestra arrangement is very special; the solo Flute is accompanied by Strings Piano Harp and Percussions. The Piano part of the concerto was prepared by the composer himself and it is now published in its fourth edition. The pocketversion of the musical score was printed in 1960.

2ème Symphonie  “Le Double” is a symphonic piece for Orchestra and chamber orchestra composed by Henri Dutilleux. It was commissioned for the 75th birthday of the Boston Symphony Orchestra in 1959. The piece features three movements which consists in dialogues between the Orchestra and the Chamber Orchestra: I. Animato ma misterioso II. Andantino sostenuto III. Allegro fuocoso — Calmato This is the conductor's score which also includes all parts. Henri Dutilleux was internationally acclaimed for his work winning prizes such as the Gold Medal ofthe Royal Philharmonic Society and the UNESCO's International Rostrum of Composers amongst many others. His work also includes a Piano sonata two symphonies the Cello concerto 'Tout un monde lointain' (A whole distant world) the Violin concerto 'L'arbre des songes' (The tree of dreams) and the string quartet 'Ainsi la nuit' (Thus the night).

Sir Edward Elgar was born in Worcester in 1857. Until the outstanding success of the 'Enigma' Variations in 1899 he was considered a 'provincial' composer - and a largely self taught one at that.In the earlier part of Elgar's career as a composer he wrote several short pieces which became very popular indeed. Chanson de nuit is one such the second of a pair (Chanson de Matin the other being) which carried his name far and wide before his larger orchestra works appeared. It was published in several versions at once: for string orchestra for small orchestra for violin and piano and so on - so it is almost impossible to say with any degree of certainty which was theoriginal version. This arrangement makes a useful addition to the repertoire for flute.

Coming from a wealthy family, a private orchestra often premiered his works at chamber concerts held in his home. The Sinfonia No. 4, arranged for flute orchestra by Shaul Ben-Meir, is originally in the key of C minor but has been transposed up a whole step for this arrangement. Pour l'adorateur de Debussy que je suis depuis la plus rendre enfance, toucher à ces merveilles que sont les Préludes de Claude Debussy fut un cas de conscience. Le séduisant quatuor avec flûte, avec son trio à cordes, permet à un orchestrateur de métier d'infin ies nuances et dégradés : quatre instruments virtuoses, souvent polyphoniques, aux nombreuses irisations de timbre... Cependant, nous n'avons aucun modèle chez Debussy lui-même d'un tel travail, sinon son Quatuor à cordes (très antérieur) et sa Sonate pour flûte, alto et... harpe ! Sans ajouter une harpe (qui possède l'étendue du piano), impossible d'imaginer La Cathédrale Engloutie ou La Terrasse des audiences du clair de lune ... les résonances graves du piano, si poétiques, quasi magiques, ne pourraient être traduites par quatre instruments non résonants. J'ai donc dû choisir peu de Préludes, ne voulant pas trahir Debussy. Après une écoute intérieure très exigeante, et en me permettant, à la rigueur, quelques brèves octaviations de l'extrême-grave du piano, je me suis limité à six, trois dans chaque livre: 1er livre : - Des Pas sur la neige (n° 6) - La Sérénade interrompue (n° 9) - Minstrels (n° 12) 2e livre: - Bruyères (n°5) - Hommage à Sir Pickwick PPMPC (n° 9) - Canope (n° 10) Très vite, j'ai compris que partir du son-piano était une erreur; il valait mieux imaginer le Debussy des années 1910 orchestrant ces pièces pour une grande formation (du type Ibéria ou Jeux), puis réduire pour un petit orchestre de quatre instruments. D'où l'emploi de batteries (même à la flûte), de trémolos, de doublures étranges pour simuler les timbres absents, créer des illusions de polyphonie, si prisées des orchestrateurs français. J'espère n'en avoir pas abusé; j'ai essayé de mettre dans ces transcriptions toute l'imagination - tous les sons improbables - que Debussy aurait lui-même recherchés.
