English Organist and composer Henry Smart was one of a family of accomplished musicians active in the 19th century. During his lifetime, Smart was widely considered to be one of the premiere composers in British history, but that popularity was not sustained in the years since his death. He is best known now for the hymn tune Regent Square which is sung to Angels From the Realms of Glory. This Organ Postlude In C reveals Smart to have been an accomplished composer with an excellent understanding of his instrument and undoubtedly of the musical tastes of his era.

The original organ piece by Alexandre Guilmant makes a great tour de force for brass and organ. Varied, whimsical, and celebratory, the arrangement puts the melody through various paces, including a brief fughetta. Ending, as it should, with a broad final statement of the melody completely intact, this would make a great finale or postlude. Duration: 4:00.
