England enjoys a rich folk song tradition. Composers such as Cecil Sharp and Vaughan Williams rekindled an interest in this heritage at the beginning of the 20th century by arranging numerous songs, some of which were transcribed for the _x001F_first time. Glorioso was commissioned by, and is dedicated to, the ‘Siena Wind Orchestra’. The work opens after a short aleatoric intro, with an energetic and brassy ‘one tone fanfare’. The note F acts as an omnipresent note, and is also used as a bridge into the second, rather static movement. A noble sounding theme leads to an impressive climax, shortly followed by the spectacular and virtuoso finale, which is built on the musical elements that have been heard before. Stylistically, this sparkling finale is clearly influenced by Dmitri Shostakovich, hence the use of the famous signature used by the Russian Master: C D E flat B (or C flat). A glorious finish to a special workthat highlights various facets of the modern concert band. Glorioso werd geschreven in opdracht van en is opgedragen aan het Japanse Siena Wind Orchestra. This suite with a four-part instrumentation is comprised of three cheerful, imaginative movements: firstly Yellow Duck Shuffle, a bluesy, swinging section; next comes Purple Panda Polka, a lively, modern polka in which a funny dancing pair of pandas take centre stage; and finally the third movement entitled Pink Donkey Boogie is a gentle boogie-woogie. This work was written in 2005, prompted by the composer's determination that young members of junior, music school and conservatoire wind ensembles should not be limited to transcriptions for lack of original compositions, especially contemporary ones. The new devices used in the Little Suite are suitable for student players to try out. Indeed, they enjoy them - for instance, purring or whistling into the instrument. Each of the three-or-four-minute movements of this four-movement work can also be performed separately. The titles of the movements are the following: 1. In cheerful mood, 2. Song, 3. Joke, 4. March. This music in modern idiom, full ofinteresting new effects, offers young players an opportunity for enjoyable music-making together, and at the same time prepares them for playing more difficult contemporary works. Triglav(opus 72) is an original march for wind band from 1900, named after the highest peak of Slovenia. Symphonie Fantastique, composed by Hector Berlioz, is a symphony in five movements based upon Berlioz's own experiences of disappointment in love. Tohru Takahashi's arrangement fully exploits the capabilities of the concert band whilst staying true to the tonal colour and textures of the original. Movements include: Reveries - Passions, Un Bal, Scène aux champs, Marche au supplice and Songe d'une nuit de sabbat. Hector Berlioz was nogal teleurgesteld in de liefde. Met de nog steeds modern klinkende Symphonie Fantastique gaf hij hieraan uiting. Tohru Takahashi verwerkte de originele partituur voor deze transcriptie. Hij wil hiermee de mogelijkhedenvan een modern blaasorkest optimaal benutten, maar verliest daarbij de originele klankkleuren nooit uit het oog. De optionele solopartij voor de cornet verschijnt in het tweede deel.
