The great Fantaisie Italienne is a piece composed by Eugène Bozza for Oboe and Piano. Quite difficult it requires some advanced skills to be executed perfectly. Starting Moderato it opens with a cadenza which includes some solo Oboe sections and continues with a short and lyrical melody. It closes on a nice rhythmic section in Allegro. Really nice to play and to listen to  Fantaisie Italienne would make for a fantastic demonstration of your skills and technical abilities during a recital and a concert. Eugène Bozza won different prizes atthe Conservatoire de Paris such as the First Prizes for the Violin conducting and composition as well as the Grand Prix de Rome. He composed several operas chamber works and ballets among others.

Jacques Ibert (1890-1962) studied at the Paris Conservatoire before embarking upon a successful composing career. The composer wrote for a variety of instrumentations and his works remain popular to this day  Escales for Oboe and Piano being no exception. Composed in 1922  Escales is suitable for advanced level oboists. Ibert was a unique composer who did not associate himself with any particular style. His music is generally lighthearted often reflecting the composer's wit and humour. Containing a variety of musical aspects and techniques and being significantly very rhythmic Ibert's Escales is an exciting addition to the advanced Oboe repertoire.

Carl Nielsen's Fantasy Pieces Op.2 are 2 contrasting pieces for the advancing oboist. The piece begins with a lyrical Romanze and concludes with a rhythmic and punchy Humoresque.For Oboe with Piano accompaniment. The Oboe part is also included on a separate insert.

Japanese born Makoto Shinohara was born in 1931. He studied at the Tokyo University of Arts before moving to the Paris Conservatoire. His passion is for electronic music, but his catalogue is varied and includes the sublime Obsession for Oboe and Piano. Composed in 1960, Shinohara had just completed his studies at the Paris Conservatoire under Olivier Messiaen and other experimental composers. Obsession exploits the Oboe and Piano through riveting uses of tonality, rhythm, dynamics, tempo, articulation and shared melody. For all advanced oboists seeking to include a challenging yet excitingly unique contemporary work in their repertoire, Shinohara's Obsession suitably fits the bill!

These four Oboe Sonatas which were originally written by Handel for the treble (or today's alto) Recorder and figured bass are eminently suitable for the Oboe. They have been transposed a fourth lower for practicality and comfort. The four sonatas can also be performed with equal effectiveness by the tenor or the soprano Recorder. Herbert Howells' Sonata For Oboe And Piano. Composed in 1942. Edited by Peter Dickinson and Sarah Francis. Duration c. 18 minutes. This sonata was given its world premiere by Francis and Dickinson at the Cheltenham International Festival on July 9 1984.

Raymond Parfrey has written for Choir Piano Organ and String Orchestra though he feels happiest when writing for wind instruments. Among his more popular works aer Travel Without Tears and A Variety Of Moods both ideal for the developing Oboe player.

Sir Edward Elgar was born in Worcester in 1857. Until the outstanding success of the 'Enigma' Variations in 1899 he was considered a 'provincial' composer - and a largely self taught one at that.In the earlier part of Elgar's career as a composer he wrote several short pieces which became very popular indeed. Chanson de Matin is one such the second of a pair (the other being Chanson de Nuit) which carried his name far and wide before his larger orchestra works appeared. It was published in several versions at once: for string orchestra for small orchestra for violin and piano and so on - so it is almost impossible to say with any degree of certainty which was theoriginal version. This arrangement makes a useful addition to the repertoire for oboe.
